Parke Godwin was an American writer known for his lyrical yet precise prose style and sardonic humor. He was also known for his novels of legendary figures placed in realistic historical settings; his retelling of the Arthur legend (Firelord in 1980, Beloved Exile in 1984, and The Last Rainbow in 1985) is set in the 5th century during the collapse of the Roman empire, and his reinterpretation of Robin Hood (Sherwood, 1991, and Robin and the King, 1993) takes place during the Norman conquest and features kings William the Conqueror and William Rufus as major characters. His other well-known works include Waiting For The Galactic Bus (1988) and its sequel The Snake Oil Wars (1989), humorous critiques of American pop culture and religion.

Parke Godwin also worked as a radio operator, a research technician, a professional actor, an advertising man, a dishwasher and a maitre d' hotel.

Godwin's short fiction has appeared in several anthologies. His short story "Influencing the Hell out of Time and Teresa Golowitz," was the basis of an episode of the television series The Twilight Zone.

This was an ok book but maybe because I hadn't read the first 6, I didn't find it all that interesting. Maybe younger YA readers might like it.

Cornelia is not doing well after leaving Meridian. She misses Elyon and mourns Caleb. She is still watering his blue flower though. Will gets her a kitten to help her heal. Will returns home and her mom announces they are moving at the end of the year. She wonders how moving will affect her being a guardian.

Taranee’s mom doesn’t want her seeing Nigel and they argue. In Taranee’s room she sees someone outside her window. They left a message, “I know who you are”. How foreboding! She woke up late and found out someone was in her room and took a picture of her. She runs to school late and finds the group except for Cornelia who is at home. Irma astral dropped herself and transformed herself to impress the boys. Irma can’t change back into her normal self. Their powers seem to be off! The bald guy that has been messing with Taranee kidnaps her older brother, Peter. The girls are back at Taranee’s house trying to transform Irma back. With difficulty, she successfully is back to normal. Taranee tells them about the creeper that knows about them. The bald guy calls her and tells her to meet him alone to get Peter back. They all head to the mall to meet the man. Taranee plans to use her telepathy powers to contact the group when the man appears. When he comes, he powers stop working! She can’t contact the girls! The bald guy is Frost the hunter. He wants revenge for them stopping Phobos. He wants Taranee to show him where Cornelia is. The girls try to follow them when Hay-Lin turns invisible and can’t turn visible. They battle Frost without Cornelia. They feel their powers weakening. Hay-Lin still invisible trips Frost and Will knocks him out. They free Taranee’s brother and bring Frost to Candracar. The heart is clouded, something is wrong! They arrive in Candracar and Hay-Lin’s grandmother makes her visible again. The oracle is angry at them. Their powers are weakening because the heart sensed darkness in them. Their group bond is weak and they are using their powers for the wrong reasons. It’s up to them to make their bonds and powers stronger!

The group keeps arguing! They don’t act like friends. The oracle is testing the girls but the keeper of the aurameres, Luba seems to be cooking up a scheme! The detectives are still investigating Elyon’s house. They knocked down the wall in the basement, which was to hide the portal leading to Meridian. Luckily, they found nothing. The group came to Irma’s house to apologize. They are going to break into Simultech, Will’s mom’s job without magic! They get into the office where the transfer papers would be in. There is a safe, so Hay-Lin tries to use her powers to open it, but it just made everything in the office go crazy. Luba is intentionally dampening their powers and pushing them close together. The girls collectively transform by joining all their powers with the Heart of Candracar. Then boom! The safe exploded and the girls are left powerless. Then this water person started walking around. Luba says they’ve given life to an Altermere.

Plot Twist: The Oracle says Luba is the one who was being tested not the guardians. Luba brought the Aurameres closer together to make them believe the guardians were not worthy and by doing so she interfered with fate. The Altermere now possesses four of the five guardian powers and will go after Cornelia. Ask forces of darkness will emerge and the guardians will be powerless to stop them. Napoleon the cat Will got Cornelia knocked over and broke Caleb in flower form. Her mother said they can put him, the flower in a better vase. It turns out the cat didn’t knock over the flower to hurt it but to protect it from the crows eating it. Will’s mom said her boss decided not to transfer her and they are staying in Heatherfield! Yay!

Irma hears the deceives talking about the case and they said that it is clear that Elyon and her parents were illegal aliens and that they will begin working on other cases since immigration authorities will be handling the case from now on. The Altermere, blob went to Irma’s looking like Irma to track down Cornelia. Then it saw Taranee, Hay-Lin and Irma looking for Cornelia and transformed to look like Will. The blob ran up the stairs looking like Will to beat the other three up to Cornelia’s house. Cornelia hugged it and she absorbed the Altermere. She now has all five powers. She has to free herself of the excess energy or it will be dangerous. She’ll undergo changes to her behavior and physically. Cornelia tells everyone to get out after Irma teased her about Caleb. She feels powerful! She wants to bring Caleb back to life!

i forgot how much i loved caleb.. all the feels
