Han So Hee enticed me to read this. (What else could I do? She looked so gorgeous in the promotional trailer for this book!!)
Unfortunately, while the art style makes the whole book such a visual feast, there is too little plot concerning the power struggle and political schemes for my taste, and the few stuffs that do happen felt more like an excuse for the development of the main characters’ romance than the real issues.
Also, unbelievable amount of panels are spent on just one single trait of each character redundantly. (Like how the main dude has an aversion to physical touch but he is able to be at ease with Kayena are mentioned in elaborate thoughts and details once, only to be rewritten in the same manner every single time he has another interaction with her. The same thing happens with Kayena recalling her tragic past life.)
Besides, I know this is not a valid criticism, but the main girl smiles too much for my liking. Maybe I just wanted her to be more like Han So Hee’s portrayal in the trailer (like a ruthless villainess with a mocking smirk) and ended up disappointed when she is a little too smiley lol.
However, I do appreciate the fact that the second lead girl was not portrayed in a bad light for once. And while it was not a compact well-plotted story like I wished it was, it nonetheless helped me to keep reading even in the midst of a humongous reading slump; thus, overall, it is still a win for me, I guess.
