4.5 stars Lesli Richardson is the writer behind the curtain of her better-known pen name, Tymber Dalton. As many of you know I adore Tymber's work hence why I was so eager to read Poly!
The blurb let's the reader know this is so much more than boy meets girl and they live happily ever after, this is a read that expands happy beyond two partners.
Arlo and Zoey are married and raising her son from a prior marriage Lucas. I am going to diverge for a second and say the use of Lucas throughout the story was masterful and will pull at the readers heartstrings many times throughout the book.
Ok back to the LOVE ..... Arlo and Nolan have been friends since high school and well they love each other.. well the three of them.... Arlo, Zoey and Nolan love each other. This book is about the how they make that work as their relationship comes out in the open.
This author knows how to write relationships and I think that is so key for a book like this because for most who read it the dynamic is beyond anything they can image for themselves. The author will have you believing Arlo, Zoey and Nolan belong together!
Side note and I do not want to spoil anything so I will just say I love the relevance of the story line with Nolan's daughter, Katie!
I was lucky enough to read this book uninterpreted and it made my heart soar!
Easily the best triad relationship book I’ve read this year, or in a long time (published in 2019 but I didn't find it until 2021). I like it because … 1. MMF. And the two MM are MM. None of this toxic male bullshit I read in so many menage books about how the two men in the menage don't ever touch each other and have the emotional intimacy of fellow defensive linebackers. These two are intimate and emotionally mature about it (mostly). 2. It’s set with contemporary people in Florida. No aliens, dystopia, post-apocalyptic, billionaire pretense to force a context where poly is allowed. I mean, I like those fantasies just fine, but those offer plausible deniability if you are curious about a poly relationship and don't want to admit it. With this book, the author puts it right there: school pickups, custody arguments, divorce, and renting a moving van. 3. It features a long-term Poly relationship arc, something that I rarely see. The book is not a ll new relationship energy or some revolutionary discovery that three people can be happy together.
This is not a guidebook to poly relationships and I'm sure it's simplified for a romance novel, but I appreciated this glance at how a contemporary menage relationship might actually be successful long-term.
At least 75% of this book is one of the three main characters explaining their relationship history to the reader. I felt cheated because I didn’t get to actually experience any of their relationship development or growth, all I got was what basically amounted to an essay on the subject of poly relationships and the challenges this group faced due to toxic exes.
Any sort of meaningful character interaction related to relationships growth or development was glossed over - I was told the sex was great and how much each character loved that the other two loved each other so much but I was never really shown this through any meaningful character interaction or dialogue. It was all mostly just reflection by one character. Even the resolution of some major plot points (the custody battles) was only given a quick one-sentence summary by whoever was narrating. The toxic exes were very one-dimensional and ended up being a rather disappointing addition to the narrative because they really didn’t slow down any of the main story progression.
This book would’ve been a LOT better if it were a couple hundred pages longer and included some of the early relationship building and the ups and downs that this triad experienced rather than having the characters explain it all to us. This is why I felt completely cheated and really disliked this book.
Lastly, for the record, the steam level of this book is not worth bragging about. I do not count being told that the female was given multiple orgasms as any sort of measurable amount of steam and that was pretty much how each intimate interaction was described.
4.5 Stars Poly is a standalone and is written by Tymber Dalton’s alter ego. This is an enjoyable threesome story and is Zoey, Arlo and Nolan’s story.
This story could possibly happen in real life. Although they are in a triad relationship. These characters have to make a go of life. They aren’t rich, they have money problems, they have kids. I loved that Zoey, Arlo and Nolan are in their 40’s, not 20 somethings. Arlo and Nolan have a long term relationship and Arlo and Zoey have been married for more than 10 years. There is no cheating here among the 3 of them.
I have read a few of Tymber Dalton’s books and I will look for more of her books as well as more of Lesli Richardson’s books. Oh and it was great to read about things happening in Florida, my home state. A place that I am living very far away from at this time. I miss Publix!
An MMF romance, where Zoey, Arlo & Nolan in a poly relationship. They’re just starting to plan to possibly build a house of their own to live in together, when Zoey’s son is thrown out of his bio dad’s house for being gay.
They’re all dealing with a bunch of things... moving in together, kids, crazy exes... Despite all this, it really nice reading about a completely well adjusted poly relationship.
It’s a great, feel good book about a triad relationship, which is a nice change from other similar books. Here, they are all on the same side, ready to fight for each other & protect one another. It’s simply... beautiful.
I'd have liked to see both more history and post-HEA future as well as deeper knowledge of the characters, whom we really don't learn much about) and their relationship.
Jumping between the past and present was a bit confusing at times, although the latter may have been just me and my current not-so-good state if mind.
But overall, it was a compelling story that made me root for the three and their kids (and cheer every time things went their way) and I devoured it in two sittings, literally.
A nice relationship coming to terms with Real Life. Zoey is married to Arlo, whose "best friend" Nolan is a partner to both of them. A bit of drama when Lucas, Zoey's teenage son from a previous marriage comes to live with them; and a bigger bit of drama when Nolan manages to restrain his ex-wife from removing Katie, their 6 year old daughter, to the other side of the country. All the while getting used to living together in a 'proper' poly household :) Good stuff.
I highly enjoyed this book. There's way more than I was expecting. Three lovers who have a complicated past, but are now together in secret. Two kids, a controlling ex, and plenty of things to navigate to get their happily ever after.
I really liked the history and how everyone came together. I love the heat between them all. And I love the children and all they bring to the story.
It's a great romance that explores the poly lifestyle.
This is truly a beautiful story about friendship and love and how when you have the right people by your side you can get thru anything. This story also shows you that you can love more than one person in your life.
Take life by the horns and love who you want, when you want and always have faith.
3.5 stars. Poly group. MMF. After all the steamy erotica books I read, this was a sweet very adult book. Not much steam This was a story of what normally happens after love is found and they are figuring out their every day lives with Ex spouses, jobs, kids, moving..... I enjoyed the characters and it left me wanting more.
Leslie Richardson brings to life the love and possibilities that can be when a healthy relationship makes all the difference against any odds. Arlo, Nolan and Zoey are a wonderful triad. Throughout this story they show love doesn't come in only one way, and being true to who you are, and those you love, are the only things that matter. Poly is a read anyone should read for that message.
I absolutely loved that Zoey, Arlo, and Nolan had their own POV!!!!! I love books like that and it makes it so much easier to see their points of views instead of just one POV!!!!! I’m so glad Jerilyn and Bill got what was coming to them!!!! Serves them right!!!! Looking forward to reading more from Lesli Richardson!!!!!
I love this book which tells the story of an established triad as they go through the trials and tribulations of becoming a family. Having Zoey, Arlo and Nolan telling the story from their points of view made the book more enjoyable for me. A sexy, heartfelt read!
A very matter of fact description of a menage houshold (MFM), where the drama is provided by vengeful narcissistic exes and the coming out of a homosexual son, presented alternating from three points of view.
Another great read by Lesli Richardson. It is amazing when an author can write in such a way as to keep you engaged in other the characters. I laughed and cried with them. I anxiously await whatever she releases next.
I’m never disappointed with Leslie’s books. Whenever I’m in a book funk, I know that I can pick up one of her books and get lost in her characters. She always creates such a real feel that you can relate to!
I really liked this story and the way that the Poly relationship was represented. Open communication is key for any relationship but even more so with a Poly. Loved how the story ended and made my heart happy.
Good story, but it seemed rushed to me. Not a lot of details, lots of questions left unanswered, but all total a good read. Does seem like a viable storyline and seems to work out for all involved (good thing we can lose ourselves where everything works out for the best.
Decent romance book but I feel like it could have been over about 3/4 of the way through. The characters have been in a relationship for many years so there not a lot of character development. Easy read just not as engaging as other books out there.
I enjoyed the story line of this a lot. It had a really good flow and tackled some big issues that are unfortunately coming in divorce. The spice level was low but the book overall was good.
This glimpse into the day to day life of a poly relationship and all the pieces that go with it really made me think. So many possibilities of backlash, but the end result was worth it.
I came for the smut but what I ended up reading was a pretty wholesome depiction of polyamory. I absolutely love the representation of a non monogamous relationships in a positive drama-free light, but dropping it to 3 stars because I didn't find it very steamy.
