Out of work and plagued by visions, Alyssa returns home to Georgia to reconnect with friends and family... and to help search for the missing girl. There, she makes several startling discoveries about herself, her newfound abilities, and the fate of missing children from across the South.
IN THE END, ALYSSA WILL DISCOVER HER TRUE CALLING...
Led by her newfound psychic instincts and utilizing her commendable outdoor skills, Alyssa will lead federal agents across the Appalachians in hot pursuit of those who prey on the innocent...
4.5 stars. This book was a surprise in a very good way. This was a very good story, very different from the other midlife paranormal fare out there and I liked I even though it dealt with a very tough subject of child trafficking. The main character using her psychic abilities to track and help recover kids and capture the bad guys and also not being TSTL was a treat.
This is an interesting story written in a reality style narrative rather than in dramatic fictional flair. Though I’m from way up north, my childhood rural world included people who, from necessity, hunted for their meat and my own family fished, had gardens, canned and preserved so I could relate to the Southern lifestyle Alyssa, the laid off event planner and her cousin Jasmine, the law student, grew up in.
The author grounds the story of Alyssa becoming psychic in today’s bizarre new normal by including the challenge of turkey hunting, today’s pandemic (ha, without calling it that) and the resulting devastation of an economic downturn that deeply affects many characters in the story. I also appreciated the way the two cousins plus the two detectives they team up with act in a procedural police manner rather than stealing all the glory with brash acts of heroism. Child trafficking is terrible and this story handled the topic in a sensitive, engaging and empathic way.
Good start for a new writer found on Kindle Unlimited, looking forward to the next book in the series.
Enjoyed the story the way other people might enjoy an episode of a popular TV series - nice entertainment, nothing heavy. But at about the 50% mark, it was as if the proofreader just quit. I submitted the first few errors to the reviewers, but then quit because it was just too cumbersome.
That sort of thing jars a reader right out of being immersed in the story and interferes with the flow of the book. If they'd take a couple hours to fix those problems, I'd give it another star.
A wonderful first book in a new cozy mystery series featuring a psychic. The storyline is well written and the mystery keeps you wondering when an how it well be solved. Intriguing characters flesh out this storybased in the south. For readers who enjoy unusual good mysteries this is the book for you.
If there can be such a thing as believable "Paranormal Fiction", this is it. Just as one would imagine someone with psychic abilities would act & react. Nothing over the top. Just a (para)normal lead character and a straight forward plot. It was much too short. Waiting for the next one already!
I am going to start with the first eight chapters are depressing. I like stories that are light hearted, rom com, mystery and humorous. Just not my cup of tea.
Wow my first by D.C. Young and I couldn't put it down. Chopping at the bit for more. I enjoyed the story line and it really touched home with everything going on now these days. Great read.
Enjoyed the story especially the hunting details; however, I missed the descriptions of the characters. Got the details of the Hanna, but no descriptions of Alyssa, Jasmine, Ezra, or Marco.
