She swore to repay her debt to him, but she will do much more than that…
Aoide was born in a poor home, and had to fight for every happy moment so far. Yet, even the strongest of hearts can be swept away by a powerful tide; when she is embroiled in an attempt to rob a tax convoy, Aoide’s path crosses with that of the towering Captain Lachlan Dunne.
Known for his stoic demeanor and stony gaze, Lachlan Dunne scares women as much as he attracts them. His powerful gait and his predatory stare, only add to this Highlander’s mystery. Aoide has to convince this bear of a man that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time and she had nothing to do with the robbery.
To everyone’s surprise, the lass succeeds in calming down the brute, and Lachlan lets her go. But not long after that, Aoide finds her way back to his encampment. She believes that she owes Lachlan her life, and she refuses to leave his side until she has repaid that debt.
Lachlan decides to scare the girl off, but the results bring him into a position he has never been before… His bursts of rage indicate that a fiery passion was buried long ago, and Aoide wonders what might lie beneath his cold exterior. She knows that attempting to tame him might be dangerous, but unbeknownst to her, without his protection she will not leave to see another day.
Sometimes self-publishing authors attract your attention. This was such a case. The blurb was fantastic. I love medieval, I love Scotland, love a grumpy hero and a determined heroine. Then I started reading. Endles pages of description, heroes thoughts. Heroines thoughts. Maybe 20 lines of dialogue in the first three chapters. It was so hard to read. Nothing jumped off the page. In fact it reminded me of compositions I wrote in school. If you like a narrative with no dialogue then snap this book up. Otherwise keep scrolling through kindle unlimited.

Lachlan was the captain of a large army of 600 men on a mission with a dozen soldiers to deliver the year’s treasure chest of collected taxes to Scone. They are attacked by a family of thieves along the way. All but four of the attackers are killed; one of those four is revealed to be female a few days later. This story of Lachlan and Aiode’s recognition of their love is beautiful, especially for Lachlan who has never, ever done anything but stoically follow the rules!

I really enjoy Alisa Adams’s books, this story is no exception. The characters were well described and the story itself was captivating and fast paced. Lachlan had such a private and strong personality , while Aoide was just trying to survive. She had no formal education but was intelligent none the less. Her mother had been accused of being a witch and Aoide was trying to keep that in the past.
This is the story of Lachlan and Aoide. It will hold your interest from the very beginning and you won’t want to put it down. The book has suspense, danger, drama and scattering of humor through. Loved the development of the characters and their relationship. Good read!
I love all the books Alisa Adams has written! This story was entertaining but way too short! The Epilogue as well! I just want more of the story, I loved this story though!! 💜💜💜💜💜🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😊😊
The premise of the story was good. The author was telling the story and not the characters. I have read numerous books by the author but this one had me flipping pages to get to the next chapter.
Another great read by a wonderful author,if you are a fan of historical romance books then it's a safe bet that you will truly appreciate and enjoy any of Alisa Adam's books.
A story packed with lots of emotion. I like Lachlan who is deep, dark and mysterious! Aoide has an unfortunate start in life and is in need of a saviour such as Lachlan. An enjoyable tale.
This was the second book in this series, it was a good story but not a lot of excitement as other stories Alisa Adams has written. Still a good book to read.
