I felt those people, everyday folk with fairly normal lives. Edwin what have you been up to!? Fuck knows what happened at the end though?! The story that got to me the most was the father talking to his children, god that floored me 😕 and the rest of it just triggered my ptsd from my one and only (I hope) Pontins adventure. Camber Sands. Never again. A sess pool of humanity, quite literally. Everyone out the pool quick!! someone's shat!! there was more but I'll save it, I might write a book lol

Esgob Annwyl! SEAGULLS is Stevens’ debut novel, a sordid glimpse of an imagined North Walean life, depressing and disgusting but somehow magical, and a version of Pontins quite unfamiliar to that place you may have visited as a child. While I was reading I picked a scab on my ear until it bled and got blood on page 74. It seemed quite fitting. Bumming, wrestling, circumcision, pubey chips, Crosby, Stills, and Nash – it really has it all. Stevens’ capacity for evocative description and dreamlike scene-setting is impeccable. By the end, I was part-aroused, part-nauseated, part-wistful, part-drunk with excitement for his next work. Stevens is my favourite scumbag angel, his first book a perfect flash of his gross, rotting, and beautiful head, and I hope that his hilarious and vivid voice will soon be in your head, too.

I devoured this in a day & immediately set about reading it again. One of the most enjoyable, funny, filthy reads, 10/10, can’t recommend enough

Disturbing , dark, weird, funny, captivating and enthralling. The words glide off the page into your soul. At the end of the book I had no idea what had happened but I felt I knew each character like they were my bestfriend, sister, mother, partner.... a very good read indeed.
