Dealing with Resheph: Spirit of Trouble
Resheph is mentioned seven times in Scripture. A fallen seraph and throne guardian, it is identified in this volume as a hidden face of Leviathan. Symbolised as a stag and an archer, Resheph is connected with flames and fire, fever, financial distress, mental illness, drought and scorching heat as well as the underworld.
Jesus warred against this spirit at least seven times. It’s easy to miss these battles because it’s easy to miss the prophecies Jesus was fulfilling and the mention of Resheph associated with them.

For twenty years, I was the coordinator of an annual camp for children based around The Chronicles of Narnia. That experience shaped a lot of my thinking about how readers enjoy fantasy.
Like CS Lewis, my fantasy story Many-Coloured Realm began with a picture in my mind's eye: a boy without arms floating in a field of stars and faced with an impossible choice.
My non-fiction series beginning with God's Poetry can be traced back to the observation that Lewis comes from the Welsh word for lion. The discovery of name covenants led to the discovery of threshold covenants, as well as many other long-forgotten aspects of our Judeo-Christian heritage.
I love exploring words, mathematics and names. All of these combine in my books, whether they are fiction or non-fiction, or whether they're for adults or children, whether they're academic in tone or primarily devotional. I hope my readers always come away from my books with a renewed delight for the world around us and a child-like wonder for its awesome aspects.

November 18, 2020I used to think I had one non-fiction book in me, with half-an-original idea. That was God's Poetry: The Identity and Destiny Encoded In Your Name and I decided to put it on paper, just to get it out of my system. I wanted to clear the decks in order to write children's fiction. Well, ten years later and unexpected ideas keep spilling out onto the decks from hidden storage holds and I'm not expecting it all to be tidied away any time soon.
Dealing with Resheph, like Dealing with Ziz: Spirit of Forgetting, is one of those books that wasn't in the plan. At the beginning of this year, I had never heard of any spirit named Resheph. I simply came across the word while researching for Dealing with Leviathan: Spirit of Retaliation: Strategies for the Threshold #5 and I thought: "I wonder how that's spelled in Hebrew. Because it looks like it might possibly have one of the words for threshold built into it. Wouldn't that be interesting?"
And so the adventure began. Originally my intention was to include a chapter on Resheph in the book on Leviathan but that quickly became untenable, due to the volume of information I was unearthing.
This is probably the most different book I've written so far. And considering how very different that people tell me my books are, that's saying something. I expect there will be lots in it that people disagree with, but I don't mind that. In a year when God isn't answering prayer swiftly on a national level, it's worth understanding that there is a spirit tasked with ensuring that God is honoured in prayer. And when He is not, there are symptoms that will be evident on the national stage: drought, fire, fever and disease, warfare and civil unrest, financial chaos, mental illness. Sounds like 2020, right? What we see today is mainly the work of one spirit who troubles us because our prayers are tainted with dishonour.
