Sadie Bishop hasn't had the easiest of lives but she's making the best of it. Living in NYC, working at a nightclub and getting through her days. Then a man walks into her life and changes everything making Sadie question exactly what she is. Things just got way more interesting...
Nika Gray is living her happily-ever-after with her family in sunny California. She loves stories that are both supernatural and have a big swoon factor to them. Her heroines are strong, strong-willed and sassy and are fully appreciated by their mates.
I had read Book #1 and #2 of this series, and only now noticed that there was a prequel. It was short, sweet and boasts a very hot encounter in an office in a club. *fans face* Nothing earth shattering, but definitely laying some type of groundwork for Book #1.
As a prequel, I don't know that this book added a whole lot to the main story. Granted, it was super short and consisted of nothing more than a short glimpse into Sadie's life "before", as a human, and a short—very colorful, very unexplained—sex scene.
But what really cemented my low rating, was how rough the writing was. It was full of spelling and punctuation errors, the dialogues were terrible, and the flow was, quite honestly, awful. This novella felt very much like a first, uncorrected draft more than anything.
It could easily have been added as a flashback scene on Sparking Magic, given the book is not that long to begin with. But, at least it was free.
This was an extremely quick read. However, it is a very intriguing storyline. It makes you want to read the full series. It is just a small bit to wet your whistle. Sadie seems to go through a lot during her young life but is still standing strong. The ending definitely ends in a cliffhanger that absolutely say oh you have to definitely read the next. I am on the train to read the next book as I absolutely have to know what happens.
This was a good prequel, definitely made me interested in the series. I was surprised to see the rest was based on the magic academy trope (Yes, even despite the name, I'm dense sometimes) which is not something I'm usually drawn to read, but this was good enough to consider it.
I was pulled in from the very beginning and the way you lead me on that merry chase of a happy ending, only to psych me out! I absolutely love your style!! Can't wait for more!!
I was disappointed because I didn’t realize this was just a “tease”. I thought that this was the whole story. Otherwise it WAS a great start to an interesting story.
She grew up in state care going from foster home to foster home till she aged out. She collected other kids that grew up like her to help them start a better life. Until one of the screwed her over.
