Darkness Within #1

Eternal Seduction

Rate this book
After living on the streets of New York for over a decade, Logan admits her perceptions might be a little skewed. But twisted or not, there's a satisfying irony in watching a well dressed vampire stand in the middle of a ghetto alley, windblown trash scraping circles near his feet. What she finds even more intriguing, is waiting for him to decide if he's going to kill her.

Kerestyan hasn't made up his mind. As the Lord of New York, he can't let a drug addict, whose memories are packed with knowledge of vampires, run free in his city. It's not the first time he's been in this situation with a human, it's just the first time he's come face to face with one who doesn't seem to care. And that's what makes the decision so difficult.

What horrors could you witness before you went numb? How long would it take before you felt that way? What could make you care again?

Logan's answers are simple: the worst humanity has to offer, almost thirty, and something she never expected.

If you're a paranormal or urban fantasy fan, you need to drop what you're doing and arrange to get your hands on this book NOW. "Eternal Seduction" by Jennifer Turner is one of the best paranormal/urban fantasy romance/close to erotica books I've read...ever. Not sure if it's the gritty reality, the flawed yet redeemable main characters, the compelling secondary cast, the dark humor, or the fascinating complexity, but this story sucked me right into the author's world and I'm still a little bit there.

The heroine in this book? A drug-addicted homeless thief whose life experiences have resulted in a wall between her and everyone else. She's NOT perfect...not even close. Duh, she's an addict. That means she's underweight, dirty, pseudo-amoral, and uncaring about almost everything. Yet she's also compelling in that way that only skilled authors can depict.

Our hero? Well, he's the Lord of New York. An impossibly ancient vampire, the 'son' of a primeval being whose life and history surpass human knowledge. Is he an Alpha? Well...yes and no. His 'beast' can certainly become that and for a being who could raze a city in a hand span of time, how can he be less than Alpha? Yet at times he's also terribly 'human', conscious of himself and his feelings and striving to temper his strength and control to allow others the choices they need.

While the 'story' itself is typical paranormal, the execution is far from it. I could go on all day, but then those of you reading this wouldn't have time to get your own copy. As soon as I finished, I went looking for the next book but it's not scheduled for publication until May 2009 and is titled "Eternal Hearts". If it's anywhere as good as this one, I'll be one VERY happy camper. But don't take my word for it, find out for yourself.

This book is a 5 star book until the last 30 or so pages. The author did an incredible job of introducing the readers to all the characters in the book and setting up the storyline.

That is part of the problem! She only introduces the reader and sets up the storyline and we are then almost to the end of the book. In the last 30 or so pages, Ms. Turner quickly tries to resolve all the issues and conclude the story (in a kind of disappointing way).

So, why the 4 stars? I loved the book and found myself very caught up in the book and everything that was going on with the story. It seemed to me that there was a page limit for the author and she was forced to cut her own story off. I think the series has great potential and even with the cut off ending, I was happy I invested my time in the book.

There was one significant hole in the story but it may only bug me so it is not worth getting into.

Overall: Very enjoyable. I think book 2 will be much better since, hopefully, the author will be able to not only setup the story but also write the story to its completion.

Totally new take on the vampire romance typical genre. Logan is not the same ole same ole stereotypical heroine and Kerestyan is not the typical vampire hero and the story is fresh and the characters are hilarious! My goodness, Kerestyan's bother Oli is a HOOT! I swear I must have laughed hysterically out loud over 50 times during the course of the book. I was so excited when I found out that the author is planning to write a series in which this is Ms. Turner's debut book. What a great beginning to the series! Can't say enough good things about this writer's first novel. Please give us the second installment soon, can't wait to read it, and if it's anything like this one it will be a very satisfying book indeed. Read it you'll be laughing in fits and loving every second of it. Highly recommend it.

I love it when I find a book that has all my favorite elements, but stands out from the rest!

Logan Ellis is a homeless, heroine addict who, over the past several weeks, keeps running into vampires. She manages to "live and let live" until one night ...

She meets Kerestyan Nelek, Lord of New York Vamps, and he cannot decide what to do with Logan. She's not reacting as he'd expected and, even though he should, he doesn't kill her for her knowledge of vampires' existence.

The book caption "What horrors would you have to witness before you went numb? How many years would it take for you to feel that way? What would it take to make you care again?

Logan’s answers are simple: the worst humanity has to offer, almost thirty…and something she never expected.
" is a perfect description of the relationship that builds love and breaks down walls for them both.

The family is full of wonderfully real, funny, interesting characters. Kerestyan's brother Odin is hilarious (as is his back-n-forth with Logan); their father, Lord Nelek, has a force you can almost feel; Raze, Kerestyan's Paladin enforcer with a conscience and Vouclade, the physician & brother.

One of many favorite quotes:
"So is it always night time here?"
"Always... Dad doesn't like the big ball of fire in the sky so he blocks it out. He's never been a fan of not being able to walk through his home at any given moment just because a star doesn't like him."

The explanation of vampire history/creation in this book is also different and interesting.

I'm so glad the book is (A Darkness Within #1) b/c that means there'll be a book 2!

EDIT:

I checked out Jennifer Turner's website and chapters 1-3 of her next book "Eternal Hearts" due in "early 2010" are posted here! Loved the little bit part Drake played in this book. And, I already have great quote from chapter 1: "Unfortunately for her, he’d left his heart in a different shirt and his give-a-shit was broken. :)

I am sorry to say this, but I can't finish this book!

Reasons I don't like it[between us I don't think that I like anything about it]:
-the heroine: she is an idiot, with capital I. And her name reminds me of X-men, Wolverine more exactly. I can't read a book that I keep thinking of a dude when actually it's a chick.
-the plot: uhm... sorry to brake it to you, but there is no plot. Nothing happens. The short description of the book would be: <And that sums up 50% of the book and I'm not kidding!
-the writing style: there was something that grated on me but I can't point it out.

This image sums my feelings for the book very good:

Love Love Love this one!
I could not put this book down. It was gripping from beginning to end. There is nothing conventional nor predictable about this book. I loved all the characters in this one equally. They all bring something intense, intriguing, hilarious, or just flat out sexy no matter how brief their presence.

There is one character I really want to know more about though.. Drake.. I plan on getting the second in this series soon. Hopefully it will continue to get better and better.
I highly recommend this read.

According to my Kindle I only made it 55% of the way through this book. While I thought the blurb had promise, I quickly found that the story was as flat as the heroine's chest. And ass, apparently. As we learn... in great detail.

This is one of those books that tries to make a genre stew, clumsily incorporating every possible particle and cliche that it could, and grinding it up into a pasty representation of PNR, which it then crams down our throat in a constant repeating loop of cutesy barfiness. Dragons, ghosts, werewolves, vampires, huge dark castles, people vanishing into puffs of smoke, ancient eyeless sires, and none of it particularly well done.

SPOILERS:

While I am no stranger to books that stretch the limits of the typical imagination, there were some things that I found myself rolling my eyes at.

"I'm going to give you an option here, I can fix your body the normal way with vitamins and food. OR I can magically zap you all better and HEY, there's that ass you've been missing so much, you homeless freak of nature."

Why was this even an option?

First rule of writing, kill your darlings.

Make the bitch suffer!

This book, much like another particular vampire book that will remain nameless, gives the ragged edges of real fiction a bad name. Everything that could have and should have been a positive and interesting addition to real character development was glazed over in the easiest possible way for all those involved.

Withdrawal from heroin? Here's a special tonic to make it go faster, made from special herbs that don't grow outside our magical castle. Oh, and here's some screwing now that you're awake, pasty mouthed, and sweat-soaked. Mmmm....

Killed your sister? It's okay, she would have died anyway, and in a far worse way than being run over by a car.

Skinny, malnourished, and possibly cancerous? Take heart, that's a two minute fix... tops!

In the end I gave it a second star for the simple fact that I DID like a few of the characters, and some of the dialogue was entertaining.

I feel like it's become okay to lay waste to a genre that was once so clean and compelling. I came into this book for the vampires. I didn't need all the crazy magic, dragons, shifting people, ghosts, talking dogs, magic fixes, and other BS that I got.

I completely devoured this book. Loved it from the first page to the very last. Logan is such an inspiration, how she went through such a shitty life and still had a sense of humour and whit about her. She's everything a female heroine should be. I loved how even though she was faced with first of all the Lord of New York, but didn't really care and gave him all the snark she could. Then she's faced with his 'Father' and the possibility that she could be facing death, she just didn't care and gave him just as much snark. It was so refreshing and you could tell that they both found it refreshing and amusing to boot.

Odin... where do I even start. He's awesome in every degree. When I first started reading I asked my friend who recommended the book... is Odin gay? She told me no. But He just reminds me of this really camp man with a big mouth... the 'bond' if you can call it that, between Logan and himself had me cracking up constantly.... they really would be best friends if they didn't hate each other so much.

Syn the wolf... I want one, thats all I can say about him.

Basically this is one of the best books I've read in along time, I think because underneath the whit and the funny, there is a serious storyline. We see a woman who has had a really shitty life go from strength to strength and learn that maybe the grass is greener on the other side, that there is people in the world who can care for her and love her and that most importantly she's capable of returning that love, albeit in her own way.

If you have this book on your shelf or on your kindle/nook,then get reading, you won't be disappointed!

It is a surprisingly good book. Not just another vampire story. I have expected more sex and less plot and I'm glad I was wrong.

First, Logan is not your typical heroine. She is addicted to drugs, she has her past which is really dark. And she is nearly emotionless. We are used to the male characters lacking in this department but a cool heroine is still something new and refreshing. And even though Kerestyan is fascinated with her from the beginning, which is not I usually like, it didn't really bother me. And I really liked the interaction between Logan and Odin.

The plot is not very developed but it doesn't make the story boring at all. The new world is interesting enough.

I will give a chance to the other books in this series.

M/F, Paranormal, Vampires, Magic, Addiction, New York

Why I read it:
The author sent me a copy for review

Storyline:
Street waif Logan meets the vampire Lord of New York, Kerestyan, while she shouldn’t have because she’s not supposed to know about vampires. He’s intrigued by her and takes her under his wings. An entirely new world unfolds for Logan as Kerestyan and his family train her to be a full-fledged member of this world. Meanwhile she and Kerestyan are smexin’ it up, first out of pure lust but later, when feelings become part of the sexy time, it gets more complicated.

My opinion in short:
I loved this book. The main characters fascinated me from the first to the last page and so did the secondary characters. The world that Ms Turner has built is compelling, intriguing, rather complex but not overwhelmingly so and it’s adding a new dimension to my (not very extended) paranormal reading experience. Kerestyan is uber sexy and as desirable as romance heroes can be. Logan is an amazing heroine and exactly how I like my heroines. My only niggle was that this book encompassed a lot of information typical for a first installment of a new series. Somewhere in the middle of the story I got a wee bit bored, not too much though, with all the world-building that was going on. Especially since this took place while Logan and Kerestyan were apart. And I started longing for the moment they would get to see each other again. Aside from that I just gulped it all down like an eager alcoholic, needing my fix of this delicious world. I know the author has more installments in this series to come, in fact she already has written a few more books but is dealing now to get them published, which is taking some time. I hardly can wait for the next book to be finally released.

What’s more to know about this book:
Characters
Really, there’s not a thing I didn’t like about Logan and Kerestyan and their character development. Both are pure of heart, good persons, but with flaws. And that makes them interesting, Logan perhaps a little bit more than Kerestyan. But I utterly fell for him too. He’s sexy, devoted, caring, bad-ass, in control, powerful and sweet all in one. I loved that he knew what he wanted, had no doubts about his feelings and instinctively did the right things to win Logan’s stony heart. And Logan is such an atypical heroine with a great attitude and sense of humor; I couldn’t find one thing that irritated me about her. Her banters with Kerestyan’s brother Odin were hilarious.
POV
The point of view is alternating between Logan and Kerestyan in third person. I liked that it was not switching back and forth from paragraph to paragraph but that the POV stayed with one of them for a longer time (a whole chapter).
Plot
The opening of the book is strong, in mid-action, and we’re getting a very good idea of what kind of (unusual) heroine we’re dealing with. Additionally, we don’t have to wait long before the hero and heroine meet. From there on the plot stays suspenseful and well-paced. The world-building is done gradually with the exception of a moment in the middle of the story when a lot of information is been released on Logan (and the reader) during her training. I became a little bit impatient there because I wanted Kerestyan back in the picture with her.
The story is not really plot driven, but more character driven, which works wonderfully with such fabulous characters as this story has (including the secondary characters).
Smexing
M/F. The sex scenes are very, very steamy. The chemistry between Logan and Kerestyan is sizzling and gets only better as their relationship progresses. The sexy moments develop from hot sex scenes to still scorching love scenes, eventually with a bite. And, wow, talk about turning into a beast in the bedroom!
Writing style
Ms Turner’s writing is precise, to the point, polished and has very entertaining dialogues. The humor and sharp-wittedness in this book are a delight. Here’s Logan on one of the first pages of the book:

Great. She was being stereotyped by a vampire. She made a mental note to return the favor at the first available opportunity before shooting him a sideways glare.

Favorite quote:
When Kerestyan asks Logan:

“What happened to make you see the world the way you do?”
Silence stung the air as she lowered her eyes to the floor. She stared down at the tiles for a few moments before she turned to give him her profile, a breathtaking masterpiece of haunted distance. “There’s a moment when you realize all your worst fears have come true. When the fat girl stuffing her face in the corner finally recognizes food gives her the comfort she can’t find in anyone else. When the gorgeous man with the body of a God realizes he changes women like shoes because he’s scared one won’t find enough reason to stay. When you see the world for what it really is, see it for all the horrors the news can’t or won’t report. There’s a moment when you realize and accept that you are the worthless piece of shit your father always said you were, because even a diseased crack‐head wouldn’t kill their own sister. It was a moment, Kerestyan, a defining moment…an epiphany of imperfection.”

MICHELLE'S REVIEW:

RATING: 4.5 KERESTYAN IS IN THE HOUSE STARS!!!

I made a couple bold moves this year. I approached two authors, Tim O’Rourke author of Vampire Shift and asked to have a read and I contacted Jennifer Turner and ask if I could have a read of ‘Eternal Seduction’. I am then rewarded with 2 very different and most awesome stories that I found quite original.

I had stumbled across Jennifer’s web page and she had the first 3 chapters of this book up to read. I fell in love with her writing , straight away. ‘Eternal Seduction’ is a great page turner. I recommend everybody go have a read of her chapters, you will see what I mean. If you like paranormal/urban fantasy with a nice dose of adult smexi in it, then I think you will really enjoy ‘Eternal Seduction’.

Within the first chapter you find 30 year old Logan Ellis lives a hard life on the streets of New York. She is street savvy and quite emotionally detached from herself. 10 years on the street surviving will do that to you.

She knows about vampires but that’s their business what they get up to. She just wants to get to her next meal ticket or it’s alla garbage on the menu and her next hit of drugs. There’s one problem, some squabbling vampires are in her way. So what would anybody do who wanted to get some vampires to move on......well pitch her dinner , an apple core at one of them, of course, ha!

Enter Kerestyan Nelek, Lord of the New York Vampires. Logan is such a flawed character in many ways. As the reader you find it very easy to like her. She just does not care and she is so verbally honest.

Kerestyan is such a likeable character. I loved that he didn’t judge Logan. He was this all powerful presence that could end lives magician style. There was something that stopped him in his tracks , intrigued him about Logan. I think Kerestyan was blown away by her the moment she spoke, he didn’t see a homeless druggie, he saw intelligence.

I love Odin, Kerestyan’s brother, he brings so much humour to this book. He is quite hilarious. He dislikes Logan , is sarcasm extreme and is the real deal. The banter between Logan and Odin I loved reading. He really is a gem of a character. A very funny moment is when Odin is left virtually speechless..well virtually.

The black dreadlock wearing Vouclade is another brother I really liked. He has a very interesting way about him, caring yet.....dangerous and has a very interesting chapter with Logan.

Father , Lord Stefan Nelek , is very old and he is very dangerous, even to his children. He likes to play chess, his way.

The supporting characters are well written and make you want to know more. I love Syn, I think you will too. Drake Black came and went , I am glad he is the main male character in Eternal Hearts, the next book in the series . Raze is a great character, a Paladin, very original.

I totally love it when I find a book that really satisfies me and I want more. Jennifer writes like a New York Best Seller. My only grumble is it wasn’t long enough, I was in a reading trance and I wanted more.

This series is one to put on your shelves , for the adults:D

FAVE QUOTES:

He raked her with a hard glare from those creepy depths then scowled. “It’s wet and dirty . Where did you get it?”
Did she really just hear that? She stiffened and narrowed her eyes to match his. “I’m not an it?”
He turned towards Kerestyan, mouth agape. “ You brought one home that can still talk?”

“She isn’t here of her own accord.”
“Ooh, is she food?”
“No!” Kerestyan boomed. “She is not food.”

“I am not going to go buy her clothes. I’m your twin , not your bitch.”

Odin’s mouth closed and opened a few times before words finally came out. “She’s like a #$@&^%# seven layer burrito someone forgot was in the back of the fridge for six months.”

“You made her clothes.”
Odin reached up and scratched the back of his head, false irritation crinkling the faint lines around his eyes. “It’s not like I had a choice. The all night grocery store doesn’t sell a size two meant to fit a six foot tall bean pole.”

Logan Ellis has spent over a decade on the harsh streets of New York City. She goes about life with her eyes averted from the crimes that occur around her and only looks for ways to feed her drug addiction. Her life is placed in the hands of a vampire Lord after she witnesses a fight among his kind, and she can't seem to bring herself to really care. Kerestyan Nelek is the Lord of New York City and it's his responsibility to keep humans from finding out about his people's existence. He should kill Logan because of the information he is unable to erase from her memory but he is intrigued by her and the detachment he sees in her eyes. Once her future is decided for her, Logan isn't sure what will be more challenging to confront, her transformation into a new life or the emotions Kerestyan makes her feel.

I found Logan Ellis to be a really great character because she doesn't fit into the typical mold of a heroine. She's a homeless drug addict who takes full responsibility for how her life has turned out and genuinely doesn't care about the world or people around her. If she is to be killed for knowing that vampires exist, well then so be it but don't expect her to beg for mercy. Logan's able to adapt to changing situations and even though she didn't choose her new life, she puts everything into it. I liked that even though she gets clean, in every way, she doesn't really change. She'll still stand toe to toe with immortals so old they're considered ancients and exchange sharp tongued quips with meanest of them.

Kerestyan Nelek is quite the opposite. He's the strong, intelligent, powerful alpha hero who rules his fledglings fairly. At first it was curiosity he felt towards Logan but as he asks questions and listens to her story, he begins to crave the woman he'll do anything to save. Kerestyan accepts Logan for all her faults and will stand by her unconditionally.

As we follow Logan from the gutters of New York City into the dark shadows of the paranormal, we are introduced into a world of vampires, werewolves, dragons, immortal warriors and characters that will stay with you long after you've finished the book. Lord Stefen Nelek is Kerestyan's creator. He's very old and powerful and the decision is his if Logan is welcomed into his blood line or if she dies. He's a truly frightening character but I think I'm more in awe of him than terrified. He commands each scene he's in and even though he could kill you with little more than a thought, I see how he cares for his children (the vampires he created) and I respect that. Odin is what you'd consider the bad boy of Stefan's children (or at least of the children I've met so far). As soon as the first sarcastic comment left his mouth, I knew I was smitten. He's brash and arrogant but loves his brother and will stand up for him against anyone. I really hope to see him in future books.

Eternal Seduction stands out among all the paranormal romance books I've read. There's a love story to it but it felt secondary to Logan and her personal struggles and introduction into a new world. That dark world of mystery, politics, hidden enemies and more, along with interesting characters made this a book a could not put down.

"testosterone driven penile fever"

This book was fantastic. The author took everything I've come to expect form the typical PNR read and flipped it inside out and upside down. We all know the "typical" drill. Girl spies sexy, brooding, mystery man and heart goes pitter patter. Said mystery man can't risk the fragile human and fights how he's drawn to her but must protect her at all cost while waxing poetic in her ear while doing a poor job keeping the stuborn human at arms length. Sound familiar? Well, Eternal Seduction is is like that....but on crack. OR...should I say heroine?

Our heroine (Logan)is a heroin addict. Point blank, no sugar coating, she's a mangy addict who pretty much does'nt give 2 sh*ts about the world around her. That being said, wether she cares or not does'nt blind her to her surroundings. As a homeless addict wondering the NYC streets at all hours, Logan is bound to see more than she's supposed to.

Enter Kerestyan Nelek, the vampiric Lord of NYC who must keep his city safe. Humans are'nt to know what lurks the streets while they sleep. Yet here's this little addict that knows way beyond what any human should be allowed to know. Such knowledge usually means death but he can't quite make up his mind. He's baffled because while death looms, Logan can't be bothered. Her "meh...whatever." attitude is something his ancient mind can't fathom.

The two leads in this book are so well written with fantastic chemistry. This is'nt your typical love story. The banter between the two, the somewhat role reversal in some aspects is truly refreshing. The sex scenes sizzle and "K" is sexy vamp personified.

Lord Kerestyan comes from the very powerful Nelek family. In this installment, we are introduced to siblings and his father. My favorite being twin brother Odin. Odin is such a powerful character. He's a scene stealer and I hope that he gets his own book somewhere along the line. He's strong, powerful and has not an ounce of tact. He truly had me laughing out loud throughout the entire book. That's not to say he's a cartoon of a character. Odin is very protective of his twin and will not tolerate anything less that what "K" deserves. Just don't call him Greek. Ever. Serious. :)

I'm a sucker for a good vampire book. Hell, I'm a sucker for anything having to do with vampires! I LOVE THEM. That being said, not every thing I'll read will completely satisfy my vampire craving. I felt this book was right up that alley: Good, but still yearning for more.

This isn't your typical great woman turns bad vampire good type story. The vampire in question, Kerestyn--LOVE that name BTW--isn't morally bankrupt or needing to be saved from his bloodlust that has inadvertently erased his last vestiges of humanity. He is the Lord of New York and works to keep his city clean and it's vampires adhering to it's one rule: The veil. Simply, don't let the humans know about our existence, or else.

So not your typical hero. And definitely not your typical heroine either. Logan is damaged. She has gone through excrutiating adolescent trauma and has been living on the streets for over 10 years. She is almost morally bankrupt and has little to no hope for humanity or people in general. Witnessing vampires fighting, she wins the attention of Kerestyn and is given a grave decision: Go with him or die.

The story takes off from there and we watch as Logan's life changes dramatically, including the relationship she has with Kerestyn. This was good, very different world building and explanations for the existence of vampires. Now, I loved the originality of the story but am mixed about the genesis of vampires and the world in general I was given. It sounded too simple and mystified to make sense but there you go.

The sensuality and emotion between Logan and Kerestyn was palpable! It was HOT, HOT, HOT!! Not annoyingly LONG sex scenes but erotic and intense. I liked that for a change and the fact it was more realistic!

Good story, creative, sensual and sweet. I enjoyed this.

God where do I start? Every vampire in this book so far and the main protagonist has black hair and all the vampires are so ridiculously old! K, as that stupid bitch that made the steaks called him is like 10,000 years old and his his blood brother Vouclade is 20,000 years old and yes that his fucking name! All the names are retarted. And secondly she doesn't go through any pain from withdrawl and since I'm an ex addict I know that really is just pathetic writing. She just hops outta bed and wants a steak. PUHLEEZE! My kindle says I'm 28% through but I don't know how on earth I'm going to finish this.

OH and could Kerestyan be a bigger vagina? He has absolutly nothing to recommend him, and the author couldn't seem to decide if his eyes were black or blue. I appluad her for trying to do a different type of vampire that isn't a bad boy, but the problem with good guy vampires is that they suck and are boooring! Remember Stefan from the Vampire Diaries? Remember Damon? See the difference? Damon rocked that shit and Stefan was a snore.

OH and all the effing talking in this book and the constant attempts at humor really made me sick. Now admittly I don't like books that are supposed to be funny, because they almost always fall flat but this one is just awful.

In the end I would rather pluck out my eyes than finish this book and I know that I will get at least one comment saying I shouldn't review a book I can't finish but I'm just so frustrated with crappy books.

Usually when you get a free book on Kindle, you really are getting what you pay for. But sometimes you read one that surprises you. This is one of those books. Don't let the title throw you off of what kind of book this is. It's not your normal PR. This is really about the heroine first and the romance second. What I liked about it most, is she didn't whine about anything! There is nothing worse than a heroine who is supposed to be a strong and smart woman who complains about everything. She is also not your typical heroine who is beautiful or rich or wants a better life for herself. She is content being who she is (no matter how bad off the reader think she is). That doesn't mean that she doesn't change for the better, but even at the HEA, she is still not perfect and there isn't some Alpha male asking her to be what he thinks a good woman should be.

The humor was definitely there. She has a great banter with Odin that I haven't found amusing in other books since the BDB series.

Another aspect of the book that was refreshing, was the history behind the vampirism. The author is talented enough to bring her imagination to the pages where I can visualize the story she is telling about where they came from and the hierarcy in it. I will happily read other books from this author based on this book alone.

Oh, this is soooo going into my favorites! LOVE LOVE LOVED IT! I cant wait to read the 2nd and however many Jennifer decides to put out.

I laughed through the entire book, Odin is by far my favorite and just can't sit still until his book comes out. Sad moments, some OMG WTF moments, I cant count how many times I was caught off-guard and the end had me grinning like the romance loving, goof-ball that I am. If you haven't read, you MUST.

and I can't forget Texxie, Thank you Sister Mine for introducing and loaning me this book! You sat there and laughed at me while I screamed WTF, awww'd and laughed my ass off. Cant wait to read the 2nd ;)

This book wasted no time getting right to the point! It had that feel of NYC in it and was everything I expected it to be. I am originally from NYC and after reading this book I missed NY a lot. I loved everything including the characters and the world the author created! This book has drama, betrayal, romance, love, humor and action! A good read!!

Original, Unique, and Awesome!
If you are a fan of fangy romance, have an appreciation for thorough and layered world building and mythos creation, and have a special place in your heart for flawed/damaged characters, stop reading this review and start buying Eternal Seduction, because this one has it all. This book not only hit all my happy spots as a reader, it stroked them and made them wriggle with pleasure!

I loved it. I loved Logan, the heroine-addicted street waif with a jaded view of life and utterly disconnected with humanity. I loved her decidedly broken moral compass and her blase attitude coupled with a steely sense of responsibility for her actions and choices, however unsympathetic those may be. I loved that for as flawed and damaged a character as she was, she still had an intensity of personality that was as compelling to me as it was to Kerestyan. And I just flat-out adored Lord Kerestyan, the Ancient vampire who has spent at least the last several...several years in a sort of emotional ennui even as he rules the city of New York, watching out for the fledglings and keeping the Veil intact. When he stumbles onto Logan, a human aware of the existence of vampires, instead of killing her, he abducts her and gives her a choice. Live or die. The complexities of that simple-sounding choice have the power to change Logan and Kerestyan in ways they may not be able to comprehend.

With a totally unique vampire/werewolf/Paladin/Celestial mythos that I found to be astoundingly complete, original, and remarkably well defined (even for it being the Cliffs Notes version), a stubborn street waif that seemed fiercely determined to make her own way in the world regardless of cost or destination - and at times despite them, a sexy Ancient vampire that falls for said stubborn street waif with endearing alacrity, the ensuing romance that was enchantingly realistic given the character development of each of them, and a fascinating (and at times hilarious), well-developed stable of secondary and ancillary characters, Eternal Seduction has managed to reaffirm my rabid lust for dark vampire/paranormal romance. And the plot was very well paced with an enthralling mix of humor, tragedy, danger, and sheer grit. I have nothing even remotely critical about any aspect of Eternal Seduction.

★★★★☆ I loved it

Originally I'd heard of Eternal Seduction a while ago now but my want to read this was never too far from the front of my mind. So when I finally got a chance to read it there was no second guessing, only immediate action. Reading, reading and more reading. It was a shame my bodies requirements to live had to interrupt. I loved almost everything about this novel. Be it the atypical characters living in a familiar setting of a vampire-filled New York or the wisecracks regularly filling the pages, I don't think this'll be one I soon forget. It's a love story at heart though we get to experience more as our star grows and adapts to the situations she finds herself in.

Logan is simply one of the best heroines I've come to encounter. She's as tough as nails, living on the streets and being addicted to heroine as a choice to escape her abusive and mistake-riddled past. She does what she needs to survive and doesn't make any excuses for it. Her life is what she made it. Beaten down as she is, her mind is open to the truth involving aggressive vampires that roam the backstreets. This leads her on a journey that she doesn't have much choice in. Her sense of humour is intelligent and witty and the banter that happens between her and a vamp called Odin is sure to have you laughing out loud. The main vamp, Kerestyan (I really need to look up how to say that) is serious, brooding and sees through Logan to what's hidden her security walls.

These vampires are more like gods in age and power though sometimes no so much in personality. It's hard not to fall in love with them even though their faults are out the plain as day. There's a twist near the end which I forgot to look for. It was hinted at. I was just too busy caught up in how Logan's thoughts that when she forgot, I forgot. My favourite of all was Syn the wolf. I love me dogs and he just sounded so gorgeous! I can't wait for the sequel Eternal Hearts though like a lot of Paranormal Romance series, the focus shifts to another character. Still, Jennifer is an extremely talented writer that I'm sure she'll have me in love with them only a few chapters in. So make sure you read Eternal Seduction as it deserves all the attention it gets.

Cover: Sorry to say but not a big fan. I like the contrast of tones but the naked woman kind of cheapens the quality of writing inside.

The hero's name is Kerestyan. My weird ass brain immediately substituted it with Berenstain from the berenstain/berenstein conspiracy and THERE WAS NO GOING BACK. I gave up correcting his name after 30% and just mentally read him as Berenstain for the reminder of the story.

That aide it was initially very refreshing to read a heroine very different from the cookie-cutter heroines in PNR. She was a heroin addict living on the street and didn't give two shits about the existence of vampires or the douchey-hero. It's was pretty cool, until the author took away EVERY single interesting thing about her character and forced her back into the typical PNR heroine mould. Her transformation couldn't have been more literal. See for yourself:

“It appears the decision has been made for you.”

She opened her eyes and stared at Vouclade. “What?”

“Father wishes for your body to be restored completely. He says it is the second step in you realizing you are more than what others believe you are.”

(...)

She stared down at her arms almost unable to believe her own eyes. The needle tracks were completely gone, as if they’d never been there at all, and instead of a pale, sickly color, her skin was ivory and shimmered in a way she hadn’t seen since…she couldn’t even remember.

Her mouth all but fell open when she looked down. She cupped and squeezed her breasts. “Are my boobs bigger?”

He laughed. “Only slightly. Your bone structure wasn’t meant for anything more than what you already had. However, in my personal opinion, the more womanly curve of your hips compensate for whatever it is you feel your breasts lack.”

Logan ran her hands over her body. “I have hips!” She tried to look over her shoulder. “I think I have an ass.” She groped her behind, finding a bit more than she had before. “I do! I have an ass!"

She is miraculously cured from her addiction in two days, is turned from a skinny lanky woman to a ~beautiful~ heroine. I mean, God forbid a drug addict have needle marks and actually LOOK like drug addict

Why, just... why? It was the worst kind of bait and switch ever. Entice me with an actually different heroine, write her for a few chapters then change her back to the bland ~speshul snowflake~ you see literally everywhere else. What a disappointment.

Loved this book, it was fabulous! A new take on vampire history, along with the "others". Did I ever think I'd fall for a heroine that starts out as a homeless heroin user, not in a million years! But this book was soooo good!

I was ready for a "hero falls first and fast" book and this filled the bill, but on top of that the heroine was so funny and as tough as they come. The hero was hot, he can walk me through a tough time any day! The side characters and "world" were very well developed.

The interactions between the hero's brother, Odin, and the heroine, Logan, were LOL priceless! As well as with the rest of the family members. I don't think I'll ever see a yearly Dr's visit the same again! You get your LOL and your tears with this one.

I still don't know what is up with the cover, besides it being eye catching, but you've got to give this book a try. I read the Kindle version, and yes there are some editing issues but they are easy to get past with being so involved in the story.

According to Amazon Jennifer Turner has the next three books in the series already written, I'd be happy with just the second installment for now!

I had read an excerpt of this book a couple of years ago and it seemed like it would be a great read. Not so much. I think some reviewers like that Logan is an anti-heroine. You want an anti-heroine read Stacia Kane's Downside Ghosts series. Logan gets off drugs in a couple of days thanks to her vamp friends and she never exhibits any of the negative traits a long term drug user would have, she's not gritty. That she doesn't fall into the heroes arms is a nice turn, but she's not as feral or damaged as she should be for 14 or 15 years on the streets. The relationship between the 2 main characters is minimal and as another reviewer has said, you learn more about the secondary characters than you do the main characters. A hundred pages could have been added to add more depth to this story. I've read 100 page novellas with more substance than this.

It was, however, a quick read and the prose flowed.

It was a good read, i liked it, but not more than that.
It is not another stereotype vampire story but approaches from a different angle which I liked a lot and found refreshing. Unfortunately, the middle part was rather dull and lacked tension between the MC's.
I liked Logan who is a anti-heroine. I'm drawn to the unusual flawed characters, so that was something I really enjoyed. There were very good side characters I might enjoy in the sequels like Drake, Raze and Odin. They were tough and funny. Unlike Kerestyan who was rather a douche- he didn't even save his woman himself!!
This leads me to the names, I just didn't like the choice of names which is an important aspect in a book. Vouclade, Kerestyan, Logan, Odin. Really?! Plus their ages: 10.000, 20.000 years- that's a bit too much.
All in all, the book had potential, but for me it lacked tension. Maybe there's more of that in the sequel.

Not bad.. I did feel some of the underlying plot was forced, though. I wish more of the story had focused on Kerestyan and Logan and less on the vampire politics. The two plot lines did not mesh well.

Logan Ellis is the protagonist of this original and innovating book about vampire romance. It would be an understatement to say that Logan isn’t like your typical heroine, which makes her all the more interesting. She’s a passive character, traumatized up to the point that she just lets things pass her by unnoticed, even when topics as alarming as her own possible death are referred to. She genuinely doesn’t care, not about herself – her survival skills are greatly lacking, to say the least – her surroundings, the conditions she lives in, or the world around her. She’s a homeless drug addict without any real future waiting ahead of her. She adapts remarkably fast to altering situations, but feels no real emotion towards anything. Except when you mention to her that she should stop taking drugs. Then you get an emotion, although not a very good one. She basically has the personality of a zombie, walking through life so uncaring about herself or her surroundings that she’s not really living life. She’s practically on the verge of being a vampire herself, if you look at it that way. The interesting part though is that for Logan, it isn’t just an act, like I’ve seen countless of times in young adult books (this is not young adult, by the way, just searching for a reference) but which is basically just the main character acting touch and cool. Here, it’s not the case. At the roots of Logan’s numbness and her inability to actually live, are real traumas waiting to resurface any time now.

At her core, Logan is a traumatized, messed up young woman who struggles to take hold of her life and who, although claiming to take full responsibility for the way she’s living right now, has run away from her home years ago, and hasn’t stopped running ever since. Her taking-responsibility-act is just what the word says: an act. Deep in her heart she has issues she cannot come to terms with, and she has traumas she cannot deal with. Although saddening, this is what makes her interesting. She’s unlike most paranormal romance heroines, in the sense that she has real traumas rather than just a messed-up personality. A shrink would love tog et his hands on her, but unfortunately, she’s stuck without a shrink but with one insanely hot vampire. I guess that’ll have to do.

Kerestyan Nelek (difficult name, you have to admit that) is totally the opposite of Logan. For starters, he’s confident, strong, powerful, protective over those he cares about and he’s used to getting his way. Life itself seems to bend just so he can get his wishes. He’s also extremely handsome – no kidding – and did I mention that he’s a vampire? And a very old one at that? As far as luck goes, Logan can count herself lucky for running into this particular vampire the night she sees some fledgling vampires fighting in one of New York’s abandoned streets. Kerestyan is immediately intrigued by this thirty-year-old woman whose aura’s so dark and brooding the fledglings mistakingly ought her to be a vampire servant, and who acts so untouched by the events unfolding in front of her. On the one hand, he should kill her because she knows too much, but on the other hand he simply can’t bring himself to do it. Instead, he offers Logan a choice. It’s a choice that’ll change her life forever.

After we meet Kerestyan and travel with him and Logan from the gutters of New York to Kerestyan’s luxurious home, we are thrown into the world of of the paranormal, supernatural and increasingly scary. We learn that Kerestyan is the Vampire Lord of New York, and that he’s one of the last descendents of a millennium-old vampire bloodline created by Lord Stefen Nelek. Although Kerestyan seems quite alright, his brother Odin is quite the opposite. Sarcastic, mean and sometimes downright rude, it’s obvious that he cares a lot about Kerestyan and doesn’t want the latter to get hurt because of a heroin addict. Kerestyan’s sister Trinity is an interesting character as well, although I myself much preferred Odin. Trinity is dominating, confident and rather manipulative, but all in all, she’s likeable once you get past that. Anyway, if Odin ever gets himself a book, I’m totally getting that one. He deserves it.

I loved the unique way Jennifer Turner describes the vampire society. The hierarchy is very present, but it’s not just ‘every man for himself’ or ‘vampire royals and common vampires’. There’s an entire system in place, which feels unique, innovating and refreshing. It’s dark, mystical, scary and sometimes even downright terrifying, but it’s above all, very entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed entering this new and dark side to New York and other major cities in the world, with vampires practically ruling society and making sure humans don’t notice them. I loved the idea of clans battling each other, or cooperating on a rather loose basis. I’d love to learn more about this well-designed world and the characters living in it.

I also liked the character of Vouclade. I think there’s more to him than meets the eye, and I liked how he was so protective over Kerestyan as well. Lord Nelek was an interesting persona as well, although he did function a bit like a ‘deus ex machina’ when revealing Logan’s fears, weaknesses and traumas, and then made her practically forgive herself. I wasn’t too fond of that, but overall, I liked him. Very scary, uberpowerful vampire who’s been around since the beginning of time. I’m all for that.

One of the major comments I have about this book works two ways. Let me try to explain. The romance itself develops slowly, which I enjoyed thoroughly. Logan and Kerestyan’s attraction seems honest and real, and it takes a lot of time before Logan can admit to herself that she might have feelings for the alpha vampire. On the other hand, their sexual relationship doesn’t take that long to develop. Before I very well realized it, I was reading a hot and heavy scene involving both characters. It was a bit too early in the story to introduce this, in my opinion, and I found it quite shocking and not all that believable. I was releived to see both characters return to their original positions afterwards, and let things develop more slowly. I get writing paranormal romance, especially for an adult audience, and I understand that you need to have some ‘sexy stuff’ included for your audience to enjoy your book. I just don’t understand why in every book, regardless of whether the two main characters initially like each other or not, they get in bed with each other within the hundred-or-so first pages. I’d like to see a self-respecting heroine for once, who does not have sex with guys she barely just met. Granted, this does fit Logan’s personality as being an emotionless drug addict who cares little about her own body, but it still didn’t feel right.

If you’re a fan of sexy paranormal romance, then Eternal Seduction is a great choice. It doesn’t only offer romance, but it has a decent and captivating backstory, interesting characters with real-life problems and issues, humor, impressive world-building and some really hot scenes. I loved the pairing, and I’d like to read more about Logan and Kerestyan – although, if I’m being honest, I’d prefer to read more about Odin first. Jennifer Turner has a unique narrator’s voice that I thoroughly enjoyed as well. I recommend this to all adults who enjoy paranormal romance.

Top Rating!
I don't think any other author has surprised me so much with a heroine, as Jennifer Turner did with Logan in Eternal Seduction. In the first moments of the book you see her living on the streets, mugging a lady for money, she's dirty, she eats from the trash and buys heroine to feed her addiction. I was blown away and wondered how the heck this woman was going to drive the book as its heroine.

But i was further surprised when Logan became a heroine i loved reading about. She progressed in the sense she cleaned up, and lead the story so good and i can happily say she didn't irritate me once, a fete only a handful of heroines have achieved so far. A gritty story giving you a new view on vampires you will unquestionably be hooked into right from the first page, heavily character driven, in Eternal Seduction Logan has discovered vampires exist, she's jaded and cold and doesn't much care if they exist, but Vampire Lord Kerestyan can't let a human run around with knowledge of his race so he either has to kill her or turn her into a servio (vampire servant)

And now to Kerestyan, he IS everything you want in a hero, he never denies his feelings, he cares and he says it, he's loyal and fair to his city and family. He's as intrigued by Logan as much as the reader is, he sees past her cold exterior to what she can be, he doesn't pressure her, he wants her to care for him but because she decides to, not because he's put the vampire whammy on her. To say he is sexy as sin is an understatement! RAWR!! When these two get with the sexy time it is major HAWT! Nothing crude, just wild crazy all consuming lust.
A little quirk i found endearing about Logan is she's major on the oral hygiene. It made me giggle and aww at the same time.
Some quotes i loved:

“Do you strive to form an emotional connection with every cow you consume?”
“Oh, that’s a cheap excuse. I can’t talk to a cow.” She laughed.

“Instinct is all the beast has, Logan.” His cold fingers curled and in one swift motion, he tore her shirt in half. “Emotion…the only truth it knows.” His warming fingers pinched her tight nipples. “Rage.” He nipped then tautly rolled her earlobe between his teeth. “Passion.” He delivered a hot, shivery lick to the nape of her neck. “Lust.” He dragged the tips of his fangs across her shoulder. “But one feeling stirs the beast in a way nothing else can.”

Along with the two main characters, you get great secondary characters in Kerestyan's family: Odin, Trinity and Vouclade. And then there is Drake. All very interesting and intriguing and i look forward to getting to know all of them better. Odin God of War is a complete hoot, a bad ass to the core he gave me many laugh out loud moments, I loved the banter Odin and Logan had between them. He's fiercely loyal to his brother and a nice twist on this ferocious vampire, he likes to sew.
Someone else i loved from the book, Syn the wolf, so cute and funny, he's charged with guarding Logan, The vampires can communicate with him and Trinity tells Logan:

“He says you’re in Kerestyan’s heart, so you’re in his, too.”
Too cute!

There's quite a bit of vampire politics to get used to, understandable for a book one in a new series but it never gets overwhelming with so much info to ingest.

What this author gives you is a wonderful new aspect to romantic urban fantasy paranormal. A story that will draw you into the lives of the characters and make you hungry for book two right away. I rarely give 5 out of 5 to any book, even books that i've loved mostly get a 4 rating because they've lacked something, or something has irked me. With Eternal Seduction, it is just none stop page turner, a sexy engaging read and i for one cannot wait until Drake's book Eternal Heart is released.I LOVED this book.
