What's the point of having magical powers if she can't use them to smite her enemies?
Dru Collins refuses to be a sacrifice, which is why she's staying in the human world until further notice. The dryad realm offers nothing but an arranged marriage and a life-sucking job, literally. Her all-but-useless magic will call her back one day, but until then, she'll fight to find a different path, princess or not. When threats from her royal mother and an incompetent assassin start to pile up, Dru recruits the one man she probably shouldn't trust—a sexy shifter bounty-hunter who intends to bring her home.
Oren Ashir has new orders from the clan: find the dryad, retrieve the traitor, return to the elders. Except the traitor has knowledge about the disappearance of his parents, and the dryad is a feisty beauty with a mission of her own. Dru is the key to accessing the dryad realm, but pursuing the traitor puts her in danger. He'll have to make a choice: find the answers to his past or protect the woman he wants for his future.
Tied together on a complicated mission, Oren and Dru discover secrets hidden by friends and enemies alike. With time ticking down until Dru has to return home, will they learn to trust themselves and each other before it's too late?
Rebellious Magic is a full-length paranormal romance novel featuring fated mates, a shifter with a protector complex, and a dryad princess who refuses to do anything that she's told.
Another magical mystery tour from Nicole Hall. This author brings romance, humour and mysteries together into neat packages and will hopefully never run out of side characters. Each of the books in the series could be read separately as each is about a different couple, however they are much better read in order so you can be introduced to each main character in a previous book/s and understand an underlying plot that keeps popping up. Dru and Oren have been minor characters in previous stories, though not together or knowing of each other. Dru has been intriguing in the last couple of books and I was happy to find 1 with her as a central character. Her compassion and 'understanding' of magic has been alluded to and now we know why - A royal dryad princess! This story brings in features on arranged marriages that are not wanted by at one of the 'betrothed'. Add mystery in the form of magic and the stage is set. The whole idea of the dryad queen's life force being sucked out for the good of the others sounds a horrific use of magic. Oren starts as a minor character that builds up to a major character torn between his growing feelings for Dru and his need to discover the past of his 'god' parents. Which part will win! Dryads have only had minor roles in the series thus far and it is exciting to see the part they play in the magical world. The romance is strong but not to the exclusion of the story, though at times I did want to slap both & say wake up! A good entertaining fun read.
Nicole Hall’s “Rebellious Magic” is the fifth book in her paranormal romance “Modern Magic” series, that features fates mates, and a vast multitude of supernaturals, from relatively innocuous fairies, to dangerous Dark Fae, with shifters, werewolves, zombie bunnies, magic llamas in between.
“Rebellious Magic” main character, Dru Collins, is a strong royal dryad female, who does not want to comply with an arranged marriage and decides to hide in the human realm to avoid her destiny. Unfortunately, her mother would not accept her decision and assigns Oren Ashir to bring her home, the very same Oren, Dru recruits as her own bodyguard. United in the pursuit of a traitor to the realm, their uneasy relationship grows, while Oren tries to make up his mind between acknowledge the bounty and bring Dru back home or keep protecting her and imaging a future together.
“Rebellious Magic” is a fast-paced romantic adventure with humor in spades and the right dose of mystery to keep the plot going. It’s a light lecture, joyful interesting with entertaining and credible characters. Great fun.
Dryads, Dragons, near-death experiences, a hunky hero and a strong female protagonist. What’s not to love?
Dru and Oren are a great couple and their adventure through woods, New York and the dryad homeland is a true page-turner. I couldn’t get enough of the magic, the different twists and the creatures introduced.
And the Tree…! So much fun to read and to explore this world.
This well-written, entertaining, and engaging storyline has magic, paranormal characters, mystery, twists, fated mates, and an arranged marriage. The likable main characters are strong, independent, have a mission to complete, and a possible HEA. I liked this book. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
I enjoy Nicole's writing style.. her persona seems to come thru in the life of Dru the female protagonist. This 5th book in the series keeps your interest and provides a break from the realities of life. Imagine if this magical world really did exist hidden such that normal humans cannot perceive these exciting mysteries.
Yet another AMAZING book from Nicole! I really loved the two main characters, Dru and Oren, in this story! Dru is such a badass female lead all alone but adding sexy bounty hunter Oren into the mix is just perfect! There was so many great banter between the two and their journey together just gave you all the feels! Looking forward to her next book!
I love the strong female lead in this book along with the male lead, it makes an interesting and mysterious twist in a world of arranged marriages and women who defy those bonds while romance blossoms on the side. A very intriguing and engaging book.
I love that this book included another magical species so attuned with nature. What an awesome superpower. I loved the chaos and irreverence that is Dru and the steadfastness that is Oren.
