Blair lives in East Tennessee with his wife Jo, and Jack Russell Terrier, Sally.
Nero and Wu are back to fight the Peacemakers another day. Al (Nero) is called to attend Jack O’Neil’s retirement party. When he gets there he learns there is one more mission and that O’Neil has left the Secret Service, is moving to Paris and running the mission from there. Once in Paris Al meets his new partner, Lisette Caron. The plot is really well done, the first third leading up to the explosive final two-thirds. The action practically jumps off the pages. And the conclusion let’s you know there is more to come. Thanks to the author and publisher for an ARC for an honest review.
I loved the first book in this series, The Peacemaker, and didn't think it could be topped. I was wrong. Dangerous Games is by far the best book yet. If you like non-stop action, adventure and excitement, you will love this book.
This is book two of The Peacemaker series and sees Al (Albert) Westwood, also known as Nero, getting called back into the spy game by his ex-handler, MI6 agent and spy master Jack O’Neil. The caveat is that if he does this one job, he is guaranteed a Queen’s pardon, which will mean he will no longer need to live as a ghost, at least in the UK. He is a former British special forces (SAS) sniper, who is a magician with a gun, but also an ex-mercenary and did a lot of jobs he is still wanted for all over the world, under his persona Nero. The job is extremely dangerous, pitting him back up against more of the Peacemakers, a group of fanatics, who want to bring about their own version of world peace and take the world back to how it used to be, never mind whether that will mean destroying it in the process. O’Neil wants him to meet up with a French former COS (Commandement des Operations Speciales) Special Operations Command and marine captain of the elite Commando Juebert, counter-terrorism, until she left to care for her mother. They were to travel to Fuerteventura to rescue an agent called Ulrich Lowenstein, who was looking into the Peacemakers and disappeared a few weeks ago.
O’Neil has his numerous contacts from his years in MI6 and makes use of one called Merlin, a supposed art dealer, but really an arms dealer and someone with contacts in the illegal sectors everywhere, a finger in every pie, and blackmails him as such, to assist them with travel, arms and more, to get to where they need and as soon as possible. But someone has sent them into a trap. With Nero and Lisette on the ball, no one can get away with tricking them in such a situation and they get into the building where Lowenstein is being held, to hear gunshots already being fired. It seems someone else is also taking part in this fight, but possibly on the other side. Al is shocked to find Casey Wu, ex-CIA and an expert assassin for hire, there before them, especially after he left her all alone in the middle of nowhere in the States, after they had worked together to take down one of the heads of the Peacemakers plans to destroy the Middle East with nuclear bombs. He doesn’t know how much he can trust her now, even though they used to work together and were allies at the time, now he doesn’t know who she is working for, but it seems she has done most of the hard work for them and left the captive alive for them. The part ways, but that won’t be the last of them meeting up again.
Casey has been forced into her current assignment, by one of the Peacemakers, who is a vicious predator and enjoys preying on the young and innocent and doing whatever he wants to achieve his own end goals. He has found Casey’s weak point and used it against her, to get her to eliminate his rivals in his plans to take over the world and force it into his ideal view for the future. The man is a Peacemaker, high up in the organisation and possibly the replacement for the man Nero took down last year. Casey is being forced to do things against her will and is therefore on the opposite side of the fight to Al and Lisette, but that doesn’t mean that she will eliminate them or even do exactly as her new boss dictates. They might have normally have been trying to kill each other, but Casey has a reason to want the same man dead as Al, and for her it’s personal! They continue to come across her at each of the places they find clues to follow, in the hunt for the latest head of the Peacemakers and their attempts to take over the world. Lowenstein joins Al and Lisette once he recovers from his imprisonment, but Al has his misgivings about him, thinking him a weak link. Al is attracted to Lisette and having always lived a life as a singular person, with no commitments and especially no one close enough to him, to be used as a weakness by an enemy, he finds himself having to rethink that when he gets close to Lisette.
Finding Casey had kept a secret from him for years, that left with a weakness that could be used and Lowenstein finds out his loved ones are also targeted, by this sick enemy, who has far too much money and reach and is managing to keep steps ahead of them all the time, as well as seeming to have an endless stream of armed guards at his control, to stop them in their tracks at every attempt. It seems someone is letting the enemy know their every move and he is a master at blackmailing others to do as he wants. Al can see himself wanting to hand up his ‘ghost’ status once this job is over and possibly have a quiet future with someone special, but first he needs to survive the fight they are mixed up in. How many Peacemakers there are around the world is unknown. They thought they had taken down a large part of the organisation a year ago, but it seems there are many more rich and very powerful individuals who are part of the Peacemakers, as well as their minions, willing to die for their cause and do any evil deeds necessary to achieve their aims.
Al, Lisette, O’Neil, Lowenstein and Casey all have to work together at the end of this story, to try to save Casey and Lowenstein’s family members and take down this high ranking Peacemaker before he can get his plot to fruition. If not, the world will be taken back decades in its energy use and danger to the climate. A dangerous game between trained killers and an organisation that kills with impunity to achieve their sick goals and needs to be stopped, whatever the cost. A great follow up to the first book in this series and a great insight into the sort of people governments need to use in order to stop some of the most evil people in the world, who think the world should operate as they desire, no matter the cost to any innocents in the way. There is enough evil in the world without those in positions of power, using their wealth to do as they wish, as shown perfectly in this book. I can’t wait for the next book in this series to see how the ‘Dandy Dogs’, as O’Neil nicknames them, do against the evil of the Peacemakers. A seemingly never ending battle to justice and right, with loads of action, but also some heartfelt reactions and feelings. I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Excitement builds as an international conspiracy goes for the world's jugular - 4.5 stars
Dropouts from the world's three letter agencies (British MI6, American CIA, German KSK and French COS) work together to try to take out a wealthy, power hungry underworld group. Airplanes and bullets fly while a small team of former black operations members form the unlikely sounding "Dandy Dogs", shooting up hired thugs around the world. And there is an understandable plot. It is all good.
The first few chapters feel like growing in upper middle class America until they don't. And then the story line changes. I thought that someone was supposed to remove those chapters -- don't forget about them as eventually there is a tie in.
The team consists of two women (Casey and Lisette) and three men (Jack, Al and Ulrich). The Dandy Dogs are spectacularly good at their "game". Caffeine and alcohol are their chosen libations. Mostly minimal planning comes quickly. Almost every plan works. When there are problems, they improvise spectacularly.
Money is no object as a sketchy drug and weapons dealer, Pierre, who makes logistical top class arrangements. There is one battle when the team, temporarily without weapons, overpowers a much larger, well armed force (a terrific scene). The individuals switch alliances occasionally making the plot more interesting than most thrillers. Virtually every battle takes place in which the Dandy Dogs are significantly out numbered.
For my taste, there is more attention to clothing colors and fabrics than necessary. Plus there is a lot of attention to special weapons makes and models which is likely to be more than a casual reader might need. Foreshadowing is a bit heavy offering hints about what is going to happen; somehow there is hair raising on one or two necks before an activity is about to turn south.
Dangerous Games brings up plenty of surprises. There is even plausibility to imagine yourself tagging along until the team jumps into super predator mode. Many readers will appreciate the notion of emotional attachment between team members. Read and enjoy.
I absolutely loved it! I hated when I had to do other things and had to put my phone down. I got so caught up in the excitement that I just wanted to read nonstop. I have read many of Mr. Howard's Harry Stark books and you just find yourself loving Harry. Well in this series it would be Al that catches your attention, especially when he can instantly change to Nero, a deadly assassin that goes into automatic soldier mode when the situation calls for it. I also found myself really liking Lisette and I wasn't alone, the brainy beauty caught the attention of Al also but what would happen if a guy like him ever cared about somebody? The action and suspense of this book kept me right on my toes as the crew nicknamed the Dandy Dogs went from one dangerous situation to another. I haven't read the first book in the series but this didn't make any difference to my enjoyment of this book. Although I may have to go back and read it so I can learn a little bit more about the relationship between Al and Cassandra Wu another assassin that I met in this book. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys the kind of book I have described above. I received a free download of this book from the publisher. This review is totally my own honest opinion.
Second book in The Peacemaker series and it’s fast and furious from the start. With Nero back in the game on the promise of a pardon for past crimes committed, and working for and with his ex handler he seriously wonders whether it’s all worth it. When coming face to face with old adversary Casey Wu his doubts increase but even he can’t believe what he learns about her as they continue to run into one another. Is she on the same side or not? The mystery starts to unravel as they both find a common enemy in the Peacemakers and start to realise the depth and scope of these wealthy protagonists within today’s society. Whether they can win this battle remains to be seen but when another of the teams family is kidnapped they know they are going to give it their all. This is another great book in the series. Blair Howard is a really great author. I have yet to read a book of his I don’t enjoy. They are realistic in today’s society and action packed with plenty of twists and turns to keep you 8nterested. Role on Book 3. I received a free ARC in return for an honest review . In my view 5 stars is not enough. Enjoy!
Blair Howard has a long run of detective novels featuring Harry Stark and Kate Gazzara, and I'm a big fan. With this two book thriller set, he took a loss end from the stories in that world and veered into an international thriller about a British assassin and an international conspiracy. If I were a betting man, it will end with this volume, becAuse it really has nowhere to go.
His protagonist has none of the depth of charm of Stark, and his female counterpart is far less real than Gazzara. Overall, the two books seem like an exercise in coming up with improbable situations, indiscriminately killing guards and soldiers and chasing villains intent on a broad yet ill-defined power grab, all while contemplating the lonely life of the assassin. It's diasppointing, given how much I've grown to love Stark, Gazzara, their cast and crew and adventures in Chattanooga.
Sorry reading as escapism IF you have Kindle Unlimited. I wouldn't buy either book.
Excellent book. Showing a more human side to the characters, who have multiple kills to their names. The peacemakers have to be stopped . O'Neill contacts Nero with the promise of a Queen's Pardon if he does one last job - taking out another Peacemaker, Lester Doubleday. Doubleday is a billionaire, trying to gain monopoly over the lithium market. Nero recruits Lisette, a French former operative to rescue Ulrich Lowerstein, a German agent who has worked with O'Neill previously, and has been kidnapped by Doubleday for some reason. Embarking on the successful release of Ulrich, Nero is surprised to find Casey Wu on the premises. Casey has been both partner and opponent on different occasions. What will she be this time?. An engrossing tale, with some clever twists and unexpected revelations about the personal lives of these five. Well written, with attention to detail. My only complaint - I've got to wait for Blair to written the next in this fascinating series!
Dangerous Lives by Blair Howard is one of those books you stay up late and wait in line for them to release so you can be the first to read it. It’s the Star Wars movie kind of book that everyone talks about the next day at school. It pits two arch enemies against each other, then forces them to work with each other against an enemy so diabolical that they agree that they need each other to destroy the force of evil that they’re up against. First, a kidnapping and a murder, then an invitation to work for his old handler send Al a.k.a. Nero back out into the streets to take down the Peacemakers, a group dedicated to taking over the world in their own twisted way. Along the way, he is paired with a French ex special forces operative named Lisette. Follow these two as they go from one challenge to the next, ultimately finding that those they trusted weren’t what they seemed and some that they didn’t trust were on their side the whole time. Or were they? You decide.
Cassandra "Casey" Wu And Albert "Nero" Westwood Again Save The World!
When you are fighting a worldwide terrorist organization you don't have the luxury of taking life easy. And with the Peacemakers-an inappropriate moniker if there ever was one-on the move again in their quest for world dominance, life isn't ever easy. When Jack O'Neill, ex-MI6 operative, again calls for help against the Peacemakers. But a new crew is being formed and Nero has to get them all jelled into a cohesive fighting force. That means getting everyone in the same frame of mind, a task not easily accomplished. This is critical since they will be five against unknown players in numbers not known. Oh, and they also must rescue Casey's niece, Lucy. They do get Lucy but will they be able to stop the Peacemakers?
( Format : Audiobook ) "A secret shared is a secret exposed." Once again, Albert Westwood, aka Nero, is reluctantly pulled from his secret retirement to help his old MI6 boss, Jack O'Neill tackle a terrorist conspiracy. His reward to be a pardon issued by Her Majesty, the Queen. This is book two in the series, and action packed with Tom Lennon narrating. His fine performance seems to perfectly inhabit Al.'s personality and his warm, lagubriously accented voice helps infuse the whole with both tension and calm to bring everything to life, although his English accents need a little work but are not overly intrusive.
My thanks to the rights holder of Dangerous Games,The Peacemaker II, who, at my request, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy of the book. Most enjoyable and Recommended.
A fast moving full of action story that will keep one reading in one setting. One will hardly be able to put the book down. Book has the familiar characters as well as some new characters. The action never stops. Some new characters are introduced in this story which adds new dimensions to the continuing story. This story is one that will keep the reader finishing in one session. Now we are ready for book 3 to find out what happens to the entire crew. Who will retire, get married, or turn against the crew? Seems like Al and Casey will retire and Ulrich has been programmed to betray Jack’s war with the Peacemakers.
I love reading about Nero and Casey and how they interact. It is suspected that the Peacemakers( a group that wanted to remake the world) is back. Albert Westwood (Nero) is talked into being on a team by his old handler Jack O'Neil. He is to meet another team member and rescue Ulrich in Morocco. During this mission they run into Casey Wu, a former comrade of Neros. After the rescue they get information from Ulrich that sends them all over to find out who or what is all involved in the Peacemaker hunt. Lots of action, twist and turns and one heck of a hard book to put down. If you enjoy reading books that keep you interested and hard to put down this is a must read.
Albert Westwood is back, despite wanting to retire quietly he is tempted back by his old boss Jack O'Neal for another mission against the 'Peacemakers' a group of super wealthy businessmen whose only interest is to grab as much power for themselves as possible, at any cost. Albert or 'Nero' as he is known is paired up with Lisette Caron a beautiful French ex special forces operative and Merlin an arms dealer, and crook, but who has lots of contacts. Casey Wu, Nero's old partner, now his sworn enemy also appears, and we learn something new about her. This is a thrill a minute read, with references back to James Bond and Mission Impossible stories, except that in this book the good guys don't always escape uninjured and sometimes the bad guys are on top. As always with Blair Howard's book the writing is impeccable, the characters are brilliant, and there is just a little humour to lighten the mix. A great thriller from an author who is on top of his game. I received an advance copy of this book, but have voluntarily written this honest review.

Twisted games of intrigue. A so called Peacemaker acts against friends and family of those who battled against that movement
The results are devastating.
There are many fates far worse than death for warriors. Watching those they love be decimated and destroyed is certainly on that list
Tangled mixed alliances
Significant links in the network are damaged or destroyed. But some bad actors are still out there. What damage did the Peacemakers ultimately wreak on those who fought against them?
Another action packed adventure bringing Wu and Westwood together again. The thrills are present on almost every page of this well written story. The characters are constantly moving from one crisis to the next making it almost impossible to put this book down.
Jack O'Neill brings a team of killers together to take down the Peacemakers. On their first mission the Dandy Dogs , as the team has been named, runs into Catherine Wu who joins forces with them to rescue her sister and niece.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
SAVE YOUR MONEY...This is not up to his usual caliber. This is a book of a huge number of serial assassinations...that’s all it is...a bunch of gore...and it does drag on and on. Absolutely nothing to recommend it. What a disappointment!! And to add insult to injury, it’s a bit of a cliffhanger...just a trap to get you to buy the next book. I’ve read all his books, and especially his Harry Starke as well as his Kate Gazzara series are excellent...but not this series. Don’t encourage him to write anymore like this.
Following on from the previous outing Westwood and wu meet again under different circumstances eventually agreeing novel to judge for yourself on a common enemy whilst jack o’ Neil recruits others in an attempt to end the conflict with the peacemakers A well prepared plot with lots of surprises and plenty of action , I can imagine this as a blockbuster movie it should appeal to the vast majority of thriller readers . Well done to the author and I suggest you read this excellent
The next book in the Peacemaker series does not disappoint. From the first paragraph, the reader will be hard-pressed to figure out the next move of any character. I see sinister ambitions in the antagonists for the future. I, personally am curious to see where Wu and Lucy come into play in the next book. Surely, we are not finished seeing Wu. Nero is off too be a potato farmer? No way!! Blair has a great sense of humor.
I’ve really enjoyed the Harry Starke and Kate Gazzara series. Would this be as good? I was not disappointed. In fact it may become my favorite series. The characters are well developed and relatable. The plot - well full of action and suspense. Hard to put down. I kept looking for a place where I could stop reading. I highly recommend it and am looking forward to the next in the series. Great read
What a great story the excitement makes it a great read. Jack O'Neill who is ex M16 offers Albert Westwood who goes by Nero another ex M16 operative a pardon if he does one last job. He is joined by Casy Wu who is ex C I A. and two others. They are after a group called the peacemakers who a rich ruthless group trying to take over the world. They travel many different countries in pursuit of this group with non stop action. Denise
Dangerous Games (The Peacemaker Book 2), my twenty-sixth read from author Blair Howard, and the second in his excellent new series. Well-written and enjoyable, edge of your seat Espionage Thriller fiction, a genre I find myself leaning towards. As much as I like Harry Starke & Kate Gazzara, I look forward to his next book no matter the main character. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Dangerous Games was a truly thrilling book. Each page, each chapter gave you a new adventure, a new problem that was as the title said, dangerous. But the Dandy Dogs through one means or another came up with a way of beating the Peacemakers. Not unscathed...injuries and danger round every corner. A must Read.. Blair Howard is a master tactician when it comes to Dangerous Games!
This book has non-stop action from beginning the the very end. The characters are well-crafted and each likeable in his or her own way. Venues range throughout numerous towns, cities in several countries. Mr. Howard's writing is easy to follow and the events throughout flow easily from one scene to another. This book is a genuine pleasure to read. I received an ARC. This is my honest assessment of this delightful novel.
I always expect a great read with any of Blair Howards books. This one is no exception. A fast paced and action packed thrill ride from beginning unto end. You wont want to put this one down even for a potty break. Its that good. A great read with you getting to know the characters more in depth. Really liked. Received ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
Another great action filled thriller by Blair Howard with an exceptional storyline and a terrific cast of characters. Very well written read with plenty of non-stop action, lots of suspense, and several twists. A very enjoyable story that was quite the page turner. Highly recommended book and series.
Continuing efforts to shutdown Peacemakers, Jack ONeill organizes a team to undermine a terrorist event. With a poor airdrop, the team enters the battle foray. With subterfuge and crazy half made plans, the team advances.
This is a team, made in the image of JamesBond and a team he might have organized. The old themes of politics and power; right versus wrong.
Professional killers (albeit the good guys) take on the bad guys.
Great pace. Interesting characters. Great settings. Dynamic movement and action. Easy read.... the pages just keep turning. If you like action and international intrigue, you will find plenty....Rated R for violence.
If you like fast paced nail bitting entertainment, then this is one book you won't want to miss. It's action packed from cover to cover with Nero and Wu working together again to solve a top World problem. Does this book see the end of Nero and will Al emerge a free man? Well, you will just have to read the book and see for yourself.
