Pronounce It Perfectly In French (Pronounce it Perfectly CD Packages)

Rate this book
This revised and updated language program emphasizes the importance of pronouncing French words and phrases so that the speaker can be understood by the French and French Canadians. It presents exercises in sound discrimination and accurate sound creation--for example instructing in pronunciation of French vowel sounds and nasals such as eu and oei, which many English speakers find especially difficult to master. Words and sounds are put into a variety of conversational contexts for students of French to practice and perfect. This new edition provides the added convenience of audio compact discs to replace the old tape cassettes. The book has been updated to include the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) as a pronunciation guide.

Best way to learn to pronounce French when you haven't a teacher to teach you. Used this as a middle-schooler and remarkably improved my accent. If I were to use it now as a young adult, being more aware and mature, I wouldn't be surprised if it were to fix the few flaws I have left in my pronunciation.

I believe, as some reviewers at Amazon say, that the book/CD is flawed, but only marginally. It is not designed to teach French but rather to assist in pronunciation skills. It does this quite well. The combinations of sounds derived from the French vowels can be overwhelming not to mention the never pronounced (H), the almost-never pronounced consonant endings and the nasal and aspirated letters.

It is sort of clumsy in a medium such as a Zune, but used on a medium such as Windows Media Player it works fine.

I find it very useful that the book includes riddles, tongue twisters, poetry and fragments of French literature. Could there be more? Yes but for around $16 it is a bargain to me.

I wish that I had something similar for Russian language.
