Nothing in the whole world felt better than Owen’s arms. In the early morning moonlight, I lay with my head on his chest, my arms around his waist, and his arms wrapped around my back. He was so big, strong, and protective I never wanted to be apart from him. And I knew in my heart like I knew the sun would rise that morning, he would forgive me for what my mother planned to do to him.
No—he wouldn’t forgive me. He’d never hold it against me to begin with. Just like I could never hold him accountable for what his father and grandfather had done before him. We were different from the people who brought us into the world. Better.
Owen wasn’t just tall, smart, and handsome—he had a soul, and that was a million times more important to me. I’d spent my whole life watching ruthless people destroy each other like pigs fighting in the mud. More than once, I’d been a captive audience, an innocent bystander struck by the filth of the endless feeding frenzy. I’d never been able to protect myself, and maybe I still couldn’t, but I could protect him.
To do that, to spare Owen the pain I’d known, I had to be sharp, strong, and act alone. As I lay there, enjoying the warmth of the only loving embrace I’d ever known, I knew I had to act before I changed my mind. Tilting my head back, I kissed the line of his handsome jaw and slowly rolled away from him...

The book had all the elements for a intriguing romantic suspense, but failed miserably. It’s start out with a bang. At first it caught my interest, but it didn’t hold it. By Chapter 13, I just couldn’t read on, as the storyline wasn’t capturing my attention. Though, I few hours later I did skip to read the last chapter and epilogue, which leaves the readers wondering. I wasn’t buying Heather and Owen’s instant lust and was turned off by them immediately having sex - gross they hadn’t even showered before their romp. I can only imagine how gross their bodies would have been after their earlier life threatening incident at sea. Plus, no mention of birth control, which is just irresponsible between two strangers. The storyline with was too political and ruthless. The scene with the Coast Guard was unbelievable and disrespectful to this upstanding military organization.
Heather Carrington is being taken to a facility that shouldn’t exist, but then, neither should she. The daughter of an affair between her mother and her mother’s boss, a senator, Heather has been the exact opposite of her parent’s for as long as she can remember. But the arrest for protesting in Colorado was the final straw for them. Now she’s on a boat heading for a facility on an island that’s supposedly been shut down for years. When there’s drama aboard the boat, and that drama ends with the boat ending up on with a hole and stuck on the rocks near Whisper Cove, Heather’s able to get off, just before the explosion rocks the area. Owen Kelly, mayoral candidate, is out for his daily jog when he happens to see a woman in a lifeboat struggling. Swimming out to meet her, he pulls the boat to safely. Taking her in and getting her to the sheriff, Logan Fox, to report what happened. But Owen is just more than a mayoral candidate, he’s also the town lawyer, and reno guy. Currently working and staying at a friend’s Victorian house in town while he completely redoes it, he takes Heather there until they can figure out how to help her. But Heather can help Owen more than he can help her, it turns out that the man running against him was placed there by her father’s company so that they can take over the town. Yes, a big, bad, evil corporation wants to take over the town and will do anything, including arson, theft, etc. to get it. Will Heather and Owen be able to stop them from taking over the town? Will Owen get elected? Can Owen protect Heather from her well connected family bent on putting her away so their secrets aren’t exposed? You have to read this story to find out!! I truly enjoyed this story, it’s well written, with wonderful characters (my favorite was Mrs. Tuttle). You don’t have to read the books in order, but why wouldn’t you? They’re great reads so far. **I read using my Kindle Unlimited Subscription
Book two in the series and you do need to read them in the correct order in my opinion as book 2 happens at the same time as the end events of book one.
Owen stole my heart with his love, loyalty, caring nature and devotion, I did want to smack him over the head a few times but he redeemed himself. Romance, politics, plotting greed, secrets, lies suspense, family issues, relationships, friendships, chemistry and a boat load of courage to face up to the past and personal fears = a good read for me.
I'm looking forward to book 3 to see Avery and Caleb finally see what's standing in front of them...I hope whoever the author's have planned for Logan is someone who knocks him on his a*** as I think it'll do him the world of good! 😆

Heather is being exhiled so not to spoil her mothers and unknown fathers very important political campaign. The problem is being shipwrecked. Owen just happened to be running by and helping Mrs. Tuttle when he saw her ferry go down, saving her and launching her into Whisper Cove.
This book kind of hand me scratching my head. It was full of chemistry, and steamy scenes which made the book great, but the drama had me confused. Such as the opening reason to what happened on the ferry or what happened with the will from Mrs. Tuttle. And the mayor campaign sort of passed in a bit of a blur.
For this I give it three stars. I liked parts.

Second book in the Whisper Cove series and just as gripping and entertaining as the first. We met Owen in the first book and this is his and Heathers story. Heather is on the run from her mother and father after they try to put her away to prevent the problems she is causing them. Unfortunately Owen is causing them problems as well and when he and Heather become close it only makes their situation even more dangerous.

I really enjoyed Heather and Owen's story!! It's well written with some intriguing twists and turns. Very captivating new addition to the "Whisper Cove" series. It's a stand alone story that is definitely worth reading. I loved Heather and Owen and some of the secondary characters; especially Mrs. Tuttle. He is so caring and giving! Heather is likable as well. I love how he rescues her and things heat up quickly. The story-line is great with romance, suspense, mystery and great twists and turns. I cannot wait to read "Shipwreck Lane" to see what happens next in this small town.
I’ve read several books written by Allison LaFleur; she has done a good job at writing a good book. She is becoming one of my favorite authors and I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
