"As long as I lived I would never be able to fully figure out Jasper Christmas. He was the abyss, the dark sea and buried in his depths were treasures, wonderful beautiful treasures."
Get Christmas all year long…
I thought I would end the holiday season as I had every year, alone in my bed, binging on my favorite seasonal TV shows while feverishly working to find my next article to write. That was until I received a call from an old friend, who made me a proposition I couldn’t afford to refuse.
And so this year, I was spending Christmas with the Christmases. When I arrived at the mansion, Bryn, the one who invited me, was nowhere to be found. It was her older brother, Jasper who welcomed me with un-opened arms.
Jasper Christmas was a beautiful but dark angel. He was intense, brooding and the epitome of sexy; danger dripped from his pores. Bryn’s proposition would put me at odds with this mysterious being, who guarded their family's secrets with his flaming sword.
So soon I found myself passionately entangled with Jasper Walker Christmas. I’m now worried that our encounters will make me betray the reason Bryn invited me here in the first place.
Z.L. Arkadie is stepping into a new era of emotionally rich, upmarket romance that sweeps you away and thrills your heart in the best possible way. Her upcoming stories promise the kind of passion, longing, and intensity that pull you out of the everyday and into something unforgettable. For readers who crave stories that ache, soar, and stay with you—this is where it begins.
The Christmases are a weird family, all the brothers are hung up on sex and Bryn is so secretive. This book is a great mystery. What is Valentine holding over Jasper? There are many secrets to unravel. The story ends on a cliffhanger.

OMG!!!!! I loved this book! I honestly read the book twice. The first time I could not put the book down. It had me so intrigued I had to keep reading it to find out what happened next. I was up half the night, but sooooo worth it. This book is so full of twists that it seemed I kept thinking "WHAT???" "No Way!" I read it a second time just to make sure I did not miss anything. The characters are so complex in this book. Just when you think you had one of the Christmases figured out, think again! The Christmases had me perplexed, especially Jasper. I am still not sure how to feel about him. He has many layers to peel back and I believe we have only seen a glimpse. Holly and Bryn (Jaspers sister) went to college together, they are like night and day. Years later Bryn gets back in contact with Holly and wants her to do some "research" on her family. Holly is good at reading people and knows there are dark secrets that the family does not want to get out, except for Bryn. Jasper and Holly have hot chemistry!! Whew, do they ever. I can't wait for the next book, I need to find out what happens. This is one of Z.L. Arkadie's best books. A must read, you will not be disappointed!!
This whole series was weird. I only kept reading because I wanted to know if I was right, was surprised at one thing, mother was kidnapped, but everything else I knew. Main guy was very controlling. The relationships with everyone was weird, I think the author tried to make it a mystery but it was more annoying than anything, he would never answer her questions or only so far and she was like, ok! Let’s have sex! And sex again because that’s all we can think about when we get close, even when life altering events are happening. Ugh. I won’t read any more from this author.

This may very well have been a good book… but when chapter 4 and chapter 5 are the same exact chapter…. I don’t have the patience to re-read a ychapter let alone stick around to the end. I am putting this down without finishing it. Something I never do.
honestly i have no clue what version i read ...it is free kindle from Amazon. books 2 and 3 are not free, you must buy them. i read Asher's books first ...so i felt in this book Asher was more boring ...like he was sexier in his reads ...this one he is kind of to himself and not the center of attention. maybe that was the point ...not sure??! the book i read was a red writing on the front but when you get inside the man with face has a blue tie??
here is the writing inside: "As of March 19, 2022, this story, which is the foundation of the entire series, has been updated. The POV is now first-person present tense to improve readability and pacing. Also, story elements have been refined. If you read Intrigued already, then you'll definitely want to reread it."
so if like me you are new to the series ...reading in an odd order ...u will wish to know this as well as the reading order. i am curious about Spencer?? it is interesting how they Bryn keep saying "watch out for my brothers", well which one is the normal one?? i wouldn't have an opinion considering i would have only read Jasper's first book, 2 more to go. but being that i have read Asher's book, i am like Asher with a side of Jasper, LOL!! we will see after i have read Bryn's book ...she sounds like a weirdo, but i don't wanna jump to conclusions yet, i wanna give her the benefit of the doubt, i think this whole family is strange. i will say ...you better have a great memory or take NOTES!! so important. we will, see???
This book had me hooked from the very start and when I finished it I wanted to scream. There is another book and I can't get my hands on it immediately!!! What a family the Chrismases are. Dirty mouthed, violent, full of secrets but each with very tortured souls. Jasper is so manipulative but I think he has met his match with Holly, and what has happened to Bryn and Dale? Fabulous characters and I am sure Asher and Spencer and Bryn could each have their own stories. So many questions about their father and mother and Arthur Valentine. What is the original sin that binds them together? Will Holly find out and can she find a future with the tortured Jasper? Unfortunately, I will have to wait for the next book but omg it can't come soon enough.

I definitely agree with the title. The book is intriguing. That mansion holds many mysteries as much as secret passageways. Equally obvious is Jasper’s addiction with Holly. The chemistry is there. Sex was steamy, intense, and non-stop. But the question is “Is it enough?”. I can’t wait for the continuation of this story and the rest of its revelations. [I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.]
Holy s**t I love this book. This is going to be a great series with family secrets that run deep and I can’t wait to find out what they are. This book has me hooked and I’m counting the days for the next book. Definitely recommend this book
A great steamy read. I wish I had realized this was a book that would end on a cliff-hanger, so if you do not like cliff-hangers wait until the series is finished to read. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I will not read cliffhangers. I prefer standalone. My reading time us limited and if a story cannot be told in one book then it doesn't need to be told.
Beware Cliffhanger but enough mystery and intrigue I don't care!
If you have read any of my previous reviews by now you know that there are something's I really dislike in a novel. For instance more sex then plot. Or too much reality without a happily ever after. But I especially dislike cliffhangers! And if I have to wait months or a year to get the next book I become extremely agitated. Intrigued by Z.L. Arkadie is part of a trilogy so a cliffhanger was anticipated. But by the time I got to the end of the book I was so intrigued (pun intended) with the mystery that I screamed in frustration when I reached the cliff! After I got my household to settle down, I realized the rest of the series was already available, so all is not lost. My only problem now is my overflowing To Be Read Shelf and reaching the limit of this month's book allowance. Oh to be as rich as the Christmases in Z.L. Arkadie's Intrigued! So putting cliffhangers aside let's discuss what I liked about this novel. There is plenty of hot panty melting sex but it is very well blended in the plot. In fact who is involved with whom is a large part of the intrigue. The other part of the mystery is whether or not the sex is consensual as well as the hint of a dominant-submissive theme. The characters are developed over time, naturally as the main character, Holly Henderson, renowned investigative reporter, gets to know them , as a guest of the Christmases over the holidays. This again adds to the suspense as you become aware that not everyone is as straight forward as they seem. I especially loved Harper Christmas the main male character. Harper has that Gothic hero/villain vibe to him. In fact the whole family mansion at the holidays With a group of family and outsiders has that Gothic historical novel feel to it. I loved those novels as a kid so maybe that's why I got so caught up in this novel. The suspense gave me that spine tingling feeling of excitement as I was drawn further and further into the story. And as I said before, even knowing, the author was going to leave me hanging from the side of a cliff, I was so absorbed in the story, I never saw it coming until I turned the last page. The wait to read the second book may just kill me! Ok so I was never good with delayed gratification! You can bet your bottom dollar , I will finish the Jasper Christmas trilogy, sooner rather than later!
This is the first time I’m reading anything by Z.L. Arkadie. So, let’s meet the Christmases, a powerful and rich family full of secrets, lies, and deep dark secrets. Bryn Christmas invited Holly Henderson, an investigative reporter and her college roommate to write an investigative story about her family. That meant interviewing Bryn and her three brothers: Jasper, the oldest brother; Asher, Bryn’s twin brother; and Spencer, the quintessential playboy. Then there is Randolph, their elderly father who is stashed away in his sick bed…dying and the mystery of his much younger wife Amelia’s death.
The entire time Holly was at the Christmas estate, she was immersed in bickering between all the siblings, outright lust from Spencer, and sexual trysts with Jasper. She couldn’t resist Jasper and although she had a story to investigate; she couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to Jasper than being bedded by him. Holly learned quite a few things too about the Christmas men (except for Jasper) including their father and their affinity for prostitutes. Then there was a debt their father owed to Arthur Valentine, a former mobster, that Jasper was supposed to make good on.
Overall, this was a fun read. There were lots of twists and turns to this story and I was definitely intrigued. The characters were well developed and the dialogue was spot on. However, I really wanted to find out what the Christmas siblings were hiding, especially the debt owed to Arthur Valentine, and the death of Amelia Christmas. Everything was shrouded in secrecy even Bryn’s answers to Holly’s questions were not always straightforward. Unfortunately, the book ended in a cliffhanger and unless I read the other books in the series, I will not know how everything shakes out. Otherwise, this was a good read!
Some of my favorite lines:
“What about your brother Jasper?” I asked. Just saying his name made my heart flutter. I wished I knew why he had such an effect on me. Her eyebrows furrowed. “What about him?” “He warned me to stay out of your family affairs.” She twisted her mouth, showcasing enough anxiety to make me feel worried. “Am I going to end up at the bottom of the ocean or something?” “I’m not going to downplay his bark; it does have a bite. But Jasper is very cautious about who he sinks his molars into.”
2.5 rounded up because I didn't hate it. What piqued my interest was the idea this was a spicy romance with a mystery. Holly is asked by Bryn, her old college roommate, to Bryn's family's mansion to write a memoir on her family and uncover secrets her father and brothers are hiding. Holly starts falling for Bryn's older brother Jasper while trying to investigate the family. Sounds great right? Ugh, we never get told any secrets (except all the siblings like sex and some of them like it rough), nor does Holly uncover anything especially interesting or scandalous (except for their dead mother's real age - big deal). Instead, she keeps following Jasper around like a lost puppy, saying yes to constant sex with him even though he keeps her at arm's length, won't tell her anything of consequence, is rude & demanding, and emotionally unavailable. It's like any conversation they have ends with Jasper wanting sex and Holly going, yes please!
There are 3 books in this series and this one ends with a cliffhanger, and from what I've read, so does the second book. Due to the cliffhanger aspect and because neither the MC's nor the mystery intrigued me enough, I won't be reading book 2.
—>>> Holly does not make any friends in an exclusive college, just one, really, and she nets very-well-to-do Bryn as a roommate, who mysteriously disappears after their first year together. Bryn appears back in her life and invites Holly to spend Christmas with her family, but does not get a very warm welcome from Bryn’s brothers, especially the oldest, Jasper. However, their attraction to each other is instant and magnetic, and they simply cannot keep away from each other. But it is the warnings from everyone around her during her stay at the manor which has her not knowing whom to trust, as Holly is warned away from even from Bryn herself.
Intriguing family with seemingly very dark secrets and many other types of skeletons in their closets (complete with hidden passageways, too)! Looking forward to learning the answers to all the questions raised, because there were certainly a lot of bits and details revealed!
Let me say I read Spencer Christmas and Jada Forte's story first and maybe 🤔 I should have read Jasper and Holly's story before I read theirs. Some of the pieces of the family dynamics was filled in with just reading the first book 📚📖 of the Dark Billionaire Jasper Christmas. Jasper and Holly's story begins with her coming to the Christmas Mansion for Christmas 🎄. She was invited by Bryn who was her roommate at college. The Christmases paid for her dorm the entire four years she went to college. She liked Bryn but she only saw her for the first year. This story was strange in that siblings did not trust one another. Jasper being the oldest and his father on his death bed at this time had to resume the position as the Head of the family. Amelia to he mother was deceased. So many secrets and lies and drama. I am definitely ready to find out what happens with Jasper and Holly. Good Read.
2.5 stars. I hate books like this one. The entirety of this novel was just a build up for another book, so I just wasted time reading 208 pages of nothing that I could have spent reading a better book. The cliffhanger does explain why this book was basically an erotica with a fem protag who liked cosplaying as Nancy Drew, I was starting to wonder.
Don't get me wrong, the book was really well written and I would have given it a better score if the sequel hadn't been forced. With all the time the protags spent screwing the 'mystery' surrounding the Christmas family (I don't even know what questions the fem protag was trying to answer anymore or why exactly she cared so much because the mystery was secondary to the screwing) could have absolutely been resolved within one book.
so glad i didn't pay for this book. it was crap. Holly is invited to her college roommate Bryn's childhood home for Christmas under some strange request. Once there, she (of course) is intrigued by Jasper, Bryn's brother. "lock your door" Jasper told Holly, then he sneaks into her room and screws her anyway. came through so secret passage. this is at 3% in the book. It goes downhill from there. They bang like monkeys (in secret) while she is supposed to be writing a book about the family. You never learn what secrets are being hidden, well except for the dead mother's real age. Ends on a ridiculous cliff hanger, a demand from a bad guy that Jasper must marry his daughter and naturally, Holly runs away without being stopped by anyone.
Over the last months of 2023 started looking for new authors to read. For a first read was very impressed. Holly (FMC) goes to visit with a former roommate at Christmas. She meets her brothers, including Jasper (MMC). He comes across very rude and rather hostile to her because she is a Journalist who his sister has brought to help ghost write a book on their family history. The attraction between them becomes impossible to avoid. She is awakened by a voice in her bedroom - Jasper. There are secrets to uncover. The Blackstones have a lot of secrets they don't want known. Their home also holds secrets - secret passages. The only disappointment is the book ends in a cliffhanger which I find very frustrating because now it requires me to wait for me to obtain the next book in the series.
Well the title of this book caught my attention and wow did it not disappoint. This book held my attention and I just could not put it or the others that follow down. I read all three in two days. I was just hooked. Each book ends in a sort of cliff hanger moment which keeps you motivated to read the next one. The characters are really intense and there is a lot of mystery and deception. You will be surprised at the skeletons in the closet in these books.
Overall these books are addictive and highly recommended reads. They have lots of triggers that readers should be aware of like: kidnapping, prostitution, abuse both physical and mental, pedophilia, rape, etc. It is not a light read. It is very dark with very scary situations. I am totally in love with Holly and Jasper.
I received a preview of this book and it was an un-put-down-able read. I loved that we had his side and her side chapters, that's an angle I love about this author. Not only that this was a new avenue for her, so suspenseful and as the title suggests full of intrigue. I cant wait to read more about these characters, they really came to life. I am on tenterhooks for part 2 role on the next few weeks. I was so hooked i read it in a day, and you will too I'm sure. Jasper and his siblings have privileged lives but are obviously damaged, I cannot wait for the back story to be revealed, as well as what's happened to XXXX. Happy reading all.
This was my first time reading this author and I must say that I really enjoyed the book. It was very suspenseful and is surrounded in a mystery that reporter Holly is trying to uncover about the Christmas Family! When she is contacted by her old college classmate Bryan, she has no idea what awaits her at the Christmas Mansion. She also has no idea who she can trust and who she can’t!! This makes this book a very quick read because you just can’t put it down! You have to find out what happens next! And now I have to find out what happens in the next book! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A brooding billionaire An investigative journalist A sinister situation Although this is a billionaire story it's also a good twisty almost thriller read which I enjoyed. Their relationship develops despite Jasper admitting he can't get involved yet he does. Trigger adult theme Good characters I loved Holly she's feisty and strong and very smart. Jasper is your typical billionaire charmer used to getting exactly what he wants. There's a Secret that we don't discover until book two in the series. Not sure I'll read it straight away but definitely will finish the series Kerry Kennedy Author
This story was so captivating it kept me wanting more. I’m glad that this one was free because it got me into the story of Holly and Jasper and now I just bought the second book and can not wait to continue reading. I love these types of genre but THIS this was amazing. I love the mystery and erotic play of it all. Hope the second one is just as good, if not, better because I’m beginning to like this author and might continue to read others book written by her. I haven’t found an author of such genre that kept me this captivated and wanting more in so long and I’ve been waiting for one to come along and then this book jumped at me out of nowhere and I could not put it down.
When investigative report thinks she'll spend another Christmas alone, her old friend Bryn invites her to their family home. Only its Bryns older brother Jasper who opens the door, their chemestry is electric but Holly has a job to do one that will mean the Christmas family secrets will come to light. But at what cost? Well written The story line grabs and holds your attention the characters develop well through out. I cant wait for more!

I would have given this five stars, but the editing errors deemed I reduce my rating to four. Writers need to ensure they have a good editor in place to do justice to their work. The story is engaging and worth reading. However, I found the errors distracting. Thus the rating. I do look forward to reading the next book. I’ve already read Asher’s duet, so now I’m getting the full background story. I do recommend the book, just be prepared for the errors.
