Decided on reflection to take off a star. I basically skim read it after the use of the word n*gga. I'd like to say it was only used once, but it jumped off the page at me several times, all used in casual conversations, once during a sex scene. Nope, not for me.
To be honest, even before that, I didn't get the connection between the MC's. Boss and intern is sticky anyways, but they'd already had a meeting where mc1 was having his internship extended with no real job in sight. He admitted to being under paid - works a second job to eat. So the balance of power is heavily in the favour of mc2.

I wrote this review based on the entire series!!
These are all short quick reads with a little bit of steaminess thrown in. The last book The Intern is the most steamy out of all of them and it was probably my favorite out of the 3 as well. I say it's my favorite but I enjoyed all of them. They all pretty much had the same premise just different story lines. I only have two complaints really and that is I prefer a HEA (happily ever after) not a HFN (happy for now) although I knew what I was getting into going into these and the endings were really good but still it's personal preference. Also I would have liked more from all of the stories. As it is I feel like I just got little parts of what could have been a great full length book. I definitely enjoyed this authors writing and would love to read his full length novels.

No sé si es la forma de escribir de Harbon pero sus libros por más que sean lindos y los disfrute, nunca me hacen quedar como "wooow, 4 estrellas"
Fue una historia bastante corta sobre un chico que se acuesta con su jefe y el inicio de esa relación futura.
Lo recomiendo si quieren algo steamy y rápido de leer

Jay is working a pair internship in hopes of getting the job at the end of the experience. Rafael is one of the project leaders for the company were he works and Jay in his frustration with having to wait to find out about the job sees him as the band of his existence. They don't really know one another but Rafael rectified that and they start a fling. This story was interesting because the personal and the professional imp!fixation of dating at work, especially someone who supervises was explored and balanced well.

Jay continually commiserates with his work BFF, Desiree. Jay is black.
Rafael is super hot, and very confident. Rafael is Hispanic. Jay can’t stand Rafael; he finds the older man too arrogant.
They’re working on an app called LOVRS, intended to rival Tinder and Hinge…though this has almost nothing to do with the spurious plot.
Overly racialized in every aspect of the story.
Jay’s constant whingeing is intolerable.
The lust is nonexistent. Although the action starts out in an extremely abrupt manner, it surprisingly becomes the strength of this book.
Extremely odd and abrupt pseudo-HFN conclusion.

Loved the book it was great, the story was well written and the characters were intriguing. This story was so captivating that I was so engrossed from the start you did not want to put the book down. Jack Harbon has outdone herself again. Reading this book gave you so much pleasure and emotions that you do not know if you are coming or going.

I usually prefer my stories to be longer but Jack Harbon makes these characters come alive so quickly that I didn't feel like anything was missing. Layered characters, fun writing, and a lovely hfn ending.

The Intern is the best novella out of the Encounters series, hands down. Although it is only 50-something pages, the connection between Jay and Rafael felt so fleshed out and natural. I loved Desiree, she was great.

This is just a short novella with a hfn, but I really love the sense of fun that Harbon brings to his writing. He really seems to be having a good time, and even with a shorter story like this, there are playful details and side characters that make me laugh.

Working my way through Harbon's backlist and this is my favorite in the Encounters series so far. I loved the dynamtic and chemistry between Jay and Raf.

Quick and steamy - I liked this super short story of Jay and Rafael a lot. I definitely could have read several more chapters of the two of them because I was enjoying them so much.

The Intern is the third instalment in the Encounters series, and no, I’m not okay with that. This 10,000-ish word short story is hot as blazes, and I didn’t want it to end. At all.
Jaymore—just “Jay”—is tired of wondering if he’s going to get hired on as a full time staff member, or if he’s going to stay an intern forever. As it goes longer and longer without an answer, he gets more and more annoyed with his perfect, stuck-up project leader Rafael. But when Rafael shows up at Jay’s second job and asks for his time, it’s clear that neither of them are expecting to end up spending the night together.
But they do. Boy, do they spend the night together!
While The Brother still sits as my favourite, I almost… enjoyed this one more? I know how that sounds, but hear me out: Noel and Garrett from The Brother have stayed with me and I KEEP thinking about them, but I enjoyed the unfolding of Jay and Rafael’s relationship SO MUCH. The way that Rafael is so different outside of work, and the way he lets Jay see that—see HIM—without a single ounce of hesitation is… good.
It’s really good.
I found that this one almost felt more romantic than the first two. It may be because it’s a few pages longer and there are some extra smexy scenes thrown in, but there is something about the way that Jay and Rafael come together and then have to interact with each other at work that I REALLY like?
They just seem to fit together really well. Not only sexually—which BOY do they freaking fit together well sexually—but socially as well! They’re a sort of opposites attract deal, with Jay being outspoken to match Rafael’s more reserved personality.
I also enjoyed the element of “we shouldn’t be doing this” that came from the working relationship these two have. It added a nice touch that wasn’t too focused on, but made everything better in a way that I wasn’t totally expecting. This isn’t always my thing, but it worked really, really well here!
This is, again, some of the best sex I’ve ever read. EVERY act in this book is good, and there wasn’t a single moment where I wasn’t, ah, very interested in what was going on. On top of that, Harbon’s writing just knocks it out of the park. Quick, engaging and evocative, I am not kidding when I tell you that I have a new favourite author. I have a… most of Harbon’s works added to my wishlist, because I seriously need to go through his back list.
I plan on buying the paperback collection of Encounters, because these are three short stories I am definitely going to read again (especially The Brother, which I SERIOUSLY can’t stop thinking about)! I really recommend this entire series to anyone who just wants something nice and hot (so, so hot), because you will NOT be disappointed with Harbon’s excellent writing.
