I would have probably been more impressed by this story if I hadn’t read The Global Exam and Kaleidoscope of Death before it. The characters seemed so unbeatable I didn’t really worry for their well-being throughout the whole book, and while some of the survival games were pretty cool, they didn’t scare me. That being said, I did start reading it because the premise was a funny twist on the survival games genre, the main plot was pretty solid, and it was entertaining enough to keep me going 😁
Loved the start & middle of this novel. The whole idea of the poverty scale & Xiao Lan being mocked for his lack of coin was fab. I dont like reading fight scenes because they drag on and boy does the author like giving us them. Also none of the instances are that memorable to me, other than the supermarket one. After having a refresh, I enjoyed Kriv Institute too but i keep forgetting about it.
The explanation for the 'Advent' world made sense and checked out.Loved how even XL's dad acknowledged how he was a shitty father but owned it. Really appreciated how everyone's power had the ability to be super OP the more they levelled it up. I liked the guy who's power is to create a real life version of his imaginary friend based on his on physique, respect for Wang Taidi who's power relates to money, Wang Ke who gets stronger the more damage is done to him, the guy who has to do a workout set to activate power-ups, the rich fella who doesn't take damage from actions/objects that he knows how they work, the Gamer who controls an action figure to do the fighting for him. Also respect for the knife that randomly inflicts the stabbed person with a random thing, like poison and chocolate.
The extra chapters are a fun little taster into different stories with the main cast: life as pets, movie stars, haunted house AU, and focus on some of the side characters. Short enough to be sweet.
Amidst all the other novels in the sub-genre of unlimited flow, I can't really say that this one stands out. But, what I can say is that it was funny, light-hearted and extremely enjoyable.
For example, in extremely dangerous situations Xiao Lan (MC) would suddenly think about the most hilarious things, and even though this takes you out of the thrilling predicament he's faced with, it actually fits with the comedic undertones running throughout this entire web novel and adds more joy to your (or at least my) reading experience.
Also, this was the first time I've read about a ML willing to act cute and be a literal cat for the the MC and get jealous of another cat lol, +1 for Luo.
The Gary Stu-ness of this web novel doesn't hinder the delight I had while reading this, and even though I'll probably forget about this in a month or two, I'm willing to recommend this to anyone who just wants to brighten up their day.
This was a really good read. The idea of using a poverty meter to clear through survival games isn't a method I've heard before, so I was pleasantly surprised to find this novel and the fact it kept its promise is a big satisfaction for me.
I found all the main cast members easy to love. And the death games were honestly a 10/10 for me. The romance? At first I was a little put out by the "Sir" but by the end I was really fond of these two together so that's another 10/10 for me. I was hoping for Wang Ke to be 2nd male lead ngl lol but i loved his dynamics with his brother as well as the representation of how exactly trauma changes people.
disappointing. had fun at first but it’s honestly incredibly repetitive. not a bad novel just not something i really enjoyed. felt like the shein version of teio. kinda like if teio was mixed with kod. i don’t kno the longer it went on the more i compared it to both and the more i was disappointed.
