What if you were given the chance to rekindle the flame with your first love? What happened to all those girls who were mean to you in school? Should Hannah Jensen take the chance of attending her high school reunion to find out? Hannah hasn’t been back to her hometown in more than twenty years. Now, a widow, raising a teenaged daughter, she has the opportunity to go home for her twenty-fifth high school reunion. The invitation to the reunion stirs up a lot of old memories at the same time she is dealing with loneliness, the challenges of single-parenting a teenager, people who want to “set her up” with eligible men, her own insecurities, and her eccentric family. The story interweaves the present with scenes from Hannah’s past and her fantasy of “happily ever after” with her high school boyfriend in a humorous and entertaining manner. Her feelings from being “shunned” by the cool kids resurface as she reflects back on her time as a teenager. There are several roadblocks on Hannah’s journey from a teenager through her present. The growing pains and amusing situations in which she finds herself are ones to which we all can relate. As she walks the path of self-discovery, she also discovers the most important life lesson of all–her relationship to God.
What a delightful, hilarious book! Fannon tells the story of a woman going back to her high school reunion with the drama of her teen years. I laughed out loud at the descriptions and situations. Thoroughly entertaining!
Thankfully, there is LIFE after the trauma and drama of high school!
This was a delightful and heartwarming story of a young widow who, while raising her teen daughter, is torn deciding whether or not to attend her 25th high school reunion and possibly Thankfully, there is LIFE after the trauma and drama of high school!reconnecting with an old flame. What woman, who has lost a mate, whether through death or divorce, has not fantasized about reconnecting with a former love? The colorful reminiscences about junior/senior high school experiences brought back many memories for me as well: the pain of being excluded and embarrassed by the “in girls” was especially well done — the heroine’s hoping the same girls receive their “just dues” from life was a very human reaction. The heartache of losing a much-loved spouse was masterfully woven into the storyline alongside the trials of enduring well-meaning matchmakers. I am a sucker for happy endings and I was not disappointed. Save the Date was an enjoyable read, both poignant and funny at the same time.
Laugh-out-loud funny! What a joy to slip into Fannon's rich world of witty writing. Isn't that a delightful gift from this author who I've had the pleasure to read and critique? We all can use a good laugh, smirk, and possible snort (no self-revelation here). A savvy writer, Fannon captures the switchback of emotions in the life of a widow raising an adolescent. Each grips self-discovery in this moving, twisty ride of past and future hopes and well-meaning friends. For romantics, optimists, single parents, widows, those who feel they don't fit, those who love to reminisce about high school and the "in" crowd., those who long for more, those who don't want to give up, those who seek love. An easy, delightful read. I dare you not to smile.
Save the Date is a humorous novel, so if you like to laugh you will love it. It hits home with many of us today—widowed, single parenting, and pondering past loves. This enjoyable read takes your mind off your current troubles. It was very enjoyable.

At times heart wrenching, this first hand look at the lasting impact of mean girls, the hypocrisy of cultural Christianity, and grieving the loves that could have been provides insight into how our behavior affects those around us.
