There are several character deaths throughout the novel. There is also mourning and loss for deaths that happened in the previous book.

There are characters dealing with severe PTSD, who face several panic attacks throughout the book.

this is so tough for me to rate because i know i messed up by not doing a reread of ‘all the stars and teeth.’ i dont remember a lot of specifics and i had my fingers crossed there would be some subtle recap sentences thrown in here and there in the beginning, but there isnt…
i just couldnt remember why i loved the adventure, why i loved the characters, why i loved the magic system. it got better as the story progressed, but i found myself wanting more high-stakes plot, wanting more chemistry between characters, and wanting more displays of magic.
for what this is, its good. but looking back my review for ‘all the stars and teeth,’ i was head over heels for the story, so im sad i didnt have those same feelings for this final installment.
so just a PSA - if its been awhile since reading the first book, a reread will definitely help!

if there’s one thing i’ve learned today while reading the entirety of this book, it’s not to trust adalyn grace anymore. she can and will hurt your soul ‘till you can feel the pain in your bones. i am a puddle of emotions and tears.
i truly think all the tides of fate outdoes all the stars and teeth on so many levels. and i already loved the first book, so that says a lot. this is not what i expected from the sequel at all: it’s so much better. i don’t think i’m capable of explaining how good this was.
i’ll try in my own chaotic way though. but first i need tissues because i’m crying...again.
okay so, adalyn grace’s writing style on its own just gives me LIFE. it’s just so good and vividly and dark at moments and HELP. i’m obsessed. and i of course always appreciate the adventure in these books...though i’m really, really jealous. like, amora??? why am i not on your crew???

I absolutely loved the first book, but I feel so mixed about this one. I am a tad disappointed, but I went into this book not really knowing much about the plot, so maybe my expectations just did not align with what this book was promising? I found the beginning to drag quite a bit, and honestly, I was very bored at times. In this sequel, we follow a sort of bachelorette parade but...we really don't? Honestly, I am not sure what the purpose of this sequel was since so many of the characters that I LOVED in the first book took a backseat. While I loved the romance between the two main characters in the first book, I found their issues in this one to be a bit annoying and unbelievable.
I think my main frustration with this sequel resides in Amora. I loved her character in the first book, but I found myself at such odds in this sequel. There were moments where it felt as though her development was going backward. I did not understand most of the decisions she made or why she made them, and overall I was confused as to why she felt at such odds with Bastian.
The stakes felt so high in the first book, but this one just fell flat. I think ATSAT could exist as a stand-alone with the last hundred or so pages of this book added in. The main conflicts in this sequel just seem to be resolved so easily in the last hundred pages that the first 3/4th of the book just dragged and seemed unnecessary. I would've loved to see more of Bastian and the rest of the crew, but what scenes they did have was a bit of a letdown.
I also wanted more pirates!!! I think the pirate aspect was the main reason I was drawn to the first book, and this one lacks a substantial amount of that aspect so perhaps that is why I was a bit let down by it.
Moving onto what I liked, I must say that I adore Adalyn Grace's writing style. I still stand by my love for the first book and I will probably reread it in the future, but I can't see myself picking up this sequel again in the future. I am so excited about her newest novel but this one was a bit of a letdown. If you are more into the politics of this book, then I highly suggest picking up the sequel! If you are more into the adventure and pirate aspect of this book then I'd leave continuing up to you.

I really enjoyed this book and love all of the characters but I have it 4 stars. Amora slightly irritated me through most of the book with the way she treated Bastian over something that wasn’t his fault at all. He was suffering just as much as she was and it’s like she didn’t even care. Her continuously whining about her father and wanting to bring him back even though she would and was putting her friends in danger with her decisions.
Ferrick.... 😩 I can’t say anything without spoiling it for anyone who reads this review but let’s just say he stole my heart and stole the show 🤷🏻♀️♥️

All the Tides of Fate is the sequel to the dazzling sea adventure book All the Stars and Teeth.
It was lovely to return to this world of dangerous magic and curses and I was very ready to set sail with the good ol' crew.
Amora, Bastian, Ferrick, and Vataea along with the new additions to the crew, embark on a brand new journey on the Keel Haul.
My main problem was that I found this book to be anti-climactic.
I expected more sea adventure and magic but what I got was royal theatrics.
I still liked the characters and enjoyed their interactions. The depth of Amora's grief felt very real and raw due to what she goes through in the first book.
I appreciated the roles each of the characters played, they were the ones that truly carried the story.
There wasn't much to the plot honestly. I wanted to see some gripping action sequences and more magic because that's what I loved about the first book, it introduced such a unique magic system that was unfortunately left unexplored.
The romance was sweet when it wanted to be, but it was frustrating most of the time.
The writing was good and immersive and I flew through the pages.
I think I would've been fine if it was a stand-alone rather than a duology.

i had such a fun time reading this book, the pirate vibes were still there from the last book and i loved seeing all the characters back together! i do wish there had been a little bit more reminder of what happened throughout the last book and not just the end, but this was still such a fun story. the plot moved really fast and it always felt like something interesting was going to happen next, and i think this was helped along by the fact that we were exploring more of the islands. that's one thing that bugged me a little in the last book- i wanted to see more of the world. i wish it had been even longer to see even more, but i was really happy they were exploring even more of the world.
seeing all the characters back together was also very rewarding, though i was a little frustrated the conflict between Amora and Bastien, especially after what they went through together in the last book. it just felt like the miscommunication trope, even though i understood that Amora was going through trauma and needed some love from her friends. Ferrick is my favorite character in this series and his bond with Amora, especially during her hard moments, was very rewarding to see.

I'm not sure why, but I had super low expectations going into the first book, but it REALLY piqued my interest. I ended up EATING. THIS. SERIES. UUUUUPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP! This second book was even better than the first! Ahhh, it just about killed me! I truly hope there will be another book set in this world. IT WAS BRILLIANT !

I honestly have no idea how to start this review. All the Tides of Fate was such a phenomenal book, and I am still REELING from that ending! Adalyn Grace, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO ME?!? #WorstBookHangoverEver
In all seriousness, though, this book truly was spectacular, and there are no words in the English language that can properly express how much I loved it. It’s one of those books that falls under the “Had Me Bawling Into My Pillow At 3 AM” Category. There, THAT should give you an idea of how much I loved it. 😂
I was rather apprehensive when going into All the Tides of Fate, as its predecessor, All the Stars and Teeth (AKA, one of my favorite reads of 2020), left me with SKY HIGH expectations. I was worried that, like so many other sequels out there, All the Tides of Fate would be a victim of the dreaded Book 2 Curse. But guess what? It totally wasn’t!
All the Tides of Fate was just as good as All the Stars and Teeth. In fact, there are some aspects of the book that made me like it even MORE than All the Stars and Teeth. For example, the development of the various characters in the story.
Let’s start with our protagonist, Amora. The poor girl had to go through A LOT in this book. After witnessing the brutal death of her father in All the Stars and Teeth, Amora’s heart is heavy with grief, guilt, and regret. She finds herself getting easily panicked and overwhelmed, and for a majority of the novel, she is very emotionally closed off. I really appreciate that Adalyn Grace did NOT gloss over Amora’s trauma and grief like many other YA authors do when a character faces a major loss. Instead, she made Amora’s pain a big part of the story and portrayed the reality of grief with such rawness and honesty that I can’t help but applaud. In most of the YA novels I’ve read, when someone the protagonist loves is killed off, they spend a very brief amount of time mourning them, and then they continue on with their adventures as if nothing has changed. This is NOT realistic. That’s why I love that Adalyn Grace didn’t shy away from making Amora’s grief a primary focus of the book. Grief is NOT short-term, and it’s important to portray it realistically in literature. Because of her PTSD and grief, Amora went through a tremendous amount of growth in this novel, and I’m so proud of her. She’s a character I’ve loved getting to know these past two books, and her depth and complexity make her a very memorable one as well.
And of course, I can’t forget about the wonderful supporting characters in this story! Ferrick, Vataea, and Bastian occupy an extremely special place in my heart. They’re all very different, and that’s why I love them so much. In the past, I’ve seen authors dedicate all of their energy to developing their protagonists, resulting in very bland casts of supporting characters. Adalyn Grace is different. Her secondary characters are JUST as phenomenally developed as her protagonist, even though we’re not reading from their perspectives. Ferrick, Vataea, and Bastian each have so many layers to them, and it’s been a pleasure getting to peel them all back as I’ve gotten to know them better and better. But I must admit… I have a feeling that some of these characters’ adventures aren’t quite over yet (*cough cough* VATAEA), so I’m hoping, praying, and BEGGING for more stories set in Visidia in the future! (Adalyn Grace, if you’re seeing this… Can we PLEASE get a Vataea novel? PRETTY PLEASE?)
Moving on, I also really loved how the character relationships in this duology were developed. We got to see a lot more of Amora and Bastian in All the Tides of Fate, and I like how Adalyn Grace really took their relationship to a deeper and more emotional level. They’re definitely one of my new favorite fictional couples, as I’ve become so attached to both of them!
Now, before I wrap this review up, can I please take a moment to express how glad I am that this series was written as a duology and not stretched out into a trilogy? Even though it absolutely tore my heart apart, the ending of All the Tides of Fate was absolutely PERFECT, and the story as a whole came to a very neat conclusion. So many series these days are unnecessarily long, which is why I’m happy that the author and publisher recognized that only two books were needed to tell this fantastic story. #DuologiesForTheWin
Overall, All the Tides of Fate was a magnificent (and heartbreaking) ending to a series that I love so much. The characters in this story are some of my favorites of all time, and I already miss them endlessly!
If you like swashbuckling, high-seas adventures full of magic, beauty, and self discovery, you MUST read this series! It’s beyond amazing!

Now, before I wrap this review up, can I please take a moment to express how glad I am that this series was written as a duology and not stretched out into a trilogy? Even though it absolutely tore my heart apart, the ending of All the Tides of Fate was absolutely PERFECT, and the story as a whole came to a very neat conclusion. So many series these days are unnecessarily long, which is why I’m happy that the author and publisher recognized that only two books were needed to tell this fantastic story. #DuologiesForTheWin
Overall, All the Tides of Fate was a magnificent (and heartbreaking) ending to a series that I love so much. The characters in this story are some of my favorites of all time, and I already miss them endlessly!
If you like swashbuckling, high-seas adventures full of magic, beauty, and self discovery, you MUST read this series! It’s beyond amazing!

I have to say that this sequel felt like it "didn't have to be". If you just included the last part of the book to the end of Book One, ALL THE STARS AND TEETH, it would have been a satisfying stand-alone. Aside from the lack of action that was the highlight for me of the first book, the main character, Amora, starts out seeming to have "lost" all of the growth that she had in the beginning. I simply didn't understand her decisions at all in this book. Honestly, nothing of note seemed to happen until the very ending, imho.
I've seen many reviewers that loved this book, so please don't take my word for it, but read it for yourself. All opinions are unique to the reader.

Okay, first off - I really enjoye diving into All the Tides of Fate It was a pretty interesting sequel and I just love all things pirate at this point. Second, I'm not a fan of killing a certain someone just because. It's like Rue all over again. Or Finnick. OR ANY OTHER CHARACTER, main or side, THAT I FELL IN LOVE WITH AND WAS MURDERED IN FRONT OF MY EYES.
So, yeah, I was a tad bit upset with what happened just so you know.
Other than that, I was and forever will be on team Amora and Bastian. It's never going to change and I'm just putting it out there just in case someone wants to challenge me. I love them. They love each other. Even though this whole push pull thing was kind of annoying between them in this book. It was just kind of obvious that they should've been together from the start but noooo - no one said a damn thing. It was annoying.
In the end, I still loved this book because of the characters and the adventure they went on. Plus the whole magic vs. not having magic thing. Oh and Amora was just kind of amazing throughout it as well. Okay, more than amazing. Just know that I loved it.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, despite the crazy amount of violence and gore, and was looking forward to the second (final) book in this series. There was so much going on that by the time I had gotten two-thirds of the way through the book I checked to see if there was a third book planned because I couldn’t believe that it could all be resolved in the remaining chapters. I was correct to be concerned. This book strings you along and then solves all the problems too rapidly. Issues that drove the story are dismissed and “magically” solved. It was almost like the author was going for the “big” double plot twist ending so didn’t resolve a bunch of things.
First off, the amount of violence in these stories is a bit much. The blood lust displayed by the main character is disturbing and she never really seems conflicted about that.
Amora is supposed to be a strong woman, but honestly, I just ended up hating her. (And I really don’t hate any characters- well maybe Uriah Heep and George Wickham but they are villians, not “heroes”). Her questionable self-loathing, unresolved grief, unforgiving nature, mental instability, and narcissistic behavior made her very hard to root for. Like at all.
Everything was all about Amora, though she consistently claimed it was all about Visidia. She kept too many secrets (one of which was used as a plot twist) but it became awful that she had faithful “friends” she consistently lied to and asked them to lie for her as well.
When Amora and Bastian “finally” get together the entire thing felt very cringey instead of sweet. She manipulated him into sex not caring what he wanted or even how he felt. She is essentially using him, not even sure if she really loves him, while lying to him about things and also knowing how he feels about her. Just yuck.
During the Ferrick lecture in chapter 34 I rolled my eyes like crazy- the level of deceit, selfishness and manipulation would never be changed by a few words from a friend (who she essentially has been toying with for years). Their relationship is not good- he enables her over and over. He is seriously the best person in the entire story and she takes it completely for granted. She never considers anyones feelings but her own.
The entire story was too quickly resolved and very unbelievable. I actually stopped reading the book to take notes for a bad review... what in the world?! I was so infuriated by the ending of this book that I had to walk away from it for a few minutes.
Ok- the ending should have been her and the “god” resolving her grief instead of making it worse. Her friends should have called her on things, and considering the crew she has I cannot imagine that they would hold their tongues like they did. When Vataea yells at her I was totally excited that at last she will see, at last she will realize how awful she has been, at last they will have an intervention, but nope. That seems very out of character for all of them.
Ferrick’s sacrifice at the end was completely uncalled for, and in fact ruined the entire thing for me. Amora should have given her throne to him, he should have married Vataea, they should have set up a parliament like the book discussed with Amora as an elected leader, but Ferrick as the Prime Minister. He was a healer- he would have healed their little world.
In the end Amora had no culpability for the way she acted- she was forgiven for all her lies and behavior- without substantially changing her character. It made the epilogue horrifyingly unlikely and even felt like it mocked Ferrick’s sacrifice. Stupid memory erasing?!!!
My one take away from this book I had never considered before was that all monarchs have to take over leadership only when they have lost a parent and are mourning. I never really considered the emotional toll on them. That really stinks.

Fangen wir mit dem an, was mir gefallen hat: Die Kombination der verschiedenen Charaktere! Ich habe es geliebt, der alten Truppe erneut zu begegnen und es hat nicht lange gedauert, bis ich das Gefühl für ihre Dynamik zurückgewonnen hatte. Schon in Band 1 ist mir positiv aufgefallen, wie die Beziehungen zwischen den Charakteren gestrickt wurden, und meiner Meinung nach hat sich das in Band 2 fortgesetzt. Darüber hinaus fand ich es wunderbar, mehr über die verschiedenen Inseln und ihre Bewohner*innen zu erfahren. Auch die gesellschaftlichen sowie politischen Konflikte und Amoras innerliche Zerissenheit empfand ich als gut eingearbeitet. Der Plot hatte für mich aber dennoch kleinere Schwächen, war gleichzeitig vorhersehbar wie etwas instabil, weshalb ich manchmal Probleme hatte, ihm zu folgen.
Auch der Schreibstil hat es mir nicht immer leicht gemacht. Während er an manchen Stellen wunderbar bildhafte Beschreibungen hervorgebracht hat, waren andere Sätze außerordentlich holprig formuliert, brachten auffällige Wortwiederholungen oder Fehler mit sich. Diese Aspekte würde ich weniger dem Buch an sich zuschreiben, als der Übersetzung oder dem Lektorat und Korrektorat - was ich sehr schade finde. Ich glaube, da wurde Potential verschenkt. Allerdings habe ich das Buch nur auf Deutsch und nicht in der Originalsprache gelesen, sodass es sich in Bezug teilweise um Vermutungen handelt. Normalerweise würde ich das auch nicht erwähnen - kleinere Fehlermengen sind meiner Meinungen nach normal, aber hier hat es mich tatsächlich mehrmals den Lesefluss gekostet.

I am sad with this ending, and with this book. I felt bad with the characters, the plot was a mess and I didn't enjoy nearly as much as the first one. And I am really sad about it, It had a lot of potential to explore consequences but all the characters seemed dumb all of a sudden. But still, I have a lot of fun and comfort reading this I just don't think It lived up to the first one... Also the audiobook wasn't as good?
Okay and still I will read more books by Adalyn because I enjoy her writing style.

I read and really enjoyed All the Stars and Teeth last year. It felt like a brand new idea, an original magic system and the pace was fast on account of the adventure element as well as the mystery of both Bastian and her fathers secrets about the kingdom. I remember speeding through it and raving about it as one of my favourite books of 2021.
Sadly after reading All the Tides of Fate I feel like it should perhaps have been a standalone, it was good enough that it could have done. Because book two for me was just disappointing.
In book one the main character Amora is difficult to like at first don't get me wrong she's petty, immature, naïve, has a bad temper but she grows on you as her character develops and you see how much more compassionate she is than her father and she begins to trust people more building a crew of people who are interesting, funny and good friends. So it was incredibly disappointing to find that in book two she had reverted to her original characteristics and all that growth had disappeared. We were back to the Amora who doesn't take responsibility, who whines and wants someone else to do it for her, and who suddenly keeps secrets and doesn't trust her crew despite her own inner monologue telling her to on a number of occasions.
The plot itself was very disjointed we open up where book one left off and find Amora Queen now and sent off on a journey to find a husband but really on a secret mission she hasn't told anyone about. Which of course also means we barely get any exposure of the other characters who made the story so great in the first book.
I'd definitely look at books by this author again because I loved the first one so much but I think it could have stood up on its own.

In the epic ending of the 1st book, Amora lost soul magic and half her soul trapped inside the Bastian, her “almost lover”, in an attempt to rescue one of trapped kingdoms under her father’s rule.
She was determined to break the curse and have her magic back. So she and her friends sail all over the kingdom to find a legendary artifact that to break the curse, with hopes of repairing the damage her family’s done of the kingdom and the people.
It was an epic finale of the series. The characters were fun to follow and the world building beautiful. 4 stars.

I really enjoyed this book especially with its ending. The ending was well done and did a great job of concluding the events that happened and getting to see what each character is doing now. The character death that happens was very emotional getting to see their letter that talks about the impact that their friends had on them was really emotional. The characters were great, but in this Amora was kind of annoying mainly with her pushing away from Bastian, but I understand why she did it. It would have been even more annoying if she wasn’t a character that is easy to connect with. But besides that the romance was good and had good development from all that. And the adventure was great, especially since we got to learn more about different types of magic on this journey. Overall, this was an enjoyable sequel and I can’t wait to see what the author will write next.

I thought this was a nice little fantasy adventure duet with a unique story. With a sweet romance thrown in for good measure.
Bless Amora’s heart for trying to correct the wrongs of her father and her various other predecessors. Will she be successful? Find and keep love along the way? Keep the friends she makes on her adventures touring the seven islands as Queen to help her reach her goal of fixing and uniting the islands? Find the husband she needs for the thrown to rule beside her and make an heir? Getting cursed along the way and looking for a way to break that curse.
When all she really wants to do is sail the seas and continue to adventure.
It is my opinion that this book ended almost the way it should. There could have been a slightly better ending.

I received this ARC from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review. I was able to read it immediately after finishing the first novel in this duology, All the Stars and Teeth, which I enjoyed and gave 3 stars to.
Unfortunately, All the Tides of Fate was not as good as its predecessor. There is still some nice world building here. There is creativity with the magics, the island descriptions, and the Barracudas and Shanty are a nice touch. However, that's about where the good stuff ends.
Amora is now queen of a kingdom of several islands, all which practice different magics. She sets off on another adventure with the crew from the first book, ostensibly to visit her people and search for a husband (huh? just one of many weird and uneven plot points) but really to find a way to break the curse placed upon her at the end of the last book. This then morphs into a completely different plan to bring her dad back from the dead because wahhhhhhhh she doesn't want to make decisions anymore and wants Daddy to do it for her - even though she spent all of the first book learning what a terrible ruler and liar he was and yearned for freedom and independence. Somehow, suddenly, despite all of that, he's going to fix everything and she wants to just sit back and do nothing. It made NO SENSE. She tells nobody about her real plan (either of them), and refuses to even talk to her crew for most of the book.
Amora was a difficult character to like in the first book, but in this one she becomes completely unbearable. Honestly there is no clear reason why any of the crew stands by her except for the fact that she is their queen and says they must. The relationships are given scant attention, and often relationships are uneven - one minute she hates this person, the next she doesn't with no clear explanation for why things changed. It takes her FOREVER to make the right choice in the end, even though she has internal and external dialogue multiple times along the way that shows she knows all along that her dad was a terrible king and that bringing him back not only won't solve anything, but she is warned several times, including by a deity, that if she does this it will lead to the destruction of her kingdom.
Her character and total lack of development - in fact she goes backwards in maturity from what happened in the first book - make this pretty difficult to enjoy. The minor characters are all so much more interesting, but unfortunately are given almost no attention. Ferrick suddenly is a totally different person than he was in the first book - he goes from being her stowaway fiancée that she is always annoyed by to her "very best friend" that she trusts beyond all others and is the only voice of reason. When? When did this happen? And, her refusal to engage at all with Bastian is beyond frustrating. This, at least, made some sense, but mostly felt like a plot device to keep the two lovers apart and create tension. But, there just wasn't any. I kept rooting for Bastian to find somebody better than this awful girl, as he certainly deserved better than what she gave him.
I hate writing reviews like this. I hate that this book wasn't as good as the first one. I think this author has a lot of pro0mise as a writer, and I'd be interested in future works that she writes, but this sequel is just not good.
Unfortunately, All the Tides of Fate was not as good as its predecessor. There is still some nice world building here. There is creativity with the magics, the island descriptions, and the Barracudas and Shanty are a nice touch. However, that's about where the good stuff ends.
Amora is now queen of a kingdom of several islands, all which practice different magics. She sets off on another adventure with the crew from the first book, ostensibly to visit her people and search for a husband (huh? just one of many weird and uneven plot points) but really to find a way to break the curse placed upon her at the end of the last book. This then morphs into a completely different plan to bring her dad back from the dead because wahhhhhhhh she doesn't want to make decisions anymore and wants Daddy to do it for her - even though she spent all of the first book learning what a terrible ruler and liar he was and yearned for freedom and independence. Somehow, suddenly, despite all of that, he's going to fix everything and she wants to just sit back and do nothing. It made NO SENSE. She tells nobody about her real plan (either of them), and refuses to even talk to her crew for most of the book.
Amora was a difficult character to like in the first book, but in this one she becomes completely unbearable. Honestly there is no clear reason why any of the crew stands by her except for the fact that she is their queen and says they must. The relationships are given scant attention, and often relationships are uneven - one minute she hates this person, the next she doesn't with no clear explanation for why things changed. It takes her FOREVER to make the right choice in the end, even though she has internal and external dialogue multiple times along the way that shows she knows all along that her dad was a terrible king and that bringing him back not only won't solve anything, but she is warned several times, including by a deity, that if she does this it will lead to the destruction of her kingdom.
Her character and total lack of development - in fact she goes backwards in maturity from what happened in the first book - make this pretty difficult to enjoy. The minor characters are all so much more interesting, but unfortunately are given almost no attention. Ferrick suddenly is a totally different person than he was in the first book - he goes from being her stowaway fiancée that she is always annoyed by to her "very best friend" that she trusts beyond all others and is the only voice of reason. When? When did this happen? And, her refusal to engage at all with Bastian is beyond frustrating. This, at least, made some sense, but mostly felt like a plot device to keep the two lovers apart and create tension. But, there just wasn't any. I kept rooting for Bastian to find somebody better than this awful girl, as he certainly deserved better than what she gave him.

June 19, 2020please stop rating books you haven't read yet. It makes the rating on goodreads unreliable. I can understand if the writer rates it 5 stars but readers? even before it came out? please STOP!!!!!

I have to start out by saying I really enjoy this world. The different kinds of magic and what they can do are interesting and the pirates and sea creatures are very cool. I like that Amora toured some of the islands and we saw how the people there live and the unique ways they wield magic. The world was my favorite part of this duology and well done.
I also fully ship Amora and Bastien and think they make a good couple. I was sad that Amora was pushing Bastien away because of the soul bond. It wasn't his fault and he was so eager to help her and be there for her. His love for Amora was beyond sweet and Bastien is a great guy.
What I struggled with was the slow paced for the first half. I was irritated with how Amora was treating Bastien and her friends and not much was happening. Luckily it picks up and had some fun fights and curses after the half and the pacing really increased. I also wasn't happy with one of the big things that happened at the end. I felt like it didn't need to happen and it put a damper on the ending for me. If the part at the ending hadn't happened, I would have given this four stars.

I am honestly speechness. Words cannot describe how much I loved this book. Just read it. Pick up the first one and then this one and feel all the excitement.

Coming off the heels of the last battle, and Amora gaining the throne, we slip into the after-shot of life with Amora as queen. But it's not pretty. Amora struggles to gain the respect and love of her people, and questions herself and her ability to rule. Let's add the fact that she's still bound to Bastian (I won't give away why in case you all haven't read book one). So, when it's recommended to her that she should begin to find a suitor and give the kingdom a sense of safety, she embarks on a tour of the islands. But isn't a husband she has on her mind. It's a way to break the thingie from the first book's thingie that happened at the end. Amora encounters opposition, and she soon finds out that her position isn't as secure as she once thought.
Amora is still the fierce protagonist we had in book one. But her nervousness and flaws are evident throughout the story. She makes some dire mistakes that almost cost her life. The pressure is on, and it's clear that her head isn't in the game at all times. That is what I love about her character. She's queen, sure, but she'd also a teenager plagued with loss and heartache.
I loved the romance and the tension. It felt like book one all over again, which is great. We're presented with new obstacles and an almost brand new story-line. The friendships are sweet but made of glass, and Amora has to learn to trust herself and others if she wants to meet her goal.
This is a superb sequel to this YA series. It's filled with magic, secrets, action, and romance that makes my squishy heart thump. I absolutely loved it.
