What happens when a dragon discovers the existence of El Dorado? An epic and hilarious world tour of course!
Vainqueur Knightsbane and his minion Victor are back for their most dangerous adventure yet: circling the world of Outremonde in their quest for levels, riches, and glory! Together, they will save lost cities of gold from lead-loving undead, conquer countries wholly unprepared for them, and spread the Dragon Way of Life across the globe!
But the fairy lords of the Fomors have gained the ability to level-up, and their threat looms ever closer...
Dolorosamente.
Keeps up with the previous books trend, lots of fun with character development. Even if litrpg isn't my favorite genre, some make room for their protagonists to grow a personality. This series is among those, and even though the characters are caricatural, part of the fun, they have some real personal struggles.
Book 3 continues the series and expands the world much further, with lots of world building and interesting new characters that get introduced. A lot of character development too, and this time, there's a lot of consequences to the actions that some of them do.
Probably the funniest book so far in the series for me, there were some scenes and setups that were absolutely incredible with how insane and absurd they were. An absolute joy to read, and I'm kinda sad that book 4 is gonna be the last in the series.
A truly amazing third volume of V&V goodness, filled to the last page with legendary battles, incredible loot, funny-as-Happyland jokes, on-point parodies, a gut-punch finale with a prophecy fulfilled and the promise of the final war between V&V and the Fomor Empire with the rest of Outremonde at stake.
I really couldn't put this one down, as one situation quickly resolved into another, even crazier one. From a card tourney to decide a life enmity, to minion battles, to a world tour, to a very special school for wizards, to Heaven reveals, to the fate of Icefang's adventuring company, to one EPIC encounter after another!
Here's hoping the fourth and final volume of Vainqueur and Victor ends on a high note, because this one entry really set the bar up high.
This series gets stronger the further along we get. The "buddy cop" feeling seems to mature even more as main characters start to struggle with realizations, epiphanies, and the consequences of their actions. This book is a solid balance of comedy and decent plot. Probably the best balanced of the three I have read so far and I find myself a little bummed I am about to read the last of the series.
This is also one of the funniest of the series. I couldn't stop laughing when Victor accidentally starts to trip balls mid way through the book. Without giving away a spoiler, I will say that the best quote of the book is near the end ... "With all due respect sir, you are a whore.". I just lost it at that point.
The humor works just right. It's a buddy series to the very end. A Dragon and his Minion, bros forever.
And this time, they get the road trip they've always wanted, to see new places and kill new people all in the name of gold. Precious, precious gold. Or power-ups. One or the other.
The zinger at the end may or may not be my cup of tea (Vic's escapades) but it seems like it (and he) might turn out all right. Still, fun stuff, all the way.
Personal note: If anyone reading my reviews is be interested in reading my SF (Very hard SF, mind you), I'm open to requests.
Just direct message me in goodreads or email me on my site. I'd love to get some eyes on my novels.
I have liked first two books of this series, and the first half of this one was going along pretty good, then (small spoiler) the rest of the book was like the author took a hot of LSD and continued writing. It would really help this series if the author would include a glossary of characters and monsters with a little bio about them. In the second half of the book I had to go back to try and figure out what the heck was going on. I think I will still get the last book in the series, haven't decided yet.
It's a great series if you can get past the MC's spineless personality (may just be the narrator's take on the char though). Very funny, plenty of adventure and mixed with the perfect amount of grimdark.
Audiobook is recommended for the great dragon voicing alone, although there have been a lot of post-production screwups where one line is delivered without the voice filter while the next line is. I feel like I noticed this most in the third book.
The character development was amazing from humorous sarcasm to self doubt self awareness and the question of what's moral all the while putting everyone in amazing startling situations that even though they questioned them selves they still pulled through and like in real life there was loss and as the old saying goes you have to loose to gain and the characters all gained self worth. Amazing story and loved the parody.
This was another great entry in the series. I really felt like Vainqueur and Victor have grown and matured. The battles were intense and the other character interactions were good too. The dialogue remains genuinely funny and the plot was solid. The narration had a couple of brief repeats and a few bits where the Vainqueur voice effect wasn't used but it was 99.9% perfect.
Mistakes: While I have ignored the mistakes in this series, because I enjoy the story. It is my hope that the author will pull them at some point after book four is published and edit the entire series. A story this fun shouldn't be marked with so many mistakes.
4.5 stars. Seemed to me a better read than the second book, but it's been a while. All I know is it's better than book 2 and not quite as good as the first one.
It's kinda all over the place, but it worked for me so I won't punish the rating for that. The fourth and final book is out and up next for me to read, so on to that.
Not as well structured as the previous novel due to the world (building) drastically expanding. The character growth was less entertaining but more heartfelt/realistic. I’m looking forward to reading the last book!
I like Dragons, I like sarcasm, I love this book. Vainqueur is a fantastic mix of humor, story, and character development. The only real downside is that multiple revivals for the same character kills some of the battle tension
Seriously, this is one of the funniest series I've read to date. The action scenes were very well written, and great power progression for our main characters. Cant wait for the next book.
The best one of the saga so far! This time not only was I amused by the usual humorous situations, but the battles themselves made me feel involved, and most of all, Victor and especially Vainquer had huge, real character development.
Another amazing volume of the V&V company! It has been such an amazing journey so far. I hope that the next volume will bring about an awesome ending worthy of a dragon.
Enjoyed reading it as the author continues the character development of both the V&V adventure company I'm looking forward to seeing how this all comes together
Great read. If you liked the first two, you will love this one. Our duo are growing more and more powerful and things are approaching the end. It was awesome seeing how they grew.
