The courses to true love never runs smoothly… and certainly not for Betty. She loves Tom. Tom blatantly doesn’t feel the same and he’s good at showing it, in a pretty mean way.
Betty wants to get down and dirty with the chef but he’s holding back. This lady is resilient and even though he treats her bad, she won’t give up.
And she thinks her hot flushes are down to unrequited lust but the reality is she’s going through the early stages of menopause… aged thirty two. Blindly, she follows her heart and frisky feelings towards her sister’s girlfriend’s brother.
Tied by family connections, Betty thinks this means they are meant to be together. Even her Grandpa Mo and doting six year old niece, Tilly, can see she’s going to get burnt.
How can she make the man she’s been in love with for eight years fall in love with her?
Is it possible to convince him, as well as her embarrassed family, her feelings are real?
And who will help her open her own restaurant, specialising in spicy food, so she can prove she’s more than just a kitchen hand?
A funny sexy story about family, food and plenty of hot flushes.
Contemporary with a touch of humour, you'll enjoy meeting the leading players, depending on who they are.
All novels are in British English and translate perfectly for all, so don't get too stressed if you don't understand some slang. Right now is the perfect time for a bit of an escape, don't you think? So, just go with the flow and enjoy!
I Love this author she tells good stories and this one is no exception. I loved the heroine (Betty) and felt sorry for her when the hero treated her badly and I was rooting for them the whole time.Betty's grandfather is hilarious so is her niece Tilly. It was a really good read.
man, I'm actually questioning whether I want to finish this book or not. so far it's just making me sad. so many times to her own family she should've said f@#$ off but hasn't stood up for herself enough. Tom can't spit out the word sorry and her sister is a total bitch. I'm a little over halfway so I guess ill press on but it better get a bit happier or something.
Surprisingly Sweet and Sexy!! I loved to hate Hot Flush.
Hot Flush was a book that you love to hate. There is the heroine Betty who is head over heels in love with the hero Tom who's main goal is to keep Betty at arms length. Throw in an eccentric grandfather, a mini flasher named Tilly, and Guy the horse, and you have one fantastic book.
The heroine's family are awful to her—particularly her sister. The only nice people in this story are the heroine, her grandfather and her niece who is her mini-me much to the chagrin of her sister who is a bitch of the first order. She's hateful throughout this story and believed the worst of the heroine, every time. It got really tiresome the mixed signals sent by the zero of a hero in this story, he sucked! I didn't like him or his treatment of the heroine. It's HFN but desperately needed a epilogue, no reason for this story not to be wrapped up in a neat bow.
3.8 stars....I have read 'What He Did To Her' sometime ago and said it was like marmite, you might either love it or hate it and here we go again. (I loved that one by the way, 5 star for me). I have to give Hot Flush a 4 star, although if I could it would be slightly under. I do enjoy this authors books. However it was an annoying book to read because, although I love the authors humorous writing style, I dont like a lot of the characters in this book. The way Betty was treated by her parents and sister and even one of her small nieces made me so angry. I cant see how she has any self confidence at all, after being constantly put down all her life. I would have disowned them all. The man she has loved for over 8 years also treats her badly all the time and tells her quite clearly that he will never love her. He cant stand to be in her company and never loses a moment to demonstrate this. Betty appears quite a deranged character sometimes as she constantly holds out hope that his active disdain will turn to love. She is, at the same time, self aware about how crazily she is acting. Betty madly stalks Tom, and also works for him in his restaurant for 4 years, and I am surprised he didn't take out an injunction against her. However the amount of times she was hurt beyond believe by the things he said to her, then licked her wounds and went back to lusting after him , was frankly annoying, I wanted to scream at her. There were no apologies or grovelling from him either. I am glad she had another relationship during the book as it stopped her seeming a total pushover , there was some funny food related sex talk during this and some hot sex scenes.... This took place before she got with Tom so not a problem for me and as I said I am glad she did not just wait around w for Tom, pining away. I started the book thinking Betty must be an awful chef, but it seems she is actually a great chef who is derided by everyone for her ambitions to run her own business. I so wished that she would grow a pair and tell her mum, dad and sister to keep out of her life if they could not be supportive, as the put downs they gave her were not in any way good natured to my mind. I felt that Tom never really gave satisfactory reasons for treating Betty so badly. He went from acting as if he hated her to lusting after her pretty fast. When he did become interested in her it was great, but Betty deserved a gigantic grovel from him. Despite all this the writing was amusing, I was quite absorbed by the story after she left Tom's restaurant and branched out on her own. Despite not liking her family much, the way the author wrote about Bettys interactions with family and friends was great. She created some good characters especially with her grandpa and one of her nieces and also the white Rasta man (mind boggling).
I have mixed feelings about this book. To start with it was very broken and confusing. Almost as if a teenager was told to write a story and they wrote just as the thoughts came to them. No consistency, nothing to bind the conversations together, just chatter. The relationship between the two main characters is stupid to begin with. He hates her but lets her work there for 8 years. She loves him, stalks him, embarrasses him and just doesn't quite get the message. The wheel is spinning but there is no hamster. After putting the book down, I kept finding myself going back just to see what was happening now. There were so many other characters that had true personality flaws that you wondered why this gal even wanted to live. I waded through, got to the end, and it was just s hot mess. Out of 5 stars I'd have to give it a 1. With some excellent re-writing, better conversations, and a little less prima donna from a few certain characters, it would be a good book. Sorry, that's the best I can do. Considering I kept telling myself to just delete it, it ended up grabbing me somehow.
