My breath caught in my throat as his musk washed over me. Caleb. My Caleb, here. In my bedroom. I froze as he pushed off the doorway and stalked towards me. The tingling inside me suddenly blossomed into something more. I pushed that thought down deep.
He moved like a panther, coming closer and closer until he stood inches away. His dark eyes focused on me. As always, he hid the scarred side of his face in the shadows.
“Those for me?” He reached out and took the pillow and blanket from my trembling hands, ducking his head to hide his scars, and turned toward the living room, Kessler at his heels.
Dumbstruck, I stood by the bed until he called out from the living room. “Where do you want me to set up my computer?”
I shook off my unexpected lust, tamping it down and putting it back in the box I had kept it in since coming to Whisper Cove. The day Polly quit and I convinced Harry to let sixteen year old me wait tables was the day I locked the old me away and became the Avery Gray I now was. The old me--she didn’t exist anymore. Her important papers, birth certificate, ID, and everything else was stuffed in a slit in the bottom of my mattress or shoved in a box in the back of a closet, and hadn’t seen the light of day in years. The new me--well, she knew something as foolish as a fling with a handsome local boy was a risk she couldn’t take.
My fingers tingled when I touched Caleb, and I couldn’t stop thinking about what he said. He’d called my pajamas sexy. Does he think I’m sexy?
I didn’t care about the racoon or whatever it had really been. I didn’t think for a minute Caleb pulled out his KA BAR for a racoon, but the butterflies in my stomach wouldn’t let me be upset. My steps slowed as I put one foot in front of the other, each one taking me closer and closer to my living room. Caleb’s boots clunked behind me as the rubber soles hit each tread, mimicking the beat of my heart. I could hear it pounding in my ears, and my hand grew warm as I held his calloused fingers in mine.
I took a deep breath, my breasts rising under my black silk camisole as I crossed the threshold into my small apartment. For the first time since I met him, I found myself wondering what this soldier thought of me.

This is a hard book to review, as I liked much of this book, but was turned off in some parts. From the first two books, I got to know Avery as an independent, in your face bar owner, that is extremely loyal to her friends. One friend, Caleb, she wants more than friendship. Caleb is disfigured from the war, has serious PTSD, and lives a lonely life with his dog. He has mad computer skills and is financially well off. He knows Avery has a past, but like him, she guards her secrets. That ends when someone from her past is obviously after her. Caleb steps in to protect her, but can’t fully give her the support she needs due to him still suffering from his war days. These two lost souls finally give into their attraction and hot scenes follow. The change in their relationship doesn’t end the horror that follows Avery or end Caleb’s nightmares. What I didn’t like was direction the author took with a cult and an extremely violent villain. I literally skipped a couple of graphic chapters. Also, the cover of the book, shows a man with no facial scars, and that certainly isn’t Caleb. Like with the previous books, some parts just don’t add up. The ending and epilogue are entertaining and captured my attention to continue with this series.
Good story at first I was wondering where this was going and why the heroine ran away from home at such a young age and when we find out why.
And out hero had an alcoholic father and was very responsible at a young age he joined the military and was hurt and relies on his combat dog. This was an enjoyable story and the romance is pretty slow burning. I voluntarily received an arc copy through Booksprout for my honest review

A wonderful well written intense story. This suspensful stoyline had me engaged throughout. It has drama, lots of twists and turns, threats, vandalism, and at times emotional. The characters both come frome troubled pasts that they end up facing together that ignites the attraction and chemistry that they tried to ignore. This enjoyable standalone is part of a series with cameos from previous characters in a town that is like a family. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC.

I had a hard time finishing this book. The writing wasn't bad and was even quite good in a lot of areas, but the storyline and half the details felt anywhere from improbable to ridiculous, and the main characters seem to be suffering from split personalities.
However, the chemistry between Caleb and Avery was sizzling and deserved more than 3 stars.

In this installment of the Whisper Cove series, we have Abby and Caleb’s story. I have to say, I liked their story the most, by far. Both are damaged psychologically, one from war and one from a cult, and their love for each other make them strong enough to finally start to deal with their past. When seventeen year old Caleb found sixteen year old Abby searching through the dumpsters behind Harry’s Bar one night, he never thought that years later he would wind up with her. Through the years they each fantasized about it, but neither got up the nerve to act on their desires. They were each too damaged, and they didn’t want to bring the other into the mess that was their lives. But when a string of terrifying vandalisms takes place at Harry’s Bar, now owned by Abby, Caleb swears to protect her. Setting up cameras throughout the restaurant, plus the hidden one, still doesn’t catch the madman bent on returning Abby to her hometown, and when she goes missing, Caleb jumps into action. With the help of their friends, Caleb needs to find and save Abby before the madman takes his revenge on her running away from the cult. This book is full of action, romance, and the passion that Allison LaFleur and Beneva Clark are known for. This series does not need to be read in order, but with it being in KU, why wouldn’t you? I can’t wait to start on the next book!!
Caleb and Avery both come from troubled pasts. He growing up with a drunken father and having to work to pay the rent. Avery ran away from something really bad, but it isn’t revealed what until later in the book. They both end up working at a bar in Whisper Cove, ME and the owner leaves it to her in his will. Caleb makes out well financially on investments after spending years in the military, so he doesn’t need Harry’s bar. But that doesn’t stop him from hanging out there. He spends even more time after Avery starts getting threats and vandalism and they fall into a relationship together. I thought she brushed off the threats too quickly when she knew the crazy they were probably from. She shouldn’t have fought Caleb on installing security cameras. His moments of post traumatic stress are upsetting and do disrupt the story flow at times. There were several intense moments in this book as their pasts catch up with them.
I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I really enjoyed this story about Caleb and Avery. She's running and needs to get away from her past. Caleb finds her dumper diving and helps get out. This begins their crazy friendship. Fast forward and Caleb is a scarred from an explosion and he's hiding. He lets Avery in but still at arms length. Avery is still cautious. When things start happening at the bar that came be explained Caleb offers to protect her. Their relationship grows. But both of their past come to a screeching collision. Like the characters.

This is a new author to me and so I haven’t read any of the previous books in this series. This plot has 2 injured souls who are drawn together, the separate only to find themselves drawn back together after a few years. Avery needs help and Caleb is going to help her, the romance is a slow burn one as they both allow their own history to be a wedge between them. The story has lots of twists, drama and emotions that make this a page-turner. I spent a lovely couple of hours reading this book cover to cover. This book was amazing to read. It took awhile into the book to know why this 14yr old was escaping her home, but the time it took was worth it. Avery was a very brave young girl to do what she did to survive. Caleb survived war with horrible consequences, but he did survive. That these two worked together and faced unknown terrors was something. The storyline was intense but oh so good. A very good book worth reading.

This book has a captivating storyline that grabs you right from the start keeping you engrossed and on edge throughout the whole book! Intensely sensuous, wrought with emotion, and so well written that I absolutely could not put it down! It is complete with its very own HEA, however, secondary characters are interconnected with other books in the series. Each book can be read as a standalone or they can be read in order of publication for maximum pleasure *wink, wink*

I don't know what to say about this book that I haven't already said about the others in the series. I sat and read it from start to finish. Now I wish I hadn't so I could read it for the first time again. I loved finding out Avery and Caleb's story. It explained so much after reading about them in the previous books. Now I can't wait for the next in the series.

This is the third book in the Whisper Cove Series. This was a pretty amazing book that was overflowing with emotion and suspense. Avery and Caleb were both wounded people with a lot of terror in their past. I was able to keep up even though I hadn't read the first two books in the series. The book is intense, overflowing with explosive chemistry and full of drama. I read an arc and voluntarily chose to review.
She comes to their town when she is young and she is scared and everything. She does alot and it's made her better. He is in the military and he is now home due to injuries and discharged. They seem to be a great couple. I loved their chemistry and how they are together. I loved how the town is a family. I love this series and I hope that there is another one soon

Avery and Caleb both had truly tragic backgrounds to deal with which made it difficult for them to trust or develop relationships with others. The story was very interesting with some extremely impressive characters. I hope Becca and Logan are featured in book four. Excellent read!

Great read. This was fast paced, interesting. It had a great storyline and wonderful broken characters. Will they be able to overcome their pasts and find happiness with each other? It is worth the read. I received it from booksprout and voluntarily left my review.
I didn't really care for this book. It just read too matter of fact. Even though Avery met Caleb all those years ago when he found her, we skip forward to now, but I don't really see the impact of how those years have shaped their relationship. Somehow everyone knows they have the hots for each other, but they both don't want to get involved for their own reasons. When they are together, I felt like it was more sex-driven than connection too. Caleb is real protective and sweet, but I have a hard time connecting with Avery even with her past influencing her decision now.
We met Avery and Caleb in the previous books but now so much of their actions in the past takes meaning. They both have faced hardship and are so incredibly brave but learning to trust in one another is something new and exciting even if they weren't certain. It's an amazing read and I couldn't put it down.

Book three is Avery and Caleb's story, it answered a lot of questions I had about these two and had me in tears at times. It was sad, heartbreaking, sweet and full of emotion. You do need to read this series in order, this installment has become my new favourite. I'm looking forward to the next one, and the one after that :-)

I really enjoyed this new "Whisper Cove" story! It's well written with some wonderful characters. I love Avery and Caleb! Both have suffered in their past and are drawn to each other. They are so perfect for each other. This is a touching and suspenseful story. I really love this small town and the dynamics of the people there.
