IN 1883, A MASSIVE ERUPTION CONVINCES SOME IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD.
AND TODAY, ANOTHER LEADS TO A DESPERATE STRUGGLE TO SAVE AN ISOLATED CIVILIZATION.

Archaeology Professors James Acton and Laura Palmer are fleeing for their lives, pursued by criminals hellbent on possessing a valuable find, when an eruption the likes of which hasn’t been seen in over a century overwhelms both the professors and their pursuers.

The Actons find themselves marooned on a forbidden island, populated by an uncontacted tribe known for their violent reaction to any intruders, leaving the survivors fleeing another foe.

But when this isolated tribe comes under attack itself, the professors are left with an impossible choice.

Save themselves while they await rescue, letting these ancient peoples die, or risk death by revealing themselves and intervening.

There are a number of reasons why I chose to buy/read this Dr. and Dr. Indiana Jones-type adventure novel: archaeological, anthropological, meteorological, vulcanological (?), to name the obvious. And, to be sure, it does not fail to satisfy those expectations. However, the dialogue is riddled with rather unimaginative cliches, and the overall writing style is somewhat ham-handed. I will probably pass on any of this author’s MANY other titles.

Archaeologists, James Acton and his wife Laura Palmer, are in the Andaman islands in the Indian Ocean investigating an old shipwreck. Inside this old shipwreck is found a stash of old gold bars. So Acton and Palmer begin to move the gold from the shipwreck to their boat with the intention of getting it valued and hopefully into a safe place. But the Andaman Islands are also overrun with pirates and they start chasing the archaeologists in order to steal the gold.

The archaeology team grab what they can and flee - but as luck (or in this case - bad luck) would have it, a large Volcano in Indonesia erupts and blows its top. Which also means a massive tsunami - just like the one that happened back on Boxing Day 2004.

The teams boat along with the pirates chasing them, are all swept up by the tsunami wave and after being banged around, they are all deposited on the shores of North Sentinel Island.

If you have never heard of North Sentinel Island - this is the Forbidden Island. There is a tribe of indigenous people who live on this island and who want nothing to do with modern civilisation.

Previous attempts by westerners to visit the island or communicate with the locals do not end well. The westerners have all been killed.

After the team arrives on the island, the island becomes a battleground between 3 groups. The archaeologists, the pirates and the natives.

The pirates have guns and they want the gold.
The archaeologists have gold, and no guns and just want to get off the island ASAP.
The natives have no guns, only bow & arrows and spears, and want nothing to do with the "outsiders".

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

If you keep this in mind as you read, then I am sure you can figure out, how James, Laura and their team survive several days on the "Forbidden Island."

An excellent story. It only took me 4 hours to read this!!

A dual timeline thriller.

I have been harsh on awarding only three stars because rave reviews led me to anticipate a thrill ride on a par with the best of James Rollins. First what I really liked about the book. Each chapter is just the right length to keep you turning the pages and maintain keen interest. Characters are relatable and you want to root for their survival. The natural disaster is the most thrilling part of the book, well depicted. The plot is spot on for the thrill ride, lost gold rediscovered, an forbidden island populated by hostile natives and a gang of merciless pirates armed to the teeth. Unfortunately the author fails to make the most of these very promising ingredients. There are no real cliffhanger moments once the professors are on the island. The ending was also too predictable.

I truly like the Acton books and have grown fond of the Acton/Kane/Delta series as whole. Once again the do-gooders Acton & Palmer get into it deep with a little help from their friends. They again have to use their professional expertise & their survival training from a forgotten SAS soldier to get them through this situation sparked by the greed of others that gets worse by a natural disaster. Trouble always finds them, but they seem to have a great trust circle with friends that have extended into family. If history, action, and colorful characters interest you then reading the full series start to finish will not disappoint you.

Be prepared to stay up all night to read this til the end

Rob has done a masterful job of crafting this very exciting edition of James and Laura Action, once again in the thick of things. This adventure begins at a black tie fund raiser and somehow winds up on the forbidden island off the coast of India. With volcanoes, a shipwreck dig, found gold and bad guys galore this one will capture your attention to the end. Enjoy.

They just keep getting better!

James and Laura always start out in an innocent situation that quickly turns into the next adventure. They go from a black
tie event to a typhoon and discovering a ship full of lost gold.
Surviving the typhoon was nothing compared to the perils that came next. Non stop action, and hard to put down the book.

Probably the best book in the James Acton series I’ve read. There’s was non stop action all the time and I really could imagine this being made into a film. The characters are well bedded in now and as each makes their appearance you almost cheer!! Bring in the next one. These professors are never going to have a quiet life 😉

Mr. Kennedy has done it again! Every Time I finish a James Acton adventure I feel that Mr.Kennedy has nailed it. I always think he won't be able to come up with another... Then he does! The storyline is believable, exciting, and awe inspiring. I love how he weaves historical events into these stories!

This is another great James Acton thriller. As usual the doctors James Acton and his wife Laura Palmer are involved in an archeological treasure hunt when a massive eruption maroon them on a prohibited island. Lots of action and adventure.

Fascinating story built upon the Krakatoa eruption in 1883. As usual, the author goes back and forth between the past and the present, interspersing this with the usual banter between Delta Force and the Professors - a wonderful, relaxing read.

Book 29

Book 29 was a fun read and had a few errors. The plot and characters are developed well and I like the backstory and inhabitants of the island. Some of the story was a bit predictable, but overall was exciting and had a few good twists in the mix.

Another thrilling installment of the beloved professors that again weaves a piece of history, the 1883 eruption of the Krakatoa volcano as the backdrop for the story.
