Meghan Rhine is a product of the generation who sent countless letters to the Hogwarts Admissions Office, fell in love with sparkly vampires, jumped onto dauntless trains, and volunteered as tribute. She now resides deep in the bayous of Louisiana, where she reigns as queen of the wild things (two adorable little wild things). There with her husband and two sons, Meghan lives her life fueled by tea and sarcastic humor, and one day hopes to work for the secret part of the government in charge of alien interactions. First off, this book has such a lovely cover. It's actually one of my favorites. Of Land and Air. by Meghan Rhine filled with deep word building and fascinating characters. Rachel, the main female lead, goes through so much growing and morphing from a high school student to a warrior. Considering this is Rhine's debut novel and the first in the series, I'm really looking forward to the next book! Recommended read!

Meghan Rhine has nailed it with her first book . Look at that amazing cover it is fantastic it definitely makes you stop just to look at it and when you do and you read the blurb you are hitting the buy now button and in doing so you will be swept away in a story you just can't put down because when you start it will be just one more chapter just one more chapter and loss of sleep is the result but it is so worth it . The main characters are fleshed out perfectly and the growth of Rachel is well laid out and as the story moves along before you know it you are vested in here and you worry about choices being made and the outcomes that go with them and that is the sign of a great writer when you care about what happens to a character and Meghan is definitely a great writer . The world building is excellent and you feel as if you are there So do yourself a favor stop here and go buy this book and then come leave a review only takes a few minutes and helps author's more than you know . So go buy it , read it , love it , review it . This was an easy 5 star read . Loved it .
Meghan Rhine has done a great job, in this debut novel, of world-building and creating strong, unique characters. Rhine employs creative methods to keep the reader connected to all the characters, even when certain characters aren’t present (such as Anthony’s letters, which punctuate the occasional chapters).
This book would have still been a fascinating read if it had just been about the primary plot: Rachel’s abduction and the subsequent events and conflicts, all wrapped in a beautiful “other-world”. However, the subplot of Rachel being torn between her deep desire for adventure and her loyalty and love for her home, family, and friends rounded this novel out in a way that took it from “good” to “great”.
The story really picks up and becomes a page-turner about a third of the way through, once you start to see more of Ourania than just the military base. Rhine skillfully keeps the reader invested by alternating at just the right times between serious dialogue, witty banter, action-packed scenes, and beautifully written descriptive scenes. I’m looking forward to seeing Rhine’s development and growth as an author throughout her next books, which I will be waiting eagerly for!
Fans of Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward series and Veronica Roth’s Divergent trilogy would find this book similarly enthralling.

The rather shy Rachel Collins begs for adventure in an otherwise mundane town. However, the adventure she longs for definitely doesn't include being kidnapped from her world to serve as the tipping point in a war on another planet.
This book ticks a lot of tropes in fantasy that I absolutely love: elemental magic, enemies to lovers romance, and strong female characters. I thought Rachel's both inner and outer conflicts in this book were genuine reactions for a girl truly out of her world. The character relationships were fun and the development between Rachel and Cornelius was incredibly heartwarming.
However, the plot in the first half of the book was a bit repetitive. I would've also liked to see more worldbuilding outside of the military base since the little tastes we received toward the latter half of the book were so imaginative and colorful. Those flaws, though, make way for a whirlwind of action in the climax, full of difficult choices, deception, and questioning what exactly is right or wrong. The cliffhanger at the end made me audibly gasp, and I will absolutely follow the series to see how it progresses.
Fans of the Shatter Me series will absolutely fall head over heels for Rachel's story. I look forward to what the author has in store!

For a book where 80% of it takes place inside a military base, SO MUCH HAPPENS! Seriously, Rachel's journey from a quiet, nervous high school senior into a physically transformed warrior is just amazing to watch. Everything is told from her point of view except a handful of chapters that are letters Antony writes to her while she's gone (no spoilers).
Antony's words are so wonderful and they evolve over the course of the book as Rachel's transition continues and her relationships build with those around her. Neil's true character comes out slowly but surely with Zara there as the immediate new-best-friend. Xander is such a great character to help introduce the good in Neil, too.
The complex lives of those in this new dimension feel real and ultimate decisions for where people stand in the end make so much sense for their characters even if some are a bit heartbreaking - it felt real.
Excellent read. It's a fast-paced work featuring melodrama that increases as you follow budding adventurist Rachel Collins on an unfortunate adventure. Rhine really pulls the "Be careful what you wish for card" here, and she doesn't stop until she reaches that climax.
It's full of interesting world-building featuring even better characters. This action-packed read takes Rachel Collins into a world at war, where its inhabitants are dubbed Elementals. Each of whom have the ability to control the four classical elements.
While I found the plotline predictable, the action picks up and never stops. Coupled with an epic cast of characters, twists, and turns, throughout, plus a false sense of security, Of Land and Air is a thrill ride comprising one of the deepest diamonds in the Amazon rough.
If you're a fan of elemental magic, science fiction, and contemporary fantasy, Of Land and Air is a must-read. I can't wait to read more from this author and I look forward to the sequel.
I really enjoyed the world-building in this book and was intrigued from the start. The story develops carefully over time and builds anticipation throughout. Love the setting and found this an interesting contrast to the one I've usually read with this type of story (I hope that makes sense - I don't want to give anything away!) I struggled to put it down and enjoyed reading about the love triangle teased throughout the book. There is also a great undertone of far more yet to be discovered, which keeps the reader guessing and needing to read more. I hope there are more books to this series with these characters in it, as I am now desperate to know what happens next!

My favorite trope is being transported to another world in a fantasy series. Meghan Rhine does a great job of world-building and dealing with the repercussions back at home which is normally isn't covered in novels. An exciting start to what will hopefully be a great series.

I devoured this book, page by page, wanting to know how the story will end. I loved visualizing this intriguing world, which was described with great detail! Now, I'm ready to purchase the next book to know what the future holds for Rachel! Buy this book, you won't be disappointed.
I LOVED the book cover! It's absolutely fascinating. I just love how her hair flows. I think the author did a great job with the world-building, especially since it is a debut novel. I love the pacing of the story and the character development was also thoughtfully done. I also love a good love triangle.

On a rating of 1 to 10, I give this a rating of 11. it was beautifully written with good characters and an original story line. Gripping from the first page.
This series promises to be a really good YA portal fantasy. The world building for Ourania is really interesting, including sentient plants that are really cool. The idea of everyone living there being some kind of elemental was fun. There is a lot of heartbreak felt for Rachel for her situation while the story behind the war and it's results is pretty devastating. There are no easy choices for her. The ending left me anxious for the next installment.
