They say truth will always out. But when it surfaces, are we ever prepared for the consequences?

Wolves and vampires are forced to unite when spectres appear to reveal unimaginable truths. For Tori, the truth may be more than she can bear.

Graham’s tormented memories fuel his revenge against the Cedar Copse and Carter Plains wolf packs, but his suspicious behaviour has caught the attention of his vampire friend, Tori. When a sinister legacy bears down upon them, Tori fears it’s not just the wolves who are being haunted; her past has returned to haunt her too, and as the ghosts close in, none are prepared for the unimaginable truths about to be revealed.

Haunted is book three of the Turning Moon series, where friendship and love are both tested and discovered as supernatural beings join forces.

Haunted is the third book in the Turning Moon series by Julie Embleton. This time we follow Tori - a vampire - as she gets herself mixed up in the world of werewolves and their shenanigans.

It took me quite a while to get into Haunted. I think because I loved Michael (from Released - book 2) sooo much, I wasn't really prepared to move on with another character. However, once I got into the story itself, I found myself swept along with the action. The storyline is quite complex, unique as always - that's what I've come to expect from Julie Embleton, and full of twists and turns. I almost think it could have been split over two books, one telling Graham's story and one telling Tori's story, although they are interlinked and the actions of one do impact on the actions of the other. Personally I prefer shorter books because I have little/no patience, but you certainly get your money's worth with this one!

So, to conclude, if you like a werewolf story, but you're looking for a series that's not quite as obvious as some of the others, start with Bound, read Released and then check out Haunted. I'm sure Julie's next book will be as good, but sadly that's not published yet so I'll have to wait (im)patiently for it's release.

I have been completely compelled in my need to read these books. That is a little inside joke, for compelling is what vampires do when they want to control another or capture a victim to feed on. And in Haunted, book 3 of The Turning Moon series, the tale is dominated by a vampire and her past. Werewolves are the central characters of books one and two and are still of major importance in book 3, but the life and history of the vampire Tory seems to take center stage as the book unfolds. The stories of the two species blend and integrate and are part of the whole. I have been compelled to read Ms. Embleton’s series and I am a willing victim. They are thrilling and addictive. But for me Haunted has been the most thrilling of the three. And I do love vampires.

In Haunted we get to enjoy the characters we have come to love, and now we get to know Tori, her past and the vampires of her past, especially in the character of Alexander, who she was bonded to and who was the vampire to first turn her. Everything about the truth of Alexander will surprise you. I can say no more. But Tori is my kind of girl, independent, strong-willed and courageous. She suffers a great deal in the story, physically and emotionally, and you feel for her all the way. She is also compassionate and loyal and has fallen for the attractive werewolf, Blake. Werewolves and vampires aren’t supposed to mix, but in Haunted, barriers are meant to be broken.

Haunted has an amazing plot. Just about everything you think you understand keeps changing and you are continually surprised. Motives aren’t what they appear to be and secrets are everywhere, but as they unfold you are stunned and yet see the new logic. You understand events in a brand new light, some that have a long history (150 years in Tori’s case) and you are surprised many times over by what has and is really happening. The overall story of the werewolves is wonderfully integrated with Tori’s. It is hard to say more as giving any of these plot twists away is not what a review is meant to do. It is meant to compel you to read the book. Please do!

The third book in this thrilling werewolf series by Julie Embleton, and interestingly, the main character is a vampire. Tori has fought hard to regain herself after her release from the control of her enigmatic vampire sire, Alexander. She has made a life for herself, a life containing friends, and she’ll do anything to keep her existence and her autonomy, intact.

But old secrets are bubbling in the darkness which threatens not just Tori’s peace of mind but her very life as well. With enemies and allies lurking in the shadows, Tori must decide whom to trust and in turn, must try to convince a pack of very suspicious wolves that they can trust her – especially a certain handsome and personable wolf called Blake.

Well written and very nicely paced, these books are a joy to read even to those not usually too enamoured with the werewolf trope. As usual, it is the social structure and hierarchy within the wolf pack that fascinated me – as it stretches what we mere humans would consider family beyond the realms of blood and marriage.

Wonderful, three-dimensional characters make you feel and suffer along with them, and by the end of the book, I was rooting for Tori and cared about what happened to her.
I think this series is a trilogy, but I am hoping that the author won’t be able to resist revisiting the pack for one more story, and maybe another after that.

An excellent read, well deserving of the five stars I am awarding it.

Can she keep the intrigue going? Yes, she can!

One of the best series I started reading this year was author Julie Embleton’s Turning Moon series. As soon as I finished one book, I jumped right into the next installment – and “Haunted” (Book 3) was everything I wanted plus more.

If you’re familiar with this series, you know that Embleton focuses on characters hailing from several wolf packs. However, she introduced an important side character in her second book (Released) – a vampire named Tori. She returns in “Haunted” as a complex and fascinating protagonist alongside Blake Creedon, a wolf belonging to the Cedar Copse pack.

When Tori reappeared in this latest installment, I wondered if the author could seamlessly pull two opposing worlds together (wolf and vampire) in a refreshing and intriguing way. She could and did. Tori, introduced to the others through a ‘lone wolf’ (Graham) – one eschewing the pack life – is tough and not to be trifled with, but she’s also quite caring. She takes her powers seriously – clearly understanding the risk she brings to others simply by associating with them.

There was a particular scene displaying this care that really stood out for me. Blake, the wolf with a growing attraction for Tori, encourages her to stay longer on pack land following a tense visit. Tori’s response: “Do not invite me in. This arrangement needs to be kept nice and simple. The last thing I want is to be the vampire who has access to your homes.”

And THAT is the thread continuing throughout this book. Tori knows who she is, and desires to keep clear boundaries so that none will suffer consequences – herself included. But, at what cost to her happiness?

Tori endeavors to do the right thing. She is sort of a big sister to Graham, willing to help him deal with his own personal demons, but also holds him accountable. At the end of the day, she is a vampire with a strong moral compass. This is what the reader comes to know. Author Embleton expertly takes us to that place without resorting to common cliches.

But “Haunted” is not just Tori’s book. Blake, loyal friend to his Alpha wolf and pack, is drawn to her. Unlike his friends, he never met his wolf’s ‘mate’ and finds himself seeking a relationship – at first a friendship – with this exciting woman. And of course, things are not going to be easy for this pair, and not only because they come from two different worlds. Graham, the ‘lone wolf’ mentioned previously, carries a terrible secret – one that endangers many – Blake and Tori included.

Tori puts herself in grave danger and faces multiple enemies: Graham’s and even a terrifying, violent one from her own past. Blake, pulled into the chaos as his pack – and burgeoning love interest – is threatened, fights for Tori: her safety, and ultimately, her heart.

An observation: Blake stood out to me in a way that Embleton’s previous male leads (wolves) did not. While strong and driven when facing danger, to me he seemed more laid back when compared to the leads in books one and two (Dean Carter and Michael Vincent respectively). For me, it was a great character / personality to flesh out. Blake could be interested without intensity, protective but not overbearing, and curious instead of cautious. This does not make him a better character than the others (indeed, Michael Vincent from “Released” remains my favorite), but it shows the wide range of characters the author is developing throughout her series. And THAT makes it even better.

This book has so many moving parts! The sub-plots are plentiful and still all fit together to drive the main story forward. It’s impossible to highlight them all, but I can guarantee you will find themes of: taking responsibility for one’s life regardless of past mistakes; forgiveness; altruism; courage; humility; and the reopening of a heart long gone cold. Additionally, secrets are exposed, the past returns in terrifying ways, but also curious ways. Separately, Graham and Tori must work through what this means for their futures. And Blake, he offers the chance for Tori to not face her future alone. This odd couple works.

But Julie Embleton, master of delivering a satisfying ending while she also makes you gasp with surprise, promises more drama in the next book of the Turning moon series (Torn). If you have not yet started this captivating series, stop what you’re doing and pick up a copy of book one, “Bound.” Once you enter the world of Embleton’s wolves, you won’t want to leave.

Werewolves, vampires and witches. OH, MY!
This is Tori’s story. And OMG! What a story it is! Ok, I’ve got to start at the beginning. Tori and Graham have a special kind of relationship and I thought that was the way this story was going. Both have issues that need to be faced. I just didn’t think it was going to be this way. I had no idea. I was caught completely unawares. I should have known. There were clues.

There are three parts to a story...world building, character development and story flow. Bound was more world building. Release was character development. Haunted is story flow. There were so many twists, turns and whiplashing going on that I almost got motion sickness. At about half way, I could not put the book down. It turned out to be an all nighter.

No spoilers here. But I will tell you that Tori has some unfinished business to attend to if she chooses to have a life...even a vampire one. With that being said, there seems to be something between Tori and... Nah, you’re going to have to read the book. But you still won’t really know. And perhaps that is for the best. Then there’s Nick eyeing up Lola... And, what’s the deal with Joan Clancy, Genna’s mother? There’s something there, too. Will we eventually know??? Three question marks for three questions.

This was the fastest read book of the series. I literally inhaled it in a day.

HAUNTED by Julie Embleton, book 3 in the Turning Moon series.

Following on from the first two in the series Bound and Released, we follow Graham and his tortured memories and backstory. He’s an interesting character that has been there as a background fixture in the previous books, and the author has cleverly given us tiny hints of his past that may have gone unnoticed at the time. In Haunted, with events that transpired in the first two books, Graham is all out for revenge and here is where we realise there is a whole lot more to Graham than you first think. But, his suspicious behaviour has caught the attention of his vampire friend, Tori. Tori is a great character, and her relationship with Graham is intriguing and so well-written.

This series gets better and better, with Haunted being my favourite so far…
The whole werewolf trope is not my go-to, I tend to find it too 'fantasy'. However, the author has cleverly blended a well-stirred mix of thriller, mystery, and romance to give a contemporary series that sits with my favourites.

I own the eBook but I listened to the audiobook narrated again by the brilliant Elyse Osterhaug, who always delivers. There is something very satisfying about being captured in the audio version and being immersed in the whole ambience of the story. Highly recommended read or listen. It’s now onto book 4.

I took a while to get to this last book in the Turning Moon series. It was well worth the wait. There is abundant twists and nastiness abounds, attacking our heroic wolf packs from start to finish. There are suspicions and feints from the start. The characters grew on me throughout. I found Graham entertaining, bordering on the deranged as his thirst for vengeance drive him toward a potentially bitter end. Tori is a great character who appeared earlier in the series and grows wonderfully in this book. She's one of my favourites of recent fantasy reads. The author provides tempting glances into her backstory that left me wanting much more... a spin-off perhaps ...hint hint ;-). There are plenty of twists and turns as the climax approaches, filled with sinister elements. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Julie Embleton writes nasty characters very well. I wholeheartedly recommend reading the whole Turning Moon series. I never considered this genre as something I'd be into, but on a whim went for it. This last installment lives up to my expectations after Bound and Released, and ties up the story in a perfect way. Get it. to the author.... Tori book please!

I read this book (the last in the Turning Moon trilogy) several days ago and finally found time to review it. I like this fantasy series, which surprised me as I don't generally read fantasy. The series intrigued me and entertained me. I will read more from this author.

Just like oil and water, vampires and werewolves don’t mix - unless you add the right ingredients. That’s just what Embleton does in Haunted (the third book of The Turning Moon Series), emulsifying the story with mystery, peril, and her trademark wolfy devotion. Embleton continues to enrich her series with new characters, while satisfying my craving for those I have already grown to love. If you like urban fantasy and paranormal romance, these books are a must read!

So, Tori is now my dream BFF. She's interesting, she's fierce, she's loyal and such a great friend. She's brave and a little wild, adventurous but careful, she's a take no crap kind of girl that grew on me throughout this series and culminated on this book. I can safely say Tori is one of my fave vampire girls out there. And that is why I was not so sold on the romance here as I was in the other two books. But Miss Embleton does not disappoint, and while she may lead you down a certain road, there will be a fork somewhere and you get whacked with something you didn't quite see coming. The one she threw on this book made my day. Hell, made my everything! I'm not a wolf person, I don't fancy werewolves (okay, Michael Vincent is THE exception) nor am I particular into them. I'm all for vampires. Especially those who seem very bloodthirsty, wickedly evil, a little dangerous, but who, in the end, have an agenda we never saw coming and make decisions based on their hearts alone - often, wrong decisions that break them and someone else as well. So the moment a vampire sounding quite like this gets thrown into the equation, I'm sold. Julie Embleton does a great job in presenting Tori to us in a manner we are entirely bound to her, her emotions and her vision of the world and past events. Which makes us even more surprised by the time we get hit with another version to what happened in her past and why she was put through what she believes to have been put through. All I can say now is GIMME ALEXANDRE. Yes, please, I need more of this brooding, mysterious vampire, Miss Embleton, so please, deliver!

Following immediately on from the cliffhanger ending of Released, Hunted moves the story firmly into the province of vampire Tori as she stalks her wolf friend, Graham, rightly believing that he's up to no good. The past is about to rise once more and this time it's not just the wolves who will be rocked by shocking revelations.

What I love about this trilogy is the different feel of each book, matching the change of central character. Tori's vibrant past clashes with her love for her friend and the looming romance with a wolf, but Embleton throws twist after twist at the reader, confounding expectation. Haunted indeed.

Another dive into the surprisingly civilised world of werewolves, but this time there are some vampires involved. Tori, the main character, a vampire, is a fabulous character, much edgier than the wolves, more independent, and bearing old hurts that make it difficult for her to find happiness. As with previous books, this has a page-turning plot which goes in one direction and then, wham, it goes off in another with the arrival of someone from Tori’s past, the ambiguous figure of Alexander, another vampire. He’s an intriguing character, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of him in future books in the Turning Moon series. If you enjoy reading about werewolves, vampire and witches - and even if you don’t - you will definitely enjoy this book.

I listen to audiobooks daily before I go to work. When I arrived in the parking lot of my job, I didn't want to stop listening to Haunted.

The narrator is brilliant at doing male and female voices without sounding awkward. Perhaps my active imagination enables me to see characters as she says each of their dialogues, but it was easy to picture the scenes as they played out. The brilliant way she performed the accents of the new characters reminded me of the Outlander audiobooks. I personally couldn't pull off an English and Irish accent in dialogue between two characters, but this narrator was fabulous at it.

This series focuses on a new set of characters in each book. They are all connected either by pack or other ways. I like having the characters I grew to care for in the first two books still be a part of the story. In Haunted, I got to meet a vampire along with a new werewolf and his secret. As I said with the previous reviews of book 1 & 2, these plots have elements I love in books: likeable characters, action, and romance. Also, I really like Tori and how loyal she is to Graham despite his backstory. Will there be a vampire and werewolf romance? I won't spoil it, but I wasn't disappointed and can't wait to read (listen to) the next book

Vampires, werewolves, and witches were never often on my reading radar until I started reading the Turning Moon series. Haunted is the third in the series and I’m delighted there are more to come as I really rate these books. The book is a stunning combination of exciting action and well-crafted characters set in a credible modern fantasy world. I loved the tension, the interaction between the werewolves and the main character, Tori, and the clever twists.

Compulsive, touching, and full of pace and drama – just fab!
