I was supposed to die and go to heaven, too bad I ended up in hell.
One out of every five people end up in heaven, that's how low the chances are. So I worked hard, never swore, and did my best to be a good girl for my entire life. Then, out of nowhere, I was hit by an oncoming car, cutting my life short at age twenty-five.
Next thing I know I'm waking up in the firey pits of hell and given a scythe. My new job is to help reap the souls and take them to judgement day. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, it would be if I was a normal reaper. . . but the moment I touched the scythe it began to glow, signaling just how talented I'm going to be. Now, the three ruling princes of hell all want me as their personal reaper.
So these days I've been thinking. . . What's the use in being good when it's so fun to be bad?
Kaylin Peyerk is a lover of badass fantasy heroines and the sexy men who feel lucky to love them. She has five full bookshelves, a bursting Kindle library, and a total love for the written word. When she's not crouched over the computer like a gremlin, you can find her curled up in a nest of blankets with a well-loved book, her two corgis Link & Gannon, and a steaming cup of hot cocoa...
I think I'm done reading books that are in a series and have under 200 pages to them. I'm not entirely sure what the storyline here is? because it wasnt about some reaper that's for sure! I'm not even sure how I feel with dad and his 3 son's being the rh love interest? For some reason it really rubbed me a bit wrong. I think I'd rather have it just been Lucifer since he's the only one I felt a connection to with our H. The rest were kind of a afterthought really. This short read skips over way to much, and then focused on nothing in particular. I wanted to know more about the power our H had? More about the reapers? More about other jobs in hell? But we are forced with the knowledge that she is, or has eve's spirit inside her which is just mentioned like it's no biggie out of no where. You know what's really confusing is Eves spirit has been broken up and scattered around the world? So how does our H have it? I'm lost? Then... She's a orphan? hmmmm! just a fact dropped out of nowhere? Or weirdest of all, how she was a good nice person but now she is just snapping and slapping everyone because of some new strange darkness inside? All this is just dropped here and there while our H is way to consumed with lust for anything with a swinging d*** at the moment?' I hate reads like this, instead of and actual story we get another chick with a libido she can't honestly control and a story that falls in the background because of it. The ending? just why?
Frequently, when books have problems on the first page or in the first chapter, there’s not an investment of time before discovering that it may not be the book for me. Books that feature teenage protagonists or define characters according to their physical characteristics are also rarely my cup of tea.
Instead, this book simply left me cold. Most of the first half of the book was Aaliyah walking around. She walks down this corridor and that hallway though doorways and an open air market. She walks here. She walks there. She walks everywhere and as she walks to and fro, hither and yon, she randomly bumps into the princes of hell and they immediately fall for her. She knows instantaneously that she is dead and in hell, but the author otherwise leaves the description of the AU undefined. The market is described as Diagon Alley, presumably operating from the perspective that all readers of this book are also fans of Rowling’s books. There is mention of magic, but the author doesn’t really get into it. Same thing with “hellmarks”. Most of the book is filler and none of it makes much sense. I can only assume that the author will get around to the details at a later date in a future book.
I am rather fed up with authors who make every book an instalment of a multi-book series instead of writing one book that is excellent. Write one book. Make it interesting with a good plot and great characters. Then, after the first book is completely finished, write books 2-44 if there is still story to be told.
This one was amazing. I loved it so much. I loved the idea of it and I need to read the next book as soon as possible. The brother are just so hot and the father is sinful.
I Really liked the story, But only a 3 because.......
Okay, I would have definitely given the story a higher rating, because it was a fun and interesting storyline with great characters. The ONLY reason it is getting a lower rating, is because the author forgot that she told her readers that our main heroine had parents in the beginning of the book....."My parents were supposed to assign me a partner this year for marriage." There are other things she wrote indicating that she had parents, but later on in the book the heroine was justifying her reaction to certain behavior, because she was raised and bounced around in the foster care system. So yes, she could have had parents for part of her life and then entered the foster care, but she then tells us about putting herself through college , so then who are the parents that were going to assign a husband for her?? Other than this deviation and some grammar errors, the story was a fun read and I plan to read the next book in this series. Not only do I plan to read it, but I am excited to see what happens next. This is the first time I have read anything by this author and I can honestly say that I like her sense of humor in her writing, I just hope to see her writing get a little more polished as she continues her journey as an author. Even with all of the things that I pointed out, I would still recommend because it was a fun and interesting read. Happy reading everyone!
Good start to a new series In this book there are no sex scenes, listed as RH at the moment yes, there is more than one love interest.
I do like the fmc a reincarnation of eve from the garden of eden. I havnt read a book with this as a main focus before so I like this! She’s died in a car accident is mid to late 20s and is still a virgin.
Love interests are only just forming, I don’t necessarily by into all of them yet because she’s only been in hell a week and seen a couple of them only once or twice.
I’m looking forward to book two, and hearing more of the world building aspect of this world.
Gifted audio in exchange for an honest review. Worth the listen, narration was good I enjoyed her voice. 3 stars
Aali's racing thoughts leave no one indifferent and you have to laugh with her and at her hahahahaha. If we add to that the mmm sexy Lucifer (Luci for friends) and his also sexy sons, made me enjoy a lot with this reading. The ending shocked me because I didn't expect so much cruelty on the part of ... no, I won't reveal the name, you'll have to find it out hehehe
Okay, so I am very picky when it comes to reading books about angels/demons or about religion. So when I got this book I was very skeptical, but Kaylin is a favorite author of mine. So lets get into this book. So when Aaliyah wakes up, she knows that she is not in heaven. She finds out that she is indeed Hell. She meets the princes and the devil himself but she cannot seem to obey them. She is trying to figure how she ended up in the underworld. Now lets not forget the attraction to Amon, Liam, and Adonis as well as daddy dearest Lucifer. So what is going on? She keeps trying to keep her body in check and warring with herself about the attraction. Then we find out something crazy that could mean that she is cursed? Like what in the heck is happening. Up until the end which through me for a loop. So can good actually be evil and evil be good. All I know is that this is not your normal book. It definitely has my attention. I cannot wait for book two.
If you look past that, it's not completely bad. You have to put up with it, and then it's ok. The religious iconography was done quite well, the MC was good, the love interests had good depth, although the whole lucifer thing was....well... I still read the second, so I guess it wasn't that bad.
Listened to audio narrated by Amy Hall. Easy to follow.
Aaliyah was supposed to be an orphan but the first chapter talks about her parents. She grew up determined to always do the right thing, expecting to go to Heaven when she died at the age of twenty-five. So, imagine her surprise when she wakes up in Hell after her death
What happens when a good girl goes to hell? She throws out all the rules, becomes confrontational and can't seem to stop wanting to have sex with everyone, but doesn't seem to manage it. She has something extra making her stronger and drawing the attention of the Lords of Hell.
Squicky scenes as her sexual drive has her wanting to jump almost everyone she comes across including Lucifer Morningstar and his sons.
The ending leaves a reader dangling, wondering what just happened and where the rest of the story is. Nothing seems to be resolved, with too many dangling threads. The cover makes promises that this story doesn't deliver, maybe it will develop in future books.
🔹ARC kindly provided from the author for an honest review.🔹
Good start. Strong. Fast paced. Interesting. Sexy.
The plot was much more well developed than previous books I have read by Peyerk. More was explained. More made sense. And I am glad that the plot & the world building was focused on. It made the book stronger and much more interesting.
Aali was likeable. Fierce in her own way. A little careless, but she was in Hell after all. I found her funny too. So far I am still onboard with her. ☺️
The RH part is still up to debate whether I like it or not. I liked the descriptions and the personality of them all. Liked their different “task”, and I liked their powers. I am just really not sure about this “dad & sons- thing”. Even if dad is Lucifer😂 I am just not sure that can work for me. I do like kinky buuut even I have my limits it turns out😂 We’ll see how it will turn out. 🤷🏻♀️
Read: 11/01/2021 1st rating: 3 stars Genre/tropes: RH/romance/paranormal/demon/angels Cover: 4 stars (so cool cover) POV’s: Single 1st person (Aali) Will I recommend: Yes, a pretty cool start.
i don’t really know what I read… how did this get more than 2 stars?
Honestly. No idea. This didn’t feel like a book at all. A lot of ideas strung together with no cohesion. Fmc dies but then is bitter bc she ended up in hell and keeps wondering why she didn’t go to heaven because everything she did on earth wasn’t bad, and it’s just weird that she keeps thinking that. But then she’s going to be a reaper- and there was NO DEPTH to that segment of her stay, little to no info. She makes friends with her roommate… there’s no depth to that- period. No discussion of how she becomes a friend to others as something she never had was friends or even a life when she was living. Just so much randomness. You know what you get a ton of? Her annoying rambling thoughts. The storyline didn’t make a ton of sense and again there is NO DEPTH. No description, no day to day, just a ton and I mean a ton of inner ramblings. I wasted time I’ll never get back and what floors me? That there are people who read this and thought it was good? Honestly- it feels like a bad case of the author gifting away books for 4-5 star reviews.
I found this amusing, but also just a little too "she's the most special, special snowflake in the special field" for my tastes. It's reverse harem, I went in knowing that. But Lucifer, all his sons and god himself want her, if for different reasons. And the reason is either something beyond her control and having nothing to do with her or just super flimsy. At one point one of the sex men tells her she's the most interesting thing he's seen in ages (if not ever) and I just thought, why? There seriously isn't anything particularly interesting about her...other than that your interested in her.
But having said all of that, if I was willing to let my questions go and just roll with it all, I did enjoy myself. There's some humor, plenty of low-heat sexual tension (but no sex), and a glorious bit of blasphemy that I very much appreciate. The writing is pretty good. The narrator did a good job and it was a fun, silly romp. It does end on a cliffhanger (which I knew in advance, so no complaints). All in all, I'd be willing to read book two.
*arc review* Having finished Kaylins Royal Covens RH series, I was super excited to see she already had a new RH series planned! The fact I knew it was Kaylin, paired with the gorgeous cover and blurb had me bursting with anticipation. And let me just say, I was NOT disappointed! What an amazing first book in the series! I loved Aliyah, from her personality and her questioning of everything to adapting to her unexpected afterlife and everything it throws at her. The world building was great too, all the different types of demons and identifiers. Like the Royal Covens series, so many unexpected twists and reveals, and a whopper of a cliffhanger! Can not wait for the next book!! That cover✔️ After life ✔️ Badass and hilarious inner monologuing FMC✔️ Hell✔️ Lucifer✔️ Princes of Hell✔️ Demons✔️ Scythe ✔️ Many twists and plots✔️ C L I F F H A N G E R ✔️
Simplemente wow, me encanto totalmente.

I am amazed with this reading. I started it for the fun it promised, but found so much more.
Despite being harem obverse, it wasn't like most reads I read on the subject and I quite enjoyed the twists and turns the author has taken, leaving me with too many questions that I'm eager to resolve.
The fun was assured by Aaliya's character and the sexiness came from the hand of our favorite demons.
That ending of the book was heart-stopping. I still freak out over that twist and character I never expected. The next one doesn't promise as much fun, but it sure is going to be interesting.
This book was on fire. The story gave my emotions one hell of a ride. The FMC is snarky and blunt, but has an innocence about her I loved. The men are dangerously hot and sinful, and everything you'd expect from the king and princes of Hell. I loved the story itself, the buildup of the plot and the shocking twist towards the end. The last chapter had me jaw on the floor. But the epilogue left me feeling some kind of numbness and angst (not in a bad way....but in a need to know what's next kind of way). Just an amazing read!
This book has a very interesting premise that i havent seen before and i lile the duality and the importance of realizing that maybe hell isnt HELL but..... Just a necessary place used to keep.people who jabe jobs that benefit the world in different ways. Its super interesting to think (and it makes complete sense) that Jehova may not be the greatest thing ever because he cant sympathize or empathize or love. But is that true if he can feel vengeful or jealousy etc.? It will b so interesting to see what happens next. A must read
Mayhem In Hell: Demon Paranormal Romance (Hell To Pay Book 1) by Kaylin Peyerk is a wonderful story to read. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I have gotten hooked on and can not wait to read the rest. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about paranormal romance.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
I enjoyed the story but be prepared for a TON of inner monolog. I mean, we need to know what's going on in her head but...dang....its like she ADD so you start to get slightly annoyed. Definitely ready for the next book and hopefully it is multi point of view instead of just her, that would give me one hell of a brake from her train wreck of a thought pattern.
OMMFG I'm in love with this book and I am so glad it will be a series!! I cannot wait to see what happens next because that ending was crazy!! Really hoping that Lucifer will be one of her mates and maybe she will even win over God ( what if he falls in love with her, & she him?). Poor Skin, Liam, & Adonis they are gonna lose their minds and Lucifer is gonna feel guilty. Hope thing's turn out ok.
The story started off slow but with a great build up. I love how the author is pushing boundaries with how the MC is connected with Lucifer and his sons. In my own opinion, Lucifer must not give her up. The harem is perfect with the king and his sons.
A good twist is reading the emotional attachment between Jehovah and Lucifer, you can see that it’s beyond the creator aspect of it.
I can not wait for the next book.

I wanted to like this book. The plot is so convoluted. I was expecting a heroine that brought justice to the dead. Instead it was a weird mess of sexual tension and completely unreasonable plot twists. Devil, his son's, and God fighting over the reincarnated soul of Eve.
I get this is PR (paranormal romance) but shesh . This is a cold wet blanket of a story.
Jeez I’m sorry, I just couldn’t finish it. The story felt like it skipped parts. More than once she would come to some conclusion from something that happened that made me scratch my head wondering where it came from.
The attraction to each other was so overwhelming that it became off putting. Why? Why is she so focused on touch and hand placement?
She’s a special snowflake and the men fall into her lap.
Wonderful character depth and imagery. Kept me reading and already thinking about the next installment. The main character was both fragile and strong. You could feel the emotion. This could change your idea of what hell is like. I hated for it to end. But what an ending! If you enjoy paranormal romance, this book is for you.
Such a great read. I couldn't stop reading once I started. Alai just found out that she died and went to hell. She did not think that it was possible. On top of that, she is attracted to Lucifer, as well as, his three sons, Amon, Liam, and Adonis. This book just cannot get any better.
I am not sure that I can even process all the feels right now. This book is FANTASTIC, but I feel gutted and emotionally exhausted. I got wrapped up in the characters and it was amazing. But I am bereft, because book 2 isn't here. I have to wait and my heart can't take this kind of pressure, lol. Seriously, give it a go. It's different and well written, great read!
