As information professionals, we live in the age of digital information. Recent studies have shown that there is a drastic change in user demands needed to support the teaching, learning, and research activities of the library profession. The desire for physical library collections is in decline. Even though there is high demand for internet access and allied resources, there are certain user categories like traditional resources and demand for the physical space in the library. In such conditions, libraries may reconsider their current spaces and future renovations to reflect these usage trends to meet the changing requirements of the user community. In this book, library professionals from different regions of the world have contributed papers on how Next Generation Libraries (NGL) can be useful for the library users. It helps in understanding the various issues and challenges faced by the library professionals and attempts to provide the probable solutions to adopt in their workplaces. Next Generation Libraries (NGL) will also showcase the challenges and solutions faced by the academic libraries which can be useful for the library policy makers to frame policies to provide value added services to its users.

About the author

जन्म : 12 जनवरी, 1960 को इटावा (उ.प्र.) में।
शिक्षा : विकलांग होने के बावजूद हाई स्कूल तथा इंटरमीडिएट की परीक्षाएँ प्रथम श्रेणी में उत्तीर्ण कीं। सन् 1983 में रुड़की विश्‍वविद्यालय से इंजीनियरिंग की उपाधि प्राप्‍त कर सेंट्रल इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स लिमिटेड (CEL) में सहायक अभियंता के रूप में नियुक्‍त हुए। विभिन्न विभागों में काम करते हुए आजकल मुख्य प्रबंधक के रूप में काम कर रहे हैं।
अब तक कुल 32 पुस्तकें तथा विभिन्न पत्र-पत्रिकाओं में लगभग 300 लेख प्रकाशित।
पुरस्कार-सम्मान : सन् 1996 में राष्‍ट्रपति पदक, 2001 में ‘हिंदी अकादमी सम्मान’ तथा योजना आयोग द्वारा ‘कौटिल्य पुरस्कार’। सन् 2003 में अपारंपरिक ऊर्जा स्रोत मंत्रालय द्वारा ‘प्राकृतिक ऊर्जा पुरस्कार’, 2004 में राष्‍ट्रीय मानवाधिकार आयोग द्वारा ‘सृजनात्मक लेखन पुरस्कार’, विज्ञान व प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्रालय द्वारा ‘डॉ. मेघनाद साहा पुरस्कार’ तथा महासागर विकास मंत्रालय द्वारा ‘हिंदी लेखन पुरस्कार’।
