Note: The publisher (Maverick) contacted and provided me with book two to book four for this review, but all opinions stated are my own honest thoughts.

Summary:
Wolf’s amulet has been taken by Rain, a boy who bullied Wolf, tried to kill him and inadvertently poisoned his own father. If that wasn’t bad enough, Rain proceeded to impersonate Wolf and pretended to be part of an ancient prophecy. Determined to get the amulet back, Wolf becomes desperate for ill thought-out revenge, following Rain to a cursed island at the centre of the world. How will he stop his intense thoughts of revenge before he does something he will regret? Is he worthy of retrieving his amulet after all, or have the good spirits deserted him?

The Specifics of the Edition:
I read the standard paperback edition, but it is also available in digital and audio form.

My Thoughts:
In my opinion, The Mysterious Island is the best book of the series yet! It is about the same length as the previous book (in this case, 155 pages), but the pace is significantly faster. The character arcs of Rain and Wolf were compellingly written. It was particularly interesting to see that though Wolf was briefly lost to his anger, he remained the strong character we have come to love and is concerned by his own actions in relation to bad spirits and tries to make amends for this. I think this is something everything can relate to, we don’t always act in a ‘perfect’ way, it teaches children they can be angry, but they are not a bad person and, they can make things right. You have to act from within and you have the ability to choose what to do. The scene where Wolf saved children from the volcano was incredibly compulsive reading!

Cracking little Stone Age saga!

Saviour Pirotta has written a series that can be used in different ways through most of primary. Historically faithful but using creative license to craft a story that really immerses young readers in a prehistoric atmosphere. Looking forward to book 4!
