Review:

The writing style flows smoothly and it defines the characters very clearly by their actions and words. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions brought the book to life in my mind’s eye. I could picture the stables and horses as I was reading about them, which is great. The mystery was well plotted and kept me engaged throughout the entire book. There were plenty of suspects to consider and clues to sift through.

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Kallie and her two friends, Sam and Gracie, are very close and they really care about each other. When Kallie and Gracie go to check out Sam’s latest boyfriend at Shady Maple Stables, Kallie gets visions from one of the horses that are at the stable. I forgot to mention that Kallie is a veterinarian that gets visions from animals. The vision involves a missing woman and no one knows what happened to her, except maybe her horse. With the help of Sam and Gracie, Kallie will try to solve the mystery of the missing woman and also a murder.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. And if you like a twist to that cozy, then this is a must read book. I really like the premise of the book, a vet that gets visions from animals that she encounters. I really enjoyed this book and I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

Talk to the Hoof is the second book in the Kallie Collins Cozy Mystery series.

I loved this book and cannot wait for the next one in the series. The characters of Kallie and her best friends are well developed, strong, and intelligent. The storyline is well written and captured my interest from start to finish with psychic visions from horses, murder, mystery, danger, and suspense. This is a great read for lovers of cozy mysteries.

I got this book from Voracious Readers Only in return for an honest review. I loved it. Couldn’t put it down, ignored housework and grumbling husband until I finished it. Then I bought the first book on the series. Can’t wait for more books in this series and I’ll definitely buy them.

Gracie Parker (a high school math and science teacher) gave Kallie Collins (emergency veterinary medicine) a call to ask if she would join her and Sam Griffin (an ER nurse) on a horseback ride. A new guy at the stable had invited Sam to go riding, so she wanted her best friends to come too. They parked the car and went inside to meet Mike, Sam’s new guy friend. But Kallie feels compelled to walk over to a bay mare that poked her head out of the stall door.

Kallie has the ability to communicate with animals, as in seeing images of their thoughts. The mare projected darkness and a woman’s scream, her running away, an aura of fear around her. Heavy footsteps chase after her and a man filled with rage screams that he warned her about making him angry. A second horse adds his images of figures in black cloaks walking through shadow-filled passages. These visions lead Kallie to the discovery of a shallow grave near the stable. The killer is dangerous, not opposed to killing others who may jeopardize his getting away with the crime. Can Kallie expose this killer before it’s too late? Or will the killer get to her first?

This book really captured my attention. I owned three Appaloosas years ago, and this opened up my imagination! (No, none of them ever sent images into my mind but wouldn’t that be amazing?) The story line was clever. I had initially felt that the animals showing her what happened would make investigation a moot point, but I was definitely mistaken and thoroughly enjoyed the hunt for the bad guy!

Dr. Kallie Collins is not the average veterinarian. Sure, she loves animals. That’s the biggest reason she does what she does. And animals love her. Just not always for the expected reasons. Kallie is a living, breathing Dr. Doolittle in her ability to talk to the animals when they are in need of expressing themselves to human counterparts. In Talk to the Hoof Kallie Collins finds herself involved in a murder mystery that could possibly rob her of her own life. With help from her faithful companion, corgi mix Ariel and human female friends Grace and Samantha, Kallie embarks on solving the disappearance of a fellow horse lover as well as the murder of a man who knew too much, As Kallie uses her superhuman sleuthing skills to gain the trust of two key witnesses, that happen to be thoroughbred horses, she is forced up against a brick wall more than once.
Talk to the Hoof: A Kallie Collins Cozy Mystery Novel, Book Two by Lisa Shay is a unique take on the cozy mystery genre. With enough humor to surprise the reader and the hope of love for the hopeful romantic, this is a comfortable comfort food for any reader. Author Lisa Shay effortlessly weaves a fun story that addresses theme across the genre. By incorporating strong friendships with solid story characters, Shay creates a get-away for any occasion. Believable narration and convincing dialogue keep the plot moving and the action suspenseful. I’m anxious to read the next installment in this cozy mystery series.

Great Cozy Mystery with Lots of Animals
This is a really fun story to read. It features a veterinarian who can communicate with animals and her two best friends. The vet has a cat, but her dog plays a pivotal role in this book. The plot revolves around some odd things happening at a stable. The author presents the women as sensible and professional as you would expect from a veterinarian, ER nurse, and mathematician/scientist. Their sleuthing seems very reasonable. It is handy that they can get clues from the animals, but it is not like they just tell them clearly, it is just more clues. There are assorted supporting players that are more the stock characters one expects: domineering but she means well mother, supportive dad, almost-boyfriend detective, the guy she has known all her life who wants to be a boyfriend (and mom agrees). Very cute and well done! I have not yet read the prior books in this series but plan on doing so. This book stands alone well enough that a new reader does not need to read them in order. I received this ARC book for free from Booksprout and this is my honest review.

Kallie is a talented emergency veterinarian. She just happens to be an animal communicator. From her description, the class she took probably enhanced a bit of a natural gift. Mostly images are what she sees, sometimes live action

A prior case she was involved in drew media attention and she was asked to take a few weeks paid leave.

Jeffrey is a handsome IT guy her mom seems to think Kallie should have a thing for. He has never called or dropped by except when her mom, a good friend of his own mom, contacts him

Hunky Ben is the detective Kallie seems to share a bit of a mutual crush with. A man who cooks her dinner and brings her cupcakes, one even her cat likes, he might just be worth spending more time with

A riding outing turns into Kallie getting info on a missing woman, a horse in peril, and a murdered man.

Action and drama packed adventure with strong friendships and animal connections

I received a copy of this book for free via Voracious Readers Only, but promptly went and bought the first in the series (Dogs Don’t Lie) and pre-ordered books 3 and 4 too (out now!). On this basis, I definitely suggest reading the series in order, as the first book ses the scene and characters and this one continues the tale.

These are quite short mystery novels but fit quite a bit of action and entertainment in between the pages. Main character, Kallie, is an animal psychic, but her gift is described and treated as a perfectly natural talent for animal communication that anyone could learn or be taught – I love this idea and spent a fair amount of time daydreaming about being able to picture-talk with my dog and cats (I’m not going to admit to actually trying it!).

The plots are murder mysteries with animal witnesses, and while completely far-fetched they are quick and easy to read and very entertaining. It was the characters though – Kallie, Sam and Gracie, Ben, Jeffery, Ariel and Ella – that really hooked me in and it was for the characters that I bought the series so far.

I can’t wait to find out what happens next in Undercover Kittens!

Kallie was a veterinarian that could communicate with animals. Was shown a vision by one of the horses on a ranch she went, for a horseback ride. Then another horse gave more information too that she told the detective. But finally everything came out and the murderer was caught. A different kind of book for me but very action packed and everything got solved.

In this mystery, the horses are protecting people they love and Kallie might as well be talking to the hoof when she tries to communicate. But the murderer won't be able to stop, and you won't be able to put the book down!

*Note: I received a free copy from the author through Voracious Readers in exchange for an honest review*

I LOVED this book!!! It has everything you could want, murder, mystery, suspense, a hint of romance, interesting characters and best of all, a main character who can communicate with animals. Having not read the first book in the series I was a bit worried I wouldn't know important information about the characters, bit I didn't feel like that was the case at all. It was so easy to get into the story and I didn't want to put it down. I will definitely be keeping an eye out or other books in the series and going back to read the first one as well.

A thoroughly enjoyable cozy mystery with a twist, having the main character able to communicate with animals keeps a fairy standard story fresh and interesting. A wonderful book #2 in this series

I really loved book one and this is *almost* as good. Two errors that should never have made it to print were reported and I've identified them in Notes. Just wrong words.

Another error is the assumption the author made concerning the military was another. Also reported and heavily remarked in Notes.

And finally, after what happened in book one would these three friends REALLY go into a dangerous or possibly dangerous situation again? I doubt it but then this is fiction! I just think there should have been more Remember What Happened The Last Time before they got in the car.

I'm sure a third book is planned and I hope I don't have to wait too long for it.

Well written, interesting and entertaining read

I enjoyed every page of this delightful book. The characters were well described and believable, and the author knows her subject well. Life around a stable and the care of horses was accurate. Even though the ability to actually communicate with animals at the level shown in this book is debatable, it was believable to the reader. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

I really like this book a lot. I like all the characters, I like the storyline and I like the creativity behind writing the story. I hope that they are more in the series because I want to read more!!

I love it that I have a kindred spirit who loves Star Wars, Star Trek and Lord of the Rings. I’ll have to check out her other genre!!

Talk to the Hoof was a cute Hallmark-esque mystery novel. Relatively light hearted for a mystery, it has you guessing until the very end. A fun read, it makes you root for the protagonists. I even fell in love with the animals.

Three Girlfriends Solve the Crime

With the help of a handsome detective and a charming stable-hand, three girls (a little older than you'd think, but not based on the way they act), have reconnected and aim to save a widow and her horse ranch!

But wait, there's more! Kallie the animal vet, communicates with animals and can receive "visions" of things that have happened to them! All she has to do is interpret and understand the mysterious clues!

There's horseback riding, cheerful and friendly pets, pizza, and more than one good looking young man interested in Kallie! If only her meddling mother would stop interfering!

I gave this sincere story a fair shot. It's written for young people or as a nice clean cozy mystery, but when the characters cry and insist that they "must help save a horse" that belongs to someone else and is merely "missing" a horse friend and the place it used to board, it gets too melodramatic. Although it can be upsetting, it is not a reason to save an animal from its owner. (Not an isolated outburst of very childish over-drama that's just embarrassing.)

It pained me to give this book 2 stars out of 5, but if I'd had to read this aloud, I could not have done it with a straight face (or without embarrassment), because the "girls" are easily nearing 30 years old and should have emotionally matured somewhat beyond 'television depicted middle-school.' [Sorry for the harshness! Nancy Drew would never have shouted or cried out like these women, and she was a teenager.]

I received a free copy of this book through voracious readers in exchange for an honest review. I didn’t realise that this is actually the 2nd book in the Kallie Collins series but even though I had not read the 1st book I found that I could follow this story well.
What I liked about this book is that it is different – I can’t think of any other books that have an animal communicator as the main lead. Kallie was easy to like as were all of her friends though I feel that they lacked their own personality. The other characters in this book all had their own personality so all was not lost there. I did find it a talent that the author wrote Ariel (the dog), Ella (the cat), Ravi (a horse) and Smokey (a horse) in to the book so well that I couldn’t help but fall in love with them.
I hate to say it but I did struggle with this book because I really wanted to enjoy it. There seemed to be a lot of the same thing going on; Kallie going to work, coming home, having a shower, eating food and drinking Pepsi whilst having her friends around for a chat. The conversations were much the same too and I felt myself getting bored and really having to force myself to continue to read. I think the book was missing that big ‘OH MY GOD’ moment that all books need.

I enjoy a good crime novel and was intrigued by the ‘can talk to animals’ twist. After reading the blurb, I did think it would be a little darker and more intense but it was still a nice little mystery. I like that the animal talking wasn’t overdone. I hadn’t read the first book in this series but was still able to follow the story easily and enjoy this as a stand alone novel. I enjoyed the writing style as I followed Kallie and her friends (human and animal) as they did a little sleuthing. Over all it was an easy and enjoyable book to read and I am now curious about other books that feature these characters.

A quick mystery read involving an animal communicator vet who works with horses among other animals. I found that the characters didn’t have much personality and that their reactions to the ongoing investigation were unrealistic. I mean, getting annoyed with a detective for not sharing info about an ongoing criminal investigation. Really?

Although it’s the second book in the series I didn’t have trouble picking it up and following along. It was more of a Hallmark version of a murder mystery than serious book. A good beach read.

I once again enjoyed a Lisa Shay Mystery and this one focuses on horses (my 2nd love next to dogs). The characters remained the same from the first adventure and I continue to like the way they are presented and the way they get along with each other. This one was a little different in that the communication was not all through our heroine (Kallie) but had an intermediary (Ariel). I did drop one of the starts because this book had a number of typos and it always makes me pause, read the sentence over again, and then move on. The book itself does deserve 4 stars.

Totally enjoyable. This one involves stables, a professor, horse veterinarian, and confusion galore. When a young woman disappears and a dead body is discovered, of course Kallie inadvertently gets involved. Between a couple of horses at the stables, and the dogs, the mystery deepens. Can Kallie with the help of her friends, the detective, and the animals help solve this case before more bodies drop? Loved it!

With thanks to Voracious readers for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A cosy crime for lovers of animals and mystery.
I enjoyed this light read very much and in particular our heroine Kallie who uses her clairsense to `talk to the animals`learning what they feel and see to help her solve the crime.
Perfect for cozy crime readers and a book that will encourage me to read more form this author.

I received a free copy via Voracious Readers. From beginning to end the story kept me guessing. Well written, good pace and descriptions, this story blended reality with fiction.
There were several twists and turns to keep one on one’s toes. Although the story had to switch focus on different characters, it was well done and not distracting.
I look forward to similar crime solving stories through animals in the future. Definitely recommend.

thoroughly enjoyable read. Light hearted and funny sat down and finished this one in a couple of hours, kept me hooked. I received this book from voracious readers and was a little dubious at first but this one exceeded my expectations and I would be more than happy to read more by this author. A vet who can read animals thoughts while not exactly a new concept (Dr Doolittle) this one doubles as a detective and the story keeps you guessing to the end.

Talk to the Hoof Book 2 Pet Communicator Cozy Mystery

Kallie goes horse riding and encounters a horse that shares about a missing woman and danger. As the story progresses Kall also encounters another horse with another story. Her dog Ariel becomes the one the horses speak to her through. Missing owners to a very controlling former Military man carry this book for the reader
Add romance and the reader gets a fun adventure to fill the weekend with. A great read.
