Christianity is about Christ. One of the most famous verses in the Bible declares that God loved and gave, so that if we believe in the one God gave, we will have eternal life. That might seem familiar, but has the truth of the verse really gripped our hearts? In The Little Him Book, Peter Mead draws our focus back to the One who is at the center of our faith. But more than that, it is a call to make Him the center of your identity, worship, love and life.
This little book is all about getting to know Jesus better and delighting in Him more.
"The good news of Christianity is not simply that there is a way to pay for the guilt in all of our lives. Jesus gives us much more than a legal loophole. He gives us himself!"
In 10 short chapters, Peter Mead shows us what it looks like for Jesus to give us himself, as we see him as the Son, the Deliverer, the Baby and some other things. Each chapter ends with a passage for further reflection and a hymn. All together, this makes a good devotional book.
Although I'm still not sure why a book with less than 100 pages needs NINE endorsements at the start...
A good, easy-to-read introduction to Christian doctrine. Not the exhortation to praise our wonderful Lord that I was looking for, but would recommend to new Christians because it does that bit well.
The Little Him Book: Looking At The Jesus Who Makes Our Hearts Sing by Peter Mead offers a simple and accessible exploration of the person and work of Jesus, perfect for those seeking a devotional that brings Christ’s significance into focus. Each chapter includes a reflection on a key aspect of Jesus’ identity, a Scripture passage, questions to ponder, and a hymn to encourage worship.
The book reads like a series of sermons, which makes it easy to follow but perhaps not as theologically deep as some might expect. While it’s a helpful tool for personal reflection or quiet time, those looking for more profound or original theological insights may find it a bit too familiar. The inclusion of hymns and practical reflections makes it ideal for anyone wanting a devotional that leads to worship, though it may not provide the same level of depth that more scholarly or narrative-driven works on Jesus might.
In the end, The Little Him Book is a solid resource for those wanting to re-centre their hearts on Christ and explore His roles in an accessible, devotional format.
Each chapter encourages the reader to focus on one of the roles of Jesus after a brief discussion the reader is invited to read a passage of scripture whilst considering this role of Jesus and then given a hymn to read/sing.
It's a good/encouraging little book to start the day with - best to do just one chapter per day so you have time to think on it and take it in.
A little book to warm you heart. Each short chapter looks at a different aspect of Jesus' identity and why that's good news for us. As well as unpacking the theme, each chapter has a passage to meditate on & a song to sing afterwards. Suitable for new or mature Christians.
An amazing book that brings you closer to God through focussing on each role of Jesus. A great book of devotion to learn about how Jesus isn't just a comfort character but a man of love and compassion. A great read and recommend to anyone investigation who Jesus really is.
Have given away two copies already. This is well focused and attractively written. Ten engaging encounters with the living god. Encouragement for believers but apposite reading for the curious. Love it.
A good meditation/devotional book. It does help your heart to sing by showing different aspects of Jesus. Loved it. Fell in love with the lyrics of hymns all over again.
