Follow a group of people who meet weekly for salsa as they plan a trip to France for the weekend. It focus on their relationships as they begin to learn and bond during their time together.
They will face situations wit each other and outside the group as they navigate life. It’s a journey as they find themselves through dance and life.
Multi-layered story and character study with both the glitz and steamy encounters of the Latin dance scene + the messy underbelly of human emotions. Original and captivating.
I loved reading this spicy tale by Jennifer Anne Lynch. I related well to the setting, the colourful characters and their feelings. I could easily visualise the world of passionate Salsa through their different perspectives, from the picture that Jennifer painted so well. The story picks up a pace and leads you on a merry dance with a feeling of anticipation, but the finale is quite unexpected, which I enjoyed. I loved Jennifer's sense of humour which brought it to life, here are a couple of the examples I liked.
‘You’ve had un oeuf? Sorry, I don’t understand. Would you like to visit the vineyard with Linda tomorrow?’ asked Andre, who looked confused. ‘Yes, that will be great because I have had un oeuf!’ Jade replied, forcing a smile, but she still felt shaken. No-one took her seriously. Well, she would soon see about that!
‘Going to a festival?’ asked the sales assistant curiously. ‘I’m going to a salsa festival, yes,’ replied Cameron. ‘Salsa? said the surprised young man. You can’t do that in this tent. You can barely stand up!’ he answered. ‘That’s when I salsa best,’ said Cameron and strode off to pack.
Sarah picked up a clean fork and turned over some veggie burgers. ‘Jade do you want one of these? If you do, make sure Andre doesn’t touch them with that meaty tong thing, or we won’t be able to eat them.’ ‘What meaty thong thing? I must have been looking in the wrong direction,’ replied Jade, who was continuing to laugh, whilst pouring yet more wine.’
I feel like I read a different book than the others who have reviewed. The best parts of the story were the dancing parts, but the rest left me angry.
Human emotions? Ppffbbtt unless you consider cheating, her excuse was menopause (?) don’t get me started. For a short story this one gets 2 stars because it could have been better by leaving out the “underbelly of human emotions” as described. A distinct and planned affair is not messy human emotions.
Thanks to GR for the book win, an honest review is what you are getting.

This is typically a book I wouldn’t read but I wanted to try something different. I did enjoy the read. The book keeps you going as all the characters intertwined with each other. A group of female salsa dancers that all fall for one guy and of course sleep with him. What happens when they find out they all had the same guy runs the story to the end. It’s not the ending you would expect. I received this book free from Goodreads.
Memorable mix of characters inhabiting the steamy Salsa scene, revealing their inner contradictions, emotional needs, ups and downs. A rare and raw honesty about the inner landscape which runs alongside the image we try present to others. Excellent book.
