This is such a positive parenting book! I just LOVE it and know I am going to dip into time and time again! With sections on every area of family life it is sure to resonate with those of us with children living at home of any age.
I love how this book encourages us to treat our youngsters with respect!
I found the sections on conflict resolution, age appropriate tasks and learning at home particularly insightful.
For gentle parents everywhere this is a must! (even more so for those who are not yet gentle, but open to learning this fantastic approach - it is a book our kids would thank us for reading!
My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.
Hal ini juga diamini sama om Tim Seldin sang President of The Montessori Foundation dan Chair of The International Montessori Council.
All in all, providing a stimulating environment is what this method is all about.
I found this book interesting but I only read it in small chunks, and it took me months to get through it, because I found it rather dry. The style is very non-fiction / instructive. The anecdotes from different families did help to break up the instructive tone a bit. I would have preferred real-life photos of Montessori settings as I feel that they may have been more useful than the illustrations in this book, which are perhaps oversimplifications or presenting an "ideal" rather than authoritative real-world insight. The book covers a great breadth of subject matter but sometimes lacks specific guidance. For example, "Teach your child that, while their voice is heard, they need to respect others and to not be mean or hurtful." I couldn't see that any guidance was offered on how to teach this to your child. But I also found some really valuable ideas in this book, like addressing your child's need to feel loved. "If a child constantly seeks attention, even when you are busy, they need reassurance that you love them. Notice when they approach. Without talking, reach out with a loving gesture to signal to them to come closer. Do not halt your task. This simple action can help to avoid their behaviour escalating." I also valued the suggestion of "Being mindful of your message". "Keep in mind that your own approach to work sets an example for your child. If you talk about your work negatively and approach it as a chore, you signal to your child that work is not enjoyable and is something that simply has to be endured, in contrast to relaxing leisure time. Conversely, expressing the satisfaction you take from your work shows your child that work can be a fulfilling endeavour that forms an integral part of life." And, just when I had been stewing over how to retire my daughter's packed toybox, this book presented the perfect solution: displaying and organising toys in a way that does not overwhelm the child and where everything has its place. My four-year-old took to this immediately and we are all much happier with our Montessori-inspired set-up. Overall, although I didn't find the style compelling, I found this a great book to learn and understand the Montessori way.
Ak by som knihe mala niečo vytknúť, mám pocit, že nejde do hĺbky a v niektorých otázkach by to bolo fajn.
Its a hard no for me. The style this book is written in is like a cook book, which in area of raising kids can be harmful, as every child is an individual and should be treated as such. There are some useful tips in it, but even those should be modified in a way that is truly beneficial to the family using them. You get the feeling through out the book that if you use the MM method your kids will be picture perfect, they will be able to solve every conflict before age of 6, they will play (CALMLY!) with sticks and leaves, and everything will be just the way you see in the movies. As the reality with small (and even big kids) is very very different, kids are loud, they play like there is no tomorrow, they fight accordingly and all of that is ok as well, and no parent should feel like they are failing because their kid is not the picture of calmness, tidiness and respectfulness, even if they use MM method to the T.
Väga kaunis raamat, mõnusalt üldine, katab ära laia valiku teemasid, ent läheb ka just parajalt süvitsi.
As a Montessori preschool teacher, overall I thought it was a great book. I removed a star because it seems very geared to elementary to older age children. While I think it’s important to help gain perspective of what will happen in the coming years, I was hoping for something that would also include more for the first years of the life.
Montessori for Every Family was very informative. I enjoyed reading through the book and gaining strategies to implement into my own family. I found this book to be a great reminder on child development and helped me reevaluate my expectations for my household. I think I gained some valuable takeaways reading this book. It is one that I'll keep on my shelf to return to.
I would love to have this book on my shelf, it is a simple guide to how Montessori values can enter the household. I particularly liked the celebrating the seasons part. Only took a star off because I feel like there weren’t enough real life examples of what to do in situations.
Useful, elegantly organized, aesthetically illustrated, and mindful of parenting pro-tips and Montessori-structured advice for building a home and mindset for raising intellectually engaged and curious children in a beautiful world.
I like that it is easy to read, practical and filled with plenty of useful tips to deal with everyday scenarios. Totally recommend for people who want to learn and understand Montessori way of life better.
a great primer on implementing Montessori values into family life! an excellent intro to Montessori approaches throughout your child's ages and stages. also a good reference for those who are already doing so but need to get re-ground themselves in Montessori values (me!)
Lots of great principles; best audience is aliens who have landed on earth and are learning how to “human” in order to blend in (it was very micro-managing).
Love the idea of self-calming spaces instead of time outs.
A lovely book about positive and gentle parenting. Would have been nice to have more practical examples, especially ones that's aren't perfect first time. But some nice ideas.
