Curse of Christmas
A Collection of Paranormal Holiday Stories
Nov 2020, 916 pages
Paranormal Holiday Fiction
Book Bub
⭐⭐⭐⭐

I loved the cover art. It’s probably why I made the decision to buy the book in fact, since I don’t usually buy many holiday books, especially anthologies. But this cover is so dramatic, it caught my eye and I had to buy it.

Nine hundred and sixteen pages. It took a while to read all these stories. Some of them were regular short stories that almost could have been novellas and some of them weren’t much more than a could of pages. Really. And the characters and subject matter were just as widely spread. There were shapeshifters of all varieties, witches, ghosts, vampires, zombies, and something else I’m sure I’ve forgotten. Some of these were parts of a series and some were standalones. The quality of the writing varied just as much as well. The one thing they all had in common was the need for an editor. Does everyone decide at the last minute to write a holiday tale and just rush it through the process skipping the editing step?

There were some good stories in this collection, but one that really stood out in my mind was a wedding ceremony. If I were getting married, I’d seriously considering using the wording of this ceremony for mine. A Rueful Equinox by Stacey Jaine McIntosh had the most beautiful wording for a marriage ceremony, the most meaningful words. And a simple, beautiful symbolic ceremony done with cords around the couple’s wrists with a knot tied at each step of the vows. Their vows were lead by Merlin, but I’m sure they would be just as magical lead by a minister or other significant person.

Another really good story was A Very Changeling Christmas by Samantha Bell. This was very sweet with four young people who try to create a special Christmas feeling for one of their own who has never had a family Christmas morning. And A Haunting for Christmas by Tricia Schneider brings a pair back together after the pain of a husband/brother’s loss has left them both needing someone to love. These are just a few of the stories that stand out for me from this collection. Yes, there were some duds, but I’m not going to point those out. Let’s focus on the good stuff. It far outweighs the other. Recommended.

This review is based on: Cursed by Christmas, Dynasty of Blood Saga: A Christmas Story by Stephany Wallace

Such a fun Christmas story filled with vampires, witches, and one amazingly sweet baby gargoyle. After reading this gem I'm definitely going to check out the DYNASTY OF BLOOD series its from. I was happily surprised to learn one didn't necessarily need to have read the books prior to this novella. Suffice to say family is the theme of this super quick and enjoyable read. Whether by blood or choice, family is the heart of.our lives. This year more than most, this book resonated with me for the love these characters had for their family.

As with most collections, some of the stories I liked, some I didn’t. Overall, it was a pretty good book.

Free on Amazon. Wildly uneven in quality & length, some stories were clearly Easter eggs for readers familiar with the related series (not I, in any case). A few were quite good. A few were terrible.

Awesome!

This is a great read for anyone looking for something for a wonderful, quick read. D.C Gambel’s Mistletoe and Demons has action, romance and a badass heroine that’s not afraid to do whatever it takes to protect the ones she loves. Gabby is not damsel in distress, she will hurt you and do it with a smile on her face if you mess with her. Also, can we talk about Sebastian for a minute? Yum! I just love him. I’m looking forward to more in this series!

Delightful

What a delightful read this was. Short stories or long ones, all were centered on Christmas. You really should read this. So enjoyable.

Part 1: Not a fan of the first story. I'd never heard of the author before but this book doesn't seem to be a stand alone so I was a bit lost. It also didn't entice me enough to read more books in the series or by the author.

Part 2: The second story was good. I might read the rest of the series. Can be read as a stand alone.

Part 3: Not sure about the third book. It's shaping up to be a western and, while I like the occasional movie, I don't really like it in books.
Made it to chapter 4 out of 12. Had to drop it there. I just couldn't read any further.

Part 4: Cute. Not much to it.

Part 5: It's like Charlie Davidson meets Supernatural. Not bad but just ok. The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger, which isn't the best considering it's supposed to be a Christmas bonus.

Part 6: pretty good. The delivery of information was a little weird at times though.

Part 7: Vampires learn about Festivus. Done. Now you don't need to read it.

Part 8: BDSM Porn Without Plot.

Part 9: Cute little wedding story.

Part 10: Interesting start to a story. Feels more like an advertisement for a series than an Christmas special.

Part 11: Not sure if it's because I didn't read other books in the series but I found this kind of weird.

Part 12: Actually a pretty cute story. I enjoyed reading this one.

Part 13: The main character/ narrator is very pretentious. I made it 5 pages in but couldn't stand it so I had to abandon the story.

Part 14: Mostly porn with a little story towards the end. I found it better written than Part 8 and this more entertaining. A unique setup.

Part 15: A genuinely cute and heartwarming Christmas story

Part 16: Ok. Cute story. Kind of heartwarming.

Part 17: Interesting story. I felt there was a lot left unexplained at the end. I looked up the author because I would have read more in the series but this seems to be a stand alone or a series not yet released.

Part 18: An ok story. The series is probably decent based on ALL the references. I think they were supposed to provide content and character background but I found they distracted from the happenings in the story as random asides.

Part 19: The story so far seems good but I'm having trouble with the writing style. There are a lot of sentences starting with "and". I know this is perfectly acceptable; however, there are so many it seems lazy, especially if it happens 4 times on one page and 2 times in one paragraph. Finish your thought in one sentence or find another way to seperate it out. There is no need for sloppy wiring like this.
Finished off the same way. Short and Sweet story but man the writing was hard.

Part 20: Kind of boring story actually. Not much to it and some obscure references to other books in the series. Also a bit of a cliffhanger.

Overall I wasn't a fan of most stories. I think some of the stories would be better if they were easier to read as stand alone or came with a preface of permanent references. As in, "here's an excerpt or back of book sort of summary. Also, here is the important information to know. Enjoy the story"

The entire book is absolutely fantastic! I love each novella from all the authors. One of my favorite is Cursed by Christmas by Stephany Wallace.

Brings back so much memories f the Dynasty of Blood series. I love the interaction between all the characters. The banter between them is awesome! It had me laughing from the onset!

You have to read the book! This lil' novella will draw you in from the get go and you'll enjoy the others too!

First of all I have to say that, sadly, I haven't read the Dynasty of Blood Saga, but after this amazing short story, I totally will!!! 🤩
Sweet, fun, emotional short story that will captivate you, make you laugh, enjoy the party, literally, and even make you shed a tear with an unexpected but fantastic twist for one the main characters 😳🤯🤗😍
Can't wait to dive in the Saga to get to know all the characters better!!! 💖

“Review for Cursed by Christmas, by Stephany Wallace.”
Loved Cursed by Christmas! An eventful and fun short Christmas story! Vampires, witches, and Gargoyles! Dariah hopes this will be the first Christmas of many to come with her new family, but what she gets are little surprises the whole night! Such a fun and light story, with great characters and a storyline that you don't have to have prior knowledge of. Hopeful and celebratory!

Good stories about Christmas.

Enjoyed all the different stories and characters. Some were a little confusing because too many unanswered questions but all were interesting. The characters were very unique and enjoyable. It would be very difficult to go into each book and the storylines and a very long review. That being said, if you enjoy the strange and unusual, you will enjoy the collection.

This is my honest review!

Cursed by Christmas by Stephany Wallace

It’s an exhilarating and comical read set in a world I know and love from the Dyansty of Blood Saga. I can’t be happier that my favourite characters are back together in this ultra whitty instalment.

Ivas was always one of my favourites and I’m so glad to see more of him this time too!

Hot momma! This was a wonderful reunion!! I absolutely loved the playful banter between all the characters. And Ivas got a little more 'screen' time if you will. Gave me just the fix I needed to be with some of my favorite characters! Great job Ms. Wallace!

Review for Cursed for Christmas by Stephany Wallace

This is such a “feel good” read!!!! Leaves you feeling all warm and gooey.
The fam and friends from Dynasty of Blood are together for one more showdown, Christmas! There are twists that I did not see coming. I found it THE PERFECT ending to the series. Thank you Stephany, no cliffhangers!!!!
But hopefully there’ll be a spin-off......

I loved the family orientation of this story. Of course all the great characters coming together for Christmas made it feel like a visit with an extended family...of sorts. LOL I always loved Ivas, and am so glad to have him take a huge part of this novella. Hopefully, we might get a spin off series. Hint, hint ;)

Review for Stephanie Wallace. This story was fast, fun, and festive. I loved it. The first page drew me in and I finished it in one shot. Its the perfect fit for a christmas anthology read with the snow outside where ita supposed to be and a fire going. Gargoyles rank up there in the top paranormal beings I love so it was nice this one had its own little quirks.

A new spin on Christmas stories

I gave this book a five star rating because it put a new spin on your typical and traditional Christmas story and I liked how each author incorporated a supernatural being for their individual stories. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a supernatural story and a book that thinks outside the box.
