Fiona Davis is an amateur photographer and aspiring photojournalist who works part time at a rundown inn. She has spent most of her life in the small town of Starport, and while she may have had big dreams once, she has long since accepted her life as it is. Boring. Little did she know that this is about to drastically change forever... As the summer tourism season starts, Fiona prepares herself for another cycle of entitled guests and endless work hours. However, things take a strange turn, when a mysterious guest checks in and takes an interest in her. Before Fiona can figure out her true intentions, she finds the woman murdered on the beach. As if this wasn't enough to make things complicated, the victim also turns out to be none other than the world famous actress, Angelica Lorin...
Within a couple of hours, reporters descend on the inn looking for a scoop. The local police force is overwhelmed by the case and asks for the help of a neighboring department. The fact that Fiona found the body, coupled with Angelica's unexplained fascination with her, lead the police to take a special interest in her. Among those sent to help with the investigation is a jaded detective from the city, who is determined to solve the case no matter where the evidence may point to. Suddenly facing the necessity of proving her innocence, Fiona will now have to carry out her own search for the truth...
As more facts come to light about Angelica's troubled past, complicated life and fraught relationships, Fiona finds herself stumbling upon information that hits startlingly close to home. Finding answers to questions she had long ago given up on asking will shock her to her very core. Motivated to uncover the murderer like never before, can Fiona prove that she had nothing to do with Angelica's death? Or will the mounting evidence against her lead the police to arrest her before she can expose the real killer?
"Casting a Murderer" is an intriguing cozy mystery novel of approximately 60,000 words. No cliffhangers, just pure captivating mystery.
This book drew me in and held me delightfully-captive from beginning to end. The palpable tension held me in thrall. The plot kept me guessing. The characters were realistic, likable and identifiable. And, every setting was described in such a way as to make me feel like I was an actual bystander in that scene. Once I started reading this story, I knew this was a book I wasn’t going to be able to put down!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Fiona Davis is quietly working her dead end, entry level job as receptionist for a dumpy motel when she checks in a mysterious visitor. Why would international movie star, Angelica Loren, be checking in? The mystery deepens when Fiona finds Angelica dead on the beach. Finding herself as a prime suspect, Fiona embarks on finding out who killed this beautiful young woman. The list of possible suspects keeps growing and Fiona finds herself in danger. Cynthia Raye has done her usual good job of keeping you guessing, mostly wrong. This was fun to read.
She is a photographer living in a village. Things are pretty quiet and ordinary until a famous actress who has an interest in her is murdered. A lot of things point to her making her look guilty. They have a detective in the next town come to help with the case. An intriguing and diverse group of characters. A very good story and supporting characters. Exciting, emotional, suspenseful, twists and turns, surprises and much more. I received a review copy and voluntarily review it.
Bet she wants her boring life back. Fiona Davis may have thought her life was boring but add a little murder and that does take things up a notch. In walks, a city detective who not a trusting soul and facts kind up lead up making Fiona a suspect. What you will find in this mystery are awesome twists, secrets, and a serious need to find the real killer. I found the book was really good the plot, the character, and the flow was great this is a book I am happy to recommend.
This story had so much layers and definitions of family that it was like opening a present wrapped in multiple layers of wrapping paper and boxes. Angelica was a focal point that started a series of events that unraveled everything. I was shocked when I figured out her real deal with Fiona.
The mystery was multi-faceted. Who was the murderer; why was a movie star in this little, out of the way town; what was she looking for; who is the father of her baby; why did she connect with Fiona; how does a senator fit into the scheme of things? A lot of the answers aren't revealed until the end, which keeps one reading to the very last page.
This book was an engaging mystery with relatable characters and a good plot. There were surprises in the book such as the identity of the killer. I highly recommend this book to other mystery readers.
I enjoyed this book because it was an exciting story that was entertaining as well. The characters were very interesting and complex. I felt as if the characters were real and believable.
Fiona and her friend, Kerri, are determined to find out who killed the beautiful and very popular actress, Angelica. They have many false leads to follow but none pan out. Lots of possibilities. A very interesting story.
A good plot with twist and turns that makes for a very interesting who done it plot. It is worth the time to read and so you can figure out who is the killer. Enjoy the read.
