The Hemorrhage Virus has made its way to New Zealand

Jack Gee is camping and hiking in the mountains of New Zealand when a phone call from his wife, Dee, alerted him to some kind of epidemic that started in America had spread to major cities around the world, and fears were that it had reached their island nation. The victims of the epidemic seemed to turn into raving maniacs with an overwhelming hunger for flesh and blood. Survivors of the attacks quickly succumbed to the illness, becoming monsters themselves.

Jack's trek back to join Dee was a journey through Hell, encountering the monsters and other survivors fleeing to safety, but where was safe? Jack and Dee's story is an amazing tale of danger and bravery, combined with a lot of luck. Dee found the depravity of humankind exhibited even in the desperate search for safety, but she also found good people and saved a few along the way. Jack's journey was interrupted with his capture by what he had learned to call Variants. Through desperate situations, Jack and Dee's story displays their foresight and ingenuity, their love for each other and for people they meet along the way is the thread that binds these stories together.

Excellently depicted from a New Zealand point of view, Adrian has brought the action to this small island nation. The fight goes on and people will find ways to survive.

These books are well-written with great action scenes and endearing characters struggling to understand and survive in a post-apocalyptic world populated by infected monsters and worse - human collaborators assisting the Variants against their own kind.

I originally read this story through the Kindle Worlds program for the Extinction Cycle world of Nicholas Sansbury Smith. When the program ended, longer, new and improved versions of Adrian's books are now re-released and they are amazing! If you liked the Extinction Cycle Series, you will love Extinction New Zealand Series. If you haven't read any Extinction Cycle books, you'll want

A Challenge of Love and Endurance

Before I give my review I thought I’d give abit of a history lessons to new readers. This trilogy came about from a now cancelled amazon program that got up-incoming authors to work with professional indie authors to expand already existing story universes created by the professional. It was between Adrian Smith and Nicholas Sansbury Smith(creator of the exciting cycle universe) they work together to give an already amazing series a new take on how people in the feast of the world did battle with variants.

I now can tell you has I read the trilogy when come paired to the main series that was straight forwards with an almost day by day of end of the world. This series was more of a gut puncher has it throws you into first days after the spread of the virus to weeks then months has chacthers have to rely on luck or quick thinking to over come ever changing dangers lay the main series the chacthers where stedly drawn into new enemies has they learned to battle them.

An has I read I truly felt like I was exposed to the wonders of NZ land and culture that the author gave good choice to use the native words of NZ has it enlightened my vocabulary so thank you. From there it was the vefited backstories you gave the chacthers that truly made me see what lead to each chacthers choices in there actions from the antagonist trying to rule to the Renegades never leaving someone behind. Do it did fill abit a rushed near the endings of both books 2&3 in how you exposed things to the readers(that it felt abit hollow like the secret in the ship didn’t come has anything hugh but more of an odd filling of ‘what the is happing’ has you could’ve tried abit more foreshadowing in how lead to the captains designing).

P.S.
Do I do wise you had gave Max a more explained end has to what happened to him near the end that he kind of just disappeared near the end of book 3!!!

Wow factor +10!

Extinction New Zealand is a special apocalyptic series in so many ways. It’s set in New Zealand. The virus changes people into beings like animals, with some variety. The virus is only shared through bite, not scratches. And then there’s Jack and Dee, married couple. I am horribly jealous of the wonderful relationship they have. And the kids they pick up along the way. Each and every one is memorable! The author cleverly blended in Maori customs and history together with geographical and social facts. At the start I was racing to google things but it ate into reading time. The ending did justice to the entire series and I was left with a smile. All my favourite characters had a part in the finale! Do read this story, there’s plenty of blood, guts and gore but it is a fight to the death.

Firstly, I should declare that I'm a big fan of The Extinction Cycle series by Nicholas Sansbury Smith - which spawned this NZ series. In fact (sheepishly - not a NZ pun), The Extinction Cycle series was one of the key drivers motivating me to move to ebooks.

While this NZ series is readable by itself, I feel that at least a little grounding in The Extinction Cycle series lends itself to a deeper appreciation of these. This series provides some background context for the story, but The Extinction Cycle proper provides a lot of additional (and visceral) content that establishes the 'world'. This makes sense as this series was originally written as part of the Kindle Worlds experiment and therefore was preceded, foundationally, by The Extinction Cycle series.

As with the select other Kindle World series arising from The Extinction Cycle that I have read, this one is worthy edition to The Extinction Cycle albeit with its own unique storytelling. It was also a little more poignant for me as I live over the 'ditch' from NZ. If you are a fan of The Extinction Cycle, this is a must-read addition.

Warning: There is 4th book in the series that I'm aware of albeit sets some considerable time after these three books. It is on my list to read, but I have not managed to get there yet.

To the folks who said this is World War Z meets The Walking Dead....... You didn't read these.
Aliens and Predator, would be the correct comparison. In the final book, as at least two scenes are right out of Aliens.
Even the author knows it is not a Zombie/Virus story. On the rare occasion the virus or cure is mentioned, it is like it was added after the book was written. It feels so forced.

If you are looking for a Zombie/Virus story- this is not the book for you. If you like alien EOTW, ignore the virus nonsense and enjoy a good tale.

I am giving this two stars because I am not an alien fan. I finished the series because I became invested in three of the lesser characters. Needed to know what happened to them.

Fantastic story

I have to say this is one of my favorite reads in this genre, lots of action, super scary monsters and characters that you can both love and hate. I’ll not go into the story as the authors blurb is very well done explaining the story. I had a very hard time putting this book down so I could do my chores done or get some sleep. I’d give it six stars if I could. Well done Mr Smith looking forward to seeing what you write next.

This was an excellent series! I enjoyed all of it, which I amazing. Jack is camping with his phone turned off. When he gets back to civilization he gets messages from his wife that a virus has been spreading and he needs to get home. The plan is to pack up and go to a secluded cabin they have. Plans go wrong. People turn into monsters. Dee turns into a hero. It really is a good series.

This was soooo exciting. Really realistic too. In terms of house a virus could spread like wildfire, it’s reminiscent of how quickly Covid-19 took hold. Obviously that didn’t mutate people into bloody thirsty monsters but still. I liked these stories a lot, had my heart pounding out my chest. They were fun books to listen to and I would recommend if you like zombie outbreak type of books.

Started reading this as there aren't many books set in NZ in this genre that I enjoy.
First book was not bad albeit a bit generic.
I got just about half way through the 2nd book and I couldn't get past the unnecessary political/cultural references. The disrespectful depictions of the treaty put me off.

This is an excellent anthology. Set in New Zealand we watch as the hemorrhage virus hit and watch in horror as the terror emerges. Adrian J Smith has done an absolutely brilliant job with three books. Don’t pass this on up.
