Three strikes and your out. Author dropped!
I like the Gryffin story until book 3, until it got too exaggeretef. Strikes one. Checked out Cyber Viking (i knew from the title that story would suck, but tries for the characters and harem), MC is a piece of shit. DNF. Strike 2. And this book?!?! It had an 3 hour fishing story fishing arc. Oh yeah, and it covered by a reality show element aswell - Jesus! Almost guit, but the start of likeable dragon girl and what happened to her cry for a hero had waiting and waiting. After 9 hour the MC has the first real conversation. At this point i don't care anymore and quit as other random events continue. Like Cyber Viking the MC is a macho type, womanizing, that acts like and idiot but everything just works out. Before he went to the alternative world, he find a ex girl Who he gets pregnenet and descides to marry. Great start before he even starts a harem. Piece of shit! Everything is so exaggereted, all character lecherous cheater including all girls and even his friend. And yes the friends are with him all the time. The friends and everyone accept that the MC meet a god right away, they now wanna join the battle the first day he metions it. Everything is so annoying with this book. Even the narrator, which i usually like sounds like a pompous bratty old vampire. I hate this book. Strike 3. You out!

Well … I gave the book two stars because there are a number of interesting concepts that I wished had been explored further but sadly are just there to feed the fantasy of a male ego and ward off criticism about sexist portrayals and objectification of body parts. The idea of living in a far distant future where everyone is watched 24/7 by drone cameras for your own real-life version of a YouTube show/channel has a lot of potential but this is not really explored in the book and functions as an excuse for how the MC can afford things. Also, though it’s never explained, everyone seems to have some degree of cybernetic implants in them that facilitate and monitor social interactions. This is primarily expressed as all the women giving consent for their intimate encounters with the MC, but we are also told it’s used to keep people from assaulting each other and monitoring health conditions. Again, very interesting concepts that are not explored at all. Basically, the people of the 26th century are living in a full on 24/7 monitored state across the entire Galaxy and there’s no discussion of what that potentially means … but … they still have cat videos and use slang terms from the 90s and 00s. So … yeah … there’s a lot to be disappointed in when it comes to the portrayal of the future in this book.
Now, that said, the concept of the litRPG format is kind of minimal in its presentation and again thus far only serves as an excuse to give the MC money. Everyone the MC knows is just willing to go along with what’s happening and doesn’t have any depth. It’s very disappointing… in fact, the lack of uniqueness to any of the characters is probably the most disappointing part of the book. There are also long sections of exposition dumps - like the Minotaur god/goddess explaining the “ages” of the universe which doesn’t really go anywhere. Also, I completely failed yo understand the fi do chapter … so, yeah. So much potential but nothing of substance really.
Why should I care about the MC? He appears to be the basic “buff alpha male” who is a heavy drinker, a jerk, and well endow so he can use women and drop them … why would the “creator” bless him as a chosen one? Makes me think the author grew up being picked on by bullies and decided to make his main character one with a weakness for hour glass shaped women. There is no one to cheer for in this book … no one on this planet named after a soda company does anything nice or kind but the characters have to compete to prevent plagues and natural disasters… and when one occurs in the book it’s not even on their planet and somehow I’m supposed to believe that the MC cares???? We have not seen him care or do anything heroic. His actions are all self focused and about him.
So overall, disappointing. Yeah. The book was disappointing because there were lots of great ideas but none of it was believable.

Interesting Premise and World, but Unsatisfying
The story and world building were good. The protagonist lacked any impact to me. Also, the relationships were too free spirited and he wasn't a strong center of the harem. He puts almost no effort into the relationships until he suddenly has a page's worth of an emotional breakthrough with a potential beau. My guilty pleasure is slice of life in harem stories, because I love seeing the relationships displayed. This only has boring minutiae; half of which involves the protagonist's former or potential lovers. Part of what makes this so unsatisfying is that he passed most of the former and potential lovers (whom the story spent so much time on) on to other men. I don't like stories where the protagonist instantly and effortlessly conquers every single female in the story, but this protagonist does almost the opposite, and passes them off. The story is one scene of him sharing his pregnant wife someone outside of their relationship away from being about free love. It's barely a harem story, and much closer to polyamory, except that the harem members stay true to the protagonist being the center of the relationship.

Okay so this was my first book by this author. I am pretty picky about any book that has harem elements to it. I should also qualify this by saying that I am pretty generous with star ratings. I don't like receiving poor ratings and think that a couple of upset people with 1 star ratings and disproportionately affect the over all rating. I pretty much give 5 star to anything that I enjoyed enough to finish- but the real meat of what I though is in the comments below.
Pros:
1) I felt like the MC is well developed. He develops an early electrical power that he doesn't understand at first but which helps him start out fairly OP. He also is the kind of guy who goes all out if he is in a do or die situation. I don't mine an MC being cautious but I hate it when they hold back in a situation where they die if they fail. I appreciate getting to see a good amount of his background and what I will call seeing him in his natural environment.
2) I felt like the female characters were their own people and not just there for the MC. You might not like everything about everyone one of them but how is that any different from the real world. I for one appreciate that in character design.
3) The adult interaction elements of the book were not heavy handed and honestly could be skipped if they bother you.
4) I thought the overall set up of the maze and the attitude of the gods was interesting. I am not saying it has never been done before but it definitely had its own flavor.
Cons:
1) This is highly subjective and just a personal opinion but I would have liked to see a little less fishing. I did like seeing the fishing and getting to know Dean but maybe a little less. That would have helped us get to the Maze and more of the litrpg elements faster. I am just used to more crunch and more game stats sooner in the game.

Main character, Dean is an accountant, that is more like a space-other-world-porn- "Indiana Jones". This first book of this urban-fantasy novel series is all over the place: Fishing for gigantic sea monsters, tower dungeons, horse and cow farms, meeting the family, getting engaged, getting the fiancé pregnant, multi-polyamorous relations, etc. etc. etc. With all the sex (unless all the sex is the main theme of the story), I still think it lacks a main theme, it lacks cohesion and organization. There is no relation to the different parts of this story, so it kind of doesn't make much sense.
The only thing common in all the different parts of this story, is Dean, main character wanting to have sensual liaisons and having crude sex with every woman, beast-kin, female monster he encounters...There is no sensuality, no romance, no actual seduction and Dean, main character, does not have physical, emotional or special skills or abilities to be able to seduce every female he encounters in this story (either).
So, one can say this is a lot of sex with stories that don't make much sense and don't have anything to do with each other...Story could be better a lot better. No maps, no character summaries, no character descriptions (except the females curves, body parts, and sensual situations)...

A really cool concept and great start to a new series
I have read the Cyber Vikings series and loved it. This is different and just as engrossing. The world building and character development is amazing. Lot's of little side plots that will come to fruition at some point in the future. Love world building? Love Gods being Gods and being well, fickle? Love a main hero who is awesome but has some serious character flaws that cause some interesting events to occur? If you have answered yes to any (or all of these), then buy this now! If you didn't say yes, buy it anyway. You won't be upset.

Just your kicking fisherman
Like a soft but hard guy, this was done extremely well...too well...got yelled at because didn't sleep and finished just to finish it. Dean, your not so average Fisherman, fight his internal demons while off hours but "work hours" has to fight literal demons who want to win the prize. Yeah it's got a harem element but it is done well
. Looking for his read with light litrpg this is it.
You need to tell Marcus to get moving and get the next book OUT NOW lol

Very confusing
I wanted to like this book, I really did, but it was incredibly hard to follow. I was confused for most of it. Characters were all over the place, and I couldn't keep up with the pacing. The author also clearly combined too many genres into one which ended up into one big mess.

Ok book
A fisherman kills a monster and becomes a champion. Super slow buildup. They don't go into the normal dungeon until 85% into the book. He makes a lot of mistakes since he is a simple man and recovering drunk male slut. Lots of mistakes. Also, he's too soft which hinted at more mistakes. Most of the book he has a crappy team to support him.

Almost intetating
Plot has interesting elements but was bogged down in long sections of world and game mechanic explanations that are simply mind numbing.
By the end I found I had not been drawn in to the story and had no urge to know more about the characters.

A GOOD READ
An interesting way to start the story. I had to double check that hadn't opened a different book. But the story flowed well and I was hooked, so to speak. An neat premise and good character build. Looking forward to the next one.

Very Interesting series
This series the Minotaur's Maze. Is a very interesting take on GamLit. With great characters in it. As all Marcus Sloss books do. I'm really looking forward to reading book two.

Good book!
Good book. Easy read. Good story and interesting characters. Different take on a gaming world. Book 2 should start to clarify team builds.

DNF in under 20 pages
Can't tell if it pissed me off, or creeped me out more.
When the stakes are death or your mom becomes a sex slave,... I'm out.

Author needs to learn "in medias res". An hour in and I never even made it to the first plot point before giving up.
