***Disclaimer that I will ALWAYS respect any fanfic author despite if I have negative reviews or rant about something. They put out their hard work—that they pour their love and energy into— for free and I’ll always have admiration and respect for that, despite whatever my opinions on the fic may be. The only reason I post reviews on fics at all is so that I can personally look back to see what I thought of a story in case I forgot or in case I’m considering a reread. I don’t think fics should be rated like published books are (which is why I’d prefer my reviews of fics aren’t read at all) and only write these for personal future reference and to help me remember. If Goodreads had an option to make reviews private, I would. I’m also very critical and easily annoyed so my opinions are probably exaggerated and should be taken with a grain of salt. Just because I might not like something doesn’t mean others won’t love it***

Very original plot for a fanfic, to the point where it didn’t feel like a fic at all. This could easily be turned into a published book without any copyright issues. I also liked the original characters (all my love to Hugo 🥰 his character development is was amazing but heartbreaking). I genuinely think the author could turn this into a published novel and hope she eventually tries to do so.
That was kind of to the fic’s detriment, though, because I didn’t feel like I was reading a dramione fic at all. Or like this even took place in the Harry Potter world. Hermione and Draco, as characters, were quite boring and one dimensional with little personality. Both the characters and world were so different that this felt more like a random fantasy novel than anything. The only times it really felt like a Harry Potter fic were the scenes where Harry himself was there, and those were the only times the fun dynamics of the characters really came into play. And the magic/political system in the book had a bunch of plot holes.
This was lowkey boring and slow and it took me forever to read it, and I kept seeing how many pages were left because I just wanted to be finished with it (though I think a lot of my boredom came, not from the writing, but from the fact that I was looking for more romance and plot action and less battle strategy and politics and this just wasn’t what I was looking for—definitely just personal preference) and there was hardly any romance or movement in the story. They just got together and that was it.
The first and last 20% of the story were probably my favorite parts. Everything else was a bit slow for me.
Overall the originality was cool but I was bored and this just wasn’t what I was looking for.
