When Hattie Stout boards the train bound for the western frontier, she doesn't think things can get any worse. Her father lost his fortune and made her a pariah in New York society. Then, the man she was engaged to marry, backed out of the arrangement to marry his cousin. When her parents decide there is nothing left to do but send her west as a Mail Order Bride, she thinks she's hit rock bottom. She's wrong!

Sheriff Ed Milton is comfortable in the life he's carved out for himself in his small mining town. But he's never met anyone quite like Hattie Stout before. When she steps out of the stage coach that fateful summer's day, she makes an impression he finds difficult to forget. She's beautiful, cultured and obviously wealthy - so what is she doing in Coloma?

A tragedy draws them together in a way neither one of them expects. And just when they think they can move on, it comes back to haunt them. Will they ever be free to follow their hearts?

Mail order bride books can sometimes become redundant. Bride comes west, falls in love and lives happily ever after. I love that Vivi Holt does not follow this method, but each time she writes a mail order bride story, it is a fresh new story with a twist that is not expected. This story is about Hattie, a debutante from New York who's family has fallen on hard times and is forced to go to California to marry a miner. On her way there, the stagecoach is held up, and little does Hattie know who the outlaws are. She arrives in Coloma and is immediately taken with the sheriff, but since she is betrothed and then married, that romance is not possible. And then the twists in the story begin. Between her husband and her boss, there is much for Hattie to work through. I loved the characters in this story, even the ones I loved to hate. The outlaws were not only surprising but horrible men, easy to dislike right along with Hattie. Ed is a man of integrity, and it's easy for Hattie to fall for him.I have to say the stand out for me in this one though, other than Hattie and Ed is Daisy. I loved her, from her growing friendship with Hattie to living the life she does to get by. She is a woman of intrigue, and I would love to see more of her!

The perfect narration by Meghan Kelly brought this story to life. She is so good at this genre, that as she tells the story, you feel like you are in the town with the mail order bride. She brings emotions and just the right amount of angst for what is going on and made this a wonderful listen!

Hattie (Cowboys and Debutantes - Book 4 )
By: Vivi Holt
Hattie is book four in Cowboys and Debutantes Series. I love these Mail order brides stories and Vivi Holt did not disappoint me. She captured me right at the start and I was hooked. Hattie is one of those books I could not put down. Hattie, A Debutante from New York had no choice but to go west as a mail order bride after her father lost his fortune. I felt so sorry for Hattie, only eighteen and going to Coloma mining town to marry a miner she does not know or has not seen. What will he look like ? Will they like each other? On the way the stagecoach runs into a problem. When they reach Coloma she meets the handsome sheriff . He thinks she is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen, but where is the man she is to marry? This is a very sweet romance filled with tragedy, love lost, action, and love. This is one mail order brides story you will want to read and find out more about Hattie . This story was a little different , but to me that is what made it good.
I was given a complimentary ARC , but was not told that I had to give a positive review.

A touching and delightful sweet romance!

Hattie is a well-written book that will keep you entertained from the beginning to the end. This story is full of action, romance and misfortunes. The plot moves at a good quick pace keeping in line with a novella. A fresh, new story line that was quick to read, captivating, and kept my attention to the very end. The characters were well developed and easy to like. This author knows how to create a story with enough romance and action to keep the reader entertained and interested.

Hattie is another book from a very gifted author that I had the pleasure to read. I have not been disappointed yet! Vivi Holt is a very talented author that tells remarkable stories that captivate you and will have you not wanting to put the book down. Definitely an author that you will want to keep on your go-to list. If you enjoy reading sweet mail order bride romances, then you will thoroughly enjoy this book and the series. A truly touching and entertaining read.

Hattie, the fourth book in the Cowboy and Debutantes series by Vivi Holt is another delightful take on the mail order bride genre. In this story New York debutante Hattie Stout is sent from her home by her father when her wealthy fiancé dumps her after the family faces financial hardship. As a last resort, Hattie’s family ships her off to a small mining town out west as a “mail order bride.” Unfortunately, her intended is a criminal who robbed the stage coach she was traveling in!

After her harrowing experience on the stage coach, Hattie befriends Sheriff Ed Milton, who helps her find a place to stay and a job. Although Hattie experiences a parade of horribles with her intended throughout this story, she eventually receives her happily ever after.

Narrator Meghan Kelly did a wonderful job of making the characters come to life. She provided different voices for all characters, and she expressed urgency in all the right placed. I’m really looking forward to listening to the next audiobook narrated by Meghan Kelly.

Have it in audio
Another winner from Vivi Holt . Meagan again was fantastic. She nailed it. Her voice was clear , strong and she did all the characters right on .

Hero is Ed. Heroine is Hattie

Hattie had to go out west as a mail order bride . Hattie had no choice but to leave New York for out west .Her father lost everything. In order for the family to survive she had to start off fresh .
On her way to Coloma the stage coach she’s on is held up . Nobody knows who is behind the robbery . The trip continues. Once Hattie reaches Coloma , her eyes falls on the sheriff. She wonders if he is her intended.
Is he grab it and find out. You will love this audio.

Bandit's Bride

The family has been swindled and bankrupted; three debutante sisters, the pride of society, have now lost all social standing--and any promises made by aspiring suitors have been forgone. Papa's solution? Ship them off as mail-order brides. Hattie's stagecoach is robbed on the last leg of her journey west. Things go downhill from there. Somehow sister Della had an easier time, emotionally, although she goes through her own culture shock (she has her own book but each story stands nicely alone). What is amazing is that both sisters are so resiliant ! I always enjoy Meghan Kelly's narration, which brings extra life to the characters, too.

Sweet Historical Romance
I was surprised the sisters didn’t end up closer to each other! While several states away, poor Hattie is practically destitute after for marriage! Thankfully the sheriff can’t seem to stay very far away!
Trigger alert. There’s prostitution, physical abuse, and kidnapping in this one. While the sordid details are all fairly hidden, the situations are pretty major part of the story.
I know it’s the same narrator, but I liked her voice more in this book!

I listened to this one on audio. Meghan Kelly is an amazing narrator that brings to life the emotions and characteristics of the characters in a book.

This book is another installment in the series. You can read/listen to this one without having read the others.

I loved the characters of this book. The twists and turns that happen in this book are great! I was not expecting some things to happen and when they did, I thought wow, that's good writing.

I listened to the audiobook, and I think the narrator does a fantastic job, which is important because a poor narrator can ruin a good book.
Hattie is a well-written book, and I didn’t want to take a break and I listened to it in one sitting. I highly recommend this book, and I look forward to reading more of Vivi Holt’s books.

Overcoming all obstacles

This is Hattie and Ed's story. A girl from a wealthy family who lost everything. A sheriff who rarely thought about a home and family. Will overcoming treachery and loss be enough to see them through?

Another great story

Wow! This character got put through the wringer....I'm impressed that she maintained her good attitude and spunk in a realistic way. A great match for her didn't seem possible but it all worked out in the end.

A Mail Order Bride story

that is the grittiest one I have ever read. Hattie leaves NYC to become a bride but one thing after another goes wrong. Can she end up with the right cowboy or will something else go wrong? Clean read.

Ms. Holt knows how to draw her reader in with these short story. I couldn’t even begin to think how these girls felt losing everything from their families money to the life as they know it all to be sent to marry a man they didn’t know. My heart really went out to them. I listened to this in a box set seeing how each girl had to deal with her own issues. They show how strong they are, what they are willing to do, to make a new life for them. As things start going well there is news from home that may change each girls feelings on their new life.

The narrator did a wonderful job really making you feel the emotion of each girl as she goes through some very trying times. Things are easy for these woman who give so much of their selves. The character voices are wonderful, you always know who is talking and what they are feeling. Her male and female voices are given with strength and character. There are no repeating of words, no background noise, no volume changes. If breaks were taken I could not tell. This is one narrator I know I will enjoy listening to each time I pick up one of her new audios. I really look forward to listening to her voice.

I really enjoyed the twists and turns as the author hooks you from the first page to the last. It doesn’t take long for these woman to feel tragedy one thing leads to another as the author spins a delightful tale with action, broken hearts, tragedy and a love that will warm your heart. It is a short sweet Christian romance filled with excitement.
