Lot 743, a rare gem worth the money to any collector. Blue eyes, red hair. A genetic combination that’s nearly one of a kind. One in a million. Guaranteed fertile and able to bare children. The bidding will start at 100 thousand.
Sold off to the Ellington household for a record amount of money, lot 743 is collected by her new Master and taken from the labor colonies all the way to Diamond Woods estates. Where the upper class reigns supreme. Chosen specifically for her trendy genetics to ensure the best looking baby (and boasting rights) to Commander Avery, she begins her journey into her new life as a breeder. Knowing she has no choice but to accept her new position she must find a way to survive, escape, or die trying.
It isn’t long before she is approached by one of the leaders of the resistance. A man named Keller. After noticing lot 743’s uncanny ability to read books (something which is a death sentence for slaves) he mistakenly identifies her as someone who is part of the resistance. That she has a name. Her name is Cordelia. Having no knowledge that a revolution is brewing, Cordelia now has to make a choice. Fight back against the system or remain complacent in her own demise.
The struggle with Avery is real when she finds he’s hiding a dark past. He’s been stripped of his rank for betraying The Leader. A puritanical dictator who rules over the working class and the elites with very specific rules and guidelines. Avery is only surviving on his family name and second chances as he was caught in a romance with the previous purchased breeder and was ordered to execute her by his own hand to prove he was not part of the resistance himself. Full of self loathing and struggling to come to grips with his cowardly mistake, he is bitter and resentful and only knows how to take it out on Cordelia. The only problem is that as bad as Avery treats her...his wife is even worse.
When faced with the decision of a poison dinner and who should ultimately receive the meal, Cordelia makes the bold decision to spare Avery’s life despite his abuse and send his wife to her grave. This stunning and merciful act, going against even the wishes of the resistance itself, sets Avery on the right path. Together, he and Cordelia join forces in order to take down the leader, collapse the elites, and prop Avery back to power. Ushering in a completely new world order of peace, harmony, and equality among men.
This book completely took me by surprise — in the best way possible. I had the pleasure of chatting with the author, who is such a lovely person, and promised I’d give her book a read. I’m so glad I did! I absolutely loved it.
It gave me The Handmaid’s Tale vibes, but with its own unique twist — and a generous dose of spice, which is definitely right up my street. As the story progressed, it started to feel a bit like The Hunger Games, and I was hooked from start to finish.
I especially loved the relationship between Avery and Cordelia; their connection felt so genuine and compelling. There’s one part I wish we’d seen more of — those two weeks when Cordelia was unconscious. I would have loved an Avery POV there! Emery’s character was another standout for me, and I really hope we get to explore more of his story in future books.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this read and have already recommended it to several of my book friends. Well done, Nadia — I can’t wait to see what comes next!
I really enjoyed this novel by an independent author.
The premis has a bit of a The Handmaid's Tale feel to it, with the dystopian world and the infertility. Cordelia is a breeder, similar to the Handmaids. But the story stands completely on its own, despite its similarities. I really really enjoyed the progression of Avery's character from spoiled and rich to really coming to understand the life of those around him a bit more fully. The romance between Cordelia and Avery is slow building, but I love them as a team. Cordelia really helps him to see things more clearly In certain situations. Also, lots of pretty intense and sexy scenes. Some errors but they don't take away from the story. Would definitely recommend
As part of my celebration of IndieApril, I have been exploring different genres and authors.
I didn't know what to expect of this erotic dystopinan romance, but the concept grabbed hold of me in the first few pages. While there is a fair share of erotica in this story, it is truly a story, complete with mystery and characters and drama unrelated to the sexy elements. One you can immerse in and enjoy for the novel itself as well as the healthy dose of sex. The characters' grow in a dual path and take the novel in a far different direction than I imagined.
This book is definitely worth a read, and I wholly recommend it!
It's like Fifty Shades Of Gray meets the Hunger Games. Not a bad union to come up with for a writer. The erotica at the beginning kind of shocked me since it was graphic, but the story turned out to be more than that. A decent read.
