The story revolves around five seemingly random strangers. Jamilah,
Saengdao, Raziel, Alex and Maya go to sleep one day, then wake up in a dream where they meet each other.
In their heads, these strangers from different parts of the world are faced with their own dreams and their own nightmares.
Five random strangers. Forced to work together to fight themselves.
It just so happens that none of it is random at all.

ADELIA KHALID, Adelia Binti Khalid believes in the power of representation and uniting the world through creativity and art.

Growing up, she would be seen with a book wherever she went. Her love for books and reading moved her to start writing her own stories. Eventually, she wrote her debut novel at 17, the #1 MPH Bestselling, All Minds Are Broken. She is currently pursuing her Degree in English Literature.

When she's not churning out research essays or polishing on her marketing skills, she is writing plays for the stage and her next novel.

The novel revolves around the lives of 5 individuals. Each from different parts of the world. Each has their own baggages and obviously from different backgrounds.

But they are all somewhat connected.

The characters I like are Jamilah & Raziel. They remind me of myself. Jamilah lost someone she loves and Raziel is ‘indisposed’ ( my late father like to use this word 😅 and some phrases like fashionably bankcrupt . That is my late father. A man who had so many words and phrases that just hit you . Al Fatihah)

It has been quite some time since I read a sci-fi. I think the last book was Prey by John Michael Crichton. Oh dear that was a long time ago. I loved the book so much.

Since this book has 5 main characters, I had to write notes. Yup, this is what I would normally do because I do not what to leave or forget any details about each character.

I get to explore each character‘s subconscious mind. But sometimes I do find it a bit confusing. When is it reality and when is it a dream. This makes the novel more interesting.
I bet if I were to reread it in the future, my review would be different.

This type of blurred lines between reality and a dream might not be suitable for those who wants to read a straight forward type of novel.

This is a book that needs to be reread to be appreciated more.

Just how, how in the world that the author gets the idea to make this book? The concept made me speechless and still out of words right now. I can't have people ask me " oh what is this book about? " and I just ghost them BECAUSE I CANT EXPLAIN.

Pray for me I'll try to explain just a bit. So, All Minds Are Broken follows five different characters with five different stories. We have Maya, Jamilah, Saengdao, Alex and Raziel. Somehow, these special people met in a same dream over and over again with weird events happening and try to find an explanation for it while they learn each others' story. Is it working? Or should I just quit explaining?

I. LOVE. THIS. BOOK. Fight me, but I love this book no matter what! ♥ The development of the characters deserves an applause! I can feel and see these people getting stronger and stronger each page. I absolutely into the story with the writing style. It is very easy and understandable and includes some unfamiliar verbs, which is great to add to your vocabs knowledge.

This book follows each of the characters point of view for one chapter. So you get to experience how that character himself acts like. Every one of them are different, with the use of words and stuff. And that is something that I like about it, becasue reader gets to know what's up before the other characters do. We get to know the inside of the pov, if that sum it up.

Believe me ot not, I got a new favourite person in hereee! Raziel Weber, yas, him. Okayy he's just so sweet and polite and WE STAN GOOD MEN . He's a cinnamon roll, can't deny it. He made me go uwuwuwuwu staph itt, if you know what I mean. My soft mode switched on and AAAAAAAAA. Others are good too, but you know, I kind of play favourite here 💅 sorry y'all.

I would reccomend this to any reader. Any reader would be fine reading this. A beginner, yes. A fantasy reader, yes. A thriller reader, yes. You who are reading this, WHAT ARE U WAITING FOR? PICK UP THE DAMN BOOK!

A very different concept than what I have been reading so far, so I was really excited to start this book.

Maybe because my mind is too fixed on the fact that this book is a psychological thriller - even though it reminds me of a series called Sense8 - that it's hard for me to get into the story at first. It's not until after chapter 17 that I finally picked up the pace and anticipated the ending. I must say, I really love the ending!

I could ignore the typos and everything else but the incomplete sentences put me off every single time. It's not that I cannot forgive that little error in editing, but it feels like I have missed more of what the author intended to tell the readers.

All in all, I enjoyed this book!

All minds are broken, my darling little illusion. It only differs how much.

This book is about a band of kids trying to figure out what is happening to them as they keep being stuck in peculiar dreams, trying to decipher which is real and which is illusion.

List of people who would appreciate this book: Plot-based readers. Haruki Murakami fans, maybe.
But unfortunately, I'm not in the list. As much as I want to be, because this is a local author and I want to like it so much. But in the end, I am a reader and how I experience a book is personal to me. And I am very honest in my reviews.

Adelia, if you're reading this, know that it's not you, it's me. I will still recommend this book because like I said, my reviews are personal.

Things I like about the book: The concept. I like how convincingly psychotic Luna is in the book, I felt intense hate for her which means the character is well-written. For a debut novel written by someone so young, the vocab used and the way Adelia writes is so smooth and fluid. You can tell that she reads a lot just by reading her writings. I also love the constant references to other books (Sense and Sensibility) and Jamilah's character as a Muslim rep. I love how there is a deep-dive on what dreams really mean and how little details like Maya's name are paid attention to.

Okay, here comes my honest thoughts:
I felt like the book had so much potential but the problem was, I was confused from the beginning. There were too many characters introduced all at once and too few details about them for me to start latching on so it felt like I was being thrown with words instead of a story. You can tell by this paragraph that I am a very character-based character so this might not bother plot-based readers at all because the plot is fine.

Also, the descriptions for the settings are very vague. I had a very hard time differentiating whether we were in the lab, in the dream or somewhere else. It all felt like the same place to me so I spent the majority of the book being lost.

note:All in all, it is a good book and I am proud of Adelia for publishing her first book. I will continue to support her and promote the heck out of her because this book is good, okay!!! It's just a loss that it's not for me. Do take my review with a grain of salt and pick up this book if you want to.

i hate that i rated this low, the idea for the plot was astounding. and i think it had great potential

for first, the book had a lot of spelling errors, missing lines, duplicated lines and that bothered me, id have to stop mid sentence to understand what the author meant.

i dont think the ending was very satisfactory, i found myself lost when they said who had been killed, so many people and i was just left confused. we never got an answer for who the person in the pet store was. i felt lost at the ending and i wished there was more or just more answers.

one last thing, in dreams u cant really see ur reflections, or count ur fingers, or see the time, and this book the author had them happen, and while thats not a problem because this is fiction, it bugged me a little bit as a person who likes researching dreams ( i did not rate the book any lower because of this i just thought its worth mentioning )

edit again : reread this book, this book def gets better with each read. what i missed last time and was confused on, i more understood now. i think i didnt pick this up in the first read but i love how jamilah is so unapologetically muslim. the author didnt to try to cover up her religion and i think thats really beutiful and not see too often. as a muslim thats great and happy for the representation.

💫 Let me tell you that I was ASTRAL PROJECTING while reading this book! YASSS FOR ASTRAL PROJECTION! Can I be in that scene please?
💫 Such good writing, I LOVE IT! Very young adult & beginner friendly in terms of writing. Pick it up! BUT there are some missing sentences, misspellings and incomplete sentences that spoiled my mood of reading, must've been a proofreading error.
💫 Let's talk about storyline. It starts slow at first, like any thriller I read so far & that is fine by me. And the format of the story is very interesting! It was divided into 3 parts, very interesting & I really enjoyed the format. So if you don't like a slow-paced story, I don't recommend. Hun, the plot twist is so GOOD! And the ending is a nice ending, I really enjoyed it so much!
💫Character development time! I LOVE ALL OF THEM! How it develops in each part was super fun to read and interesting!
💫 This book is now my favourite comfort read 🥰🥰🥰 I finished this book in 5 days & I would definitely pick this up again if I feel like in a reading slump or a quick read.
💫 The art pieces included in the book are so gorgeous! I love it, the art represents the 5 characters portrayed in the story.

I love the thriller with sci-fi concept. It a brilliant storyline and really amazed me.

I adore her style of writing, how she choice the words to build a sentences. Its easy to read and hard to put down! Im so tempted to know what the ending😆 The ending is satisfied *chef kisses*👩‍🍳

This book have some misspelling and 2/3 incomplete sentences which make me feel '🙃' but I can easily mood on hahaha sokay for me.

Oh yeah, All Minds Are Broken have multi POV and im okay with that (all things are sokay for me hahahha im not very picky person la..kot)

Also, firstly I didnt notice this book contain some art. The art of 5 characters.

All Minds Are Broken is a story about a group of people who were connected through interweaving dreams. Truth be told, Adelia's lyrical and amazing writing saved me from rating it lower because I might have just given up on this story.

There are so many typos, sentences left hanging, grammatical errors and even missing words. I don't know if it's just my copy but it really affected my reading progress. I tried to ignore it but it's just not possible.

The story is pretty interesting and it'll make you eager to find out more. The characters are from all over the world who experience more or less the same dream, trying to figure out what exactly is happening to them.

If the book were edited and had a better result then I may not dislike it so much. This was a book that I was absolutely excited to pick up but unfortunately I have no choice but to feel utterly disappointed.

My emotions went on a roller coaster ride with this book. The different characters were introduced in such beautiful manner and the author managed to pour out words that made me imagine the characters accordingly. There was a moment where I got goosebumps but I forgot to jot it down cause I was too immersed and wanted to see the end of it.

Oh, I just found out that this book was written by a talented Malaysian, 18 year old. Yeah. I googled the author after finishing the book. I love to see more from her!

To begin with, Adelia really did a great job in her debut novel. She manage to explicate the relationship between the 5 characters in her story so well that I was amazed with her talent all together. I may be bias as she was a student of mine but I know I was proudly reading the book. I hope she will continue writing and come up with a sequel maybe. 🌹 Good luck.

This book is about five different characters that accidently met in a dream. They need to figure out what is going on. I love all the characters because its combine from different races.

You should definitely pick up this book.

Sejujurnya aku beli sebab ada nama watak Jamilah. Tanpa melihat isi, aku terus beli. Kemudian barulah aku tahu ini novel berbahasa Inggeris.

Selesai juga membacanya. Setiap bab menggunakan sudut pandang watak.

Jarang aku membaca novel berbahasa Inggeris namun selesai membacanya sehari.

Interesting concept.. Every chapter has it's own POV. The romance, the friendship—it will make us blush. There's a whole lot of personalities to keep in mind as I was reading. There're some terms that I don't know and I educate myself with it like 'locked in syndrome, aphantasia' familiar yet we sometimes forget. Yea great concept.
As I read, I found myself curious and I don't understand the ending. But the sentimental values explaining about life really hits me.
I also cannot ignore the fact that I found 8 errors in the books (typos, incomplete sentences) need correction tbh
Good theme, good words chosen, emotionally grabbing. 3.4 🌟
