A good collection of issues for those who want to know how Venom was created.
Peter is back from planet Battleworld with his new amazing suit that responds to his thoughts. Physically exhausted he tries to rest and then put things in his life right. Life never seems to be easy for him as new enemies and old friends make their appearance. On top of all the suit turns out to be an alien symbiote that wants to become one with Peter. He gets rid of it but when it finds Eddie Brock, someone who shares the same for Spider-Man they emerge and we have the birth of ve-ve-ve-Venom.
There are a lot of things well written here. I like Puma, although he is been hired to get rid of Spider-Man, he does it for the thrill. He doesn't need the money but the stronger the prayer the bigger the satisfaction of the victory.
Mary J's background story, not only it gives more depth to her character but it helps Peter too. What suprised me more was the relationship between Peter and Black Cat. At first it seems great , she looks like she really cares but when Peter stops behaving like Spider-Man and shows a more vulnerable side, she immediately stops liking him. So she liked the persona but not the person.
Lastly the art by McFarlane is great for Venom.

Maybe storylines and artworks aged not much well at all, but the issues with Puma, Hobgoblin and Mary Jane's untold past tale collected into this mixed bag reminded me that the DeFalco/Frenz 80s run on Spider-Man was just one of my all-time favorite ones for the character.
Maybe this is just a strong nostalgia attack, but now I wanna re-read it as soon as possible.

Този най-обемен до момента албум от серията Върховна колекция графични романи е събрал следните броеве: Amazing Spider-Man #252 Завръщане у дома; #256 Дебютът на пумата; #257 Яростта на пумата; #258 Новия костюм на Спайдър-мен; #259 Спомени за моето минало; Web of Spider-Man #1: Докато смъртта ни раздели и юбилейния (по случай 25 годишнината на супергероя) Amazing Spider-Man #300 Венъм. Другият ценен момент е, че можем да се насладим на арта на цели трима художници - Рон Френц, Грег ЛаРок и Тод Макфарлейн, творили за Marvel през 80-те години на миналия век (1984, 1985 и 1988).
Уви, сценарийните решения с пространни монолози на Спайди, буквално повтарящи екшън сцените, на моменти доста ме придразваха. А преводачески бъгчета и липса на качествена редакция се усещаха на почти всяка страница, но... здраве да е. Така или иначе съм в телешки възторг от кампанията на издателство Hachette.

80-те в САЩ са били прекрасно време за комикс феновете :D . Това не е една голяма история, а по-скоро "сборник" с различни комикси от периода, в който Венъм се оформя като персонаж. Много съм доволен, защото ми беше любопитно да видя как са се развивали по онова време историите.
Има персонажи в "Спайдърмен", които според мен незаслужено са си останали назад в годините. Пумата например изглеждаше уникално як злодей, в който има хляб за съвременен култов образ. Розата също беше колоритен.
Забавно беше и как авторите "сексуализират" (не е туй, дет` си го мислите!) определени герои, очевидно търсещи вече по-възрастна аудитория. Някои неща бяха доста WTF =)
Абе, култова подборка като цяло. Доволен съм.

След реалистично-нарисувания и издаден наскоро железен човек в брой 4 на яката комикс-поредица, този брой не би могъл да е по-различен.
Дебелата книжка съдържа 6 броя от първата половина на 60-те години, събрани, защото имат нещо общо с Венъм.
Ярките цветове подхождат добре на инфантилните сюжети. Монолозите на главния герой са убиец на мозъчни клетки, а като цяло и останалият текст също. Преводаческите и редакционните пропуски си държат стабилно нивото от предишните броеве.
В края на книжката има кратка история на симбиота Венъм, която в 3/4 дословно повтаря написаното в книгата.
Дебелата книжка съдържа 6 броя от първата половина на 60-те години, събрани, защото имат нещо общо с Венъм.
Ярките цветове подхождат добре на инфантилните сюжети. Монолозите на главния герой са убиец на мозъчни клетки, а като цяло и останалият текст също. Преводаческите и редакционните пропуски си държат стабилно нивото от предишните броеве.

Бих казала, че този брой най-малко ми допадна от всичките досега. Първоначално ми стана интересно да чета комикс, който си личи, че е с по-стар начин на представяне (стил на рисуване, речеви балончета и тн.). Обаче бързо се забелязва разликата между „тогава“ и „сега“ чисто стилово.
Имаше сцени, които ми се струваха прекалено cringe, а някои реплики ми идваха в повече. Вероятно това се дължи и донякъде на превода.
Колкото и да харесвам Венъм като персонаж, този път не останах впечатлена. Вероятно се влияя и от по-новите комикси за героя, които съм чела. Все пак виждам защо този комикс е избран да бъде част от „Върховната колекция“, а допълнителната информация на финала относно историята на Венъм и създателите му я намирам за много интересна.

Започвам с лошата новина - транскрипциите на имената на авторите са сгрешени на корицата. Проверих в английската Wikipedia и се надявам, че там не лъжат за произношението. Та, и този път издателите на са се измъкнали без грешки.
Продължавам с хубавото. Петият графичен роман от луксозната Marvel колекция е наистина мащабен проект. Обемът му е като за стандартна книга, а освен това включва по-стари броеве на комикси, което води и до повече текст.
“Раждането на Венъм” не може да се нарече завършен роман. Събраните издания проследяват историята на черния костюм, който попада в ръцете на Спайдър-мен от извънземен свят, след т.нар. Тайни войни. В началото Питър Паркър смята, че притежава развита технология, която предусеща действията му. След посещение при Рийд Ричардс обаче плетачът на паяжини разбира, че на гърба си носи живо същество - симбиот, който се опитва да се слее с него.
Питър смята, че се е отървал от “костюма”, когато в последния брой от томчето се появява нов мистериозен злодей - Венъм или Еди Брок. Симбиотът е намерил нов притежател, чието тяло да използва, а самият Брок няма нищо против - той се чувства недосегаем и много по-силен от Спайдър-мен.
Историите, събрани в книгата, ми допаднаха, макар и да не ги почувствах като единен роман. Не са включени последователни броеве, което може да е проблемно за начинаещите читатели на Marvel, но в началото отново е включена предистория. Разяснения има и между отделните броеве, а това доста помага. Размяната на реплики също е доста по-богата, спрямо съвременните комикси, така че е по-лесно да опознаем героите. Ще ви направи впечатление, че и илюстрациите се променят. Нормално е, тъй като екипът зад различните броеве не е един и същ.

Das war wirklich eine eher anstrengende Ausgabe der Sammlung.
Man wird direkt hineingeworfen und kriegt dauerhaft Hinweise auf eine Geschichte, die vor diesem Band gespielt hat, denn irgendwo muss dieser Symbiont namens Venom ja herkommen – allerdings werden diese spezifischen Sachen nicht hier erklärt, sondern wie sich weiter herausstellte im Verlaufe des Lesens, gibt es die Vorgeschichte wohl tatsächlich erst in einer viel späteren Ausgabe.
War von der Reihenfolge der Veröffentlichung her vielleicht nicht so schlau geplant, denn einige Fragen wirft es auf den ersten Seiten schon auf und man hat das Gefühl, man hätte was Wichtiges verpasst, aber nun gut, das will ja nicht das einzige Manko an diesem Band sein.
Nach etwas mehr als der Hälfte, ist der erste Handlungsabschnitt abgeschlossen. In diesem Teil gab es schon sehr viele Sprünge zwischen einzelnen Orten und Perspektiven. Was dem ganzen allerdings die Krone aufsetzt, ist, dass nach dieser magischen Grenze einfach ein Epilog kommt und dann eine Zusammenfassung weiterer Ereignisse, bevor es weiter geht.
Solche Zeitsprünge folgen noch zwei weitere Male und es vergehen Monate, in denen Dinge passieren, die für das Finale des Bandes sicher essentiell gewesen wären, so aber weder Sinn machen, noch irgendwelche Emotionen hervor locken können.
Die Charaktere...
Ich weiß ja, dass Spider-Man/Peter sehr viele Sprüche raus haut, was sich scheinbar auch in einem erwachsenen Alter fortsetzt, aber gerade zu Beginn war es sehr viel stupides Gelaber.
Man schlägt keine Mädchen... nicht nach 22 Uhr.
Ja, nee, wie wäre es mit gar nicht?
Auch Black Cat erscheint hier nicht gerade in einem tollen Licht. Ehrlich gesagt hatte ich mich zuvor auf diesen Charakter gefreut, einfach um sie mal ein wenig besser kennen zu lernen, aber auch bei ihr fehlte mir für diese Geschichte einfach zu viel Backstory und dazu lässt man sie nicht gerade sympathisch erscheinen; eher wie ein besitzergreifender, liebestoller Teenager.
Bis sie dann durch einen Zeitsprung einfach in der Versenkung verschwindet.
Die Einzige, die mir ein bisschen die Leserei gerettet hat, war Mary Jane.
Über sie erfährt man hier tatsächlich eine Menge und es macht ihren Charakter und ihre Handlungen wesentlich nachvollziehbarer.
Wäre sie nicht gewesen, hätte dieses Durcheinander in der Bewertung sicher schlechter abgeschnitten.

Популяризаторская выжимка из «паучьего канона» (шесть выпусков, с мая 1984 по май 1988 года) со всеми мало мальски важными эпизодами на пути превращения черного инопланетного костюма Питера Паркера в самостоятельную боевую единицу. Рекомендуется, в первую очередь, тем, кто настолько прикипел к старому мульту и фильмам Сэма Рэйми, что до сих пор винит в утечке погибших космонавтов.
Читается местами неровно (слишком много больших лакун) плюс может сказаться поколенческое предубеждение перед пыльными комиксами из 80-х, но зато читается с большим вовлечением. Во-первых, Том Де Фалько - отличный сценарист. И рассказчик - не хуже Дэна Слотта. Во-вторых, помимо штрихпунктирной истории симбиота в выбранных фрагментах есть еще несколько важных для канона эпизодов. Первое появление Пумы, индейца-кисани Томаса Фаерхарта. История временного союза сына Кингпина и первого Хобгоблина. Первое большое возвращение Мэри Джейн, где она рассказывает про собственное детство и наконец признаётся в том, что давно знает о двойной жизни Питера. Ну, и сам Питер Паркер. Он здесь небритый, брутальный, пытается мутить с Харди, носить чёрное и бумажный пакет на голове.

Just the perfect comic to understand how Venom was created!
At first, Spider-man brought him on earth as a costume. Well, let's say it was a clever one, as it adapted to what Spidey was thinking 🤔💭.
Spider-man found out that his costume was a living one, a symbiote.
As it seems, it also has emotional intelligence, as it left Peter to leave, after he tried to kill it.
Nevertheless, Venom wasn't killed and he found a new host, Eddie Brock. Together they try to take revenge on Spider-man.
*Mary Jane reveals that she had known from a long time that Peter is Spider-man. 🕷🕷🕷
**We also have a clear view on Mary Jane's past, from when she was a little girl. So, there is more behind her huge confidence and she finally put the mask off to let Peter see her real self and her secrets about her past.
***After a while she and Peter got married but this isn't gonna be a normal life, as they both know.

Uma boa seleção de histórias para conhecer a origem do Venom. O intuito de apresentar a origem do Venom e como isso influenciou na vida do Peter é bem contado, mas por se tratar de histórias específicas que buscam falar do Venom, o leitor fica um pouco perdido em alguns momentos em relação ao contexto de cada história, pois a única semelhança entre elas é que o Venom participa de alguma forma. No geral, uma boa leitura do Miranha.

Hajde što je sjajna priča, ali ovde Draško briljira prevodom (da mi je neko pre 20 godina rekao da ću ovo da pišem i govorim...) i hachette izdanje (s kioska) je u odnosu cena/kvalitet apsolutno fenomenalno.

Венъм винаги е бил сред любимите ми злодеи. А колкото по-ужасяващ, влечугоподобен и извънземен е, толкова по-добре. :D
Познавам го повече от киното, отколкото от комиксите, така и бях пропуснала частта, в която се разбира произходът му. Имах някаква представа, че има общо със Спайдър-мен, но каква..
И така, в тази част от страхотната поредица на Марвел всичко ми се изясни - как се появява, защо, от къде и прочие. И още повече заобичах образа на този извънземен симбиот.
А сцените на приплъзващия се напред-назад костюм са ми любими и искрено се забавлявам на тях. :D
Познавам го повече от киното, отколкото от комиксите, така и бях пропуснала частта, в която се разбира произходът му. Имах някаква представа, че има общо със Спайдър-мен, но каква..
И така, в тази част от страхотната поредица на Марвел всичко ми се изясни - как се появява, защо, от къде и прочие. И още повече заобичах образа на този извънземен симбиот.
А сцените на приплъзващия се напред-назад костюм са ми любими и искрено се забавлявам на тях. :D

The collection I read is different from what is listed. My edition includes: The Amazing Spider-Man #252, 256-259, Web Of Spider-Man #1 and excerpt from The Amazing Spider-Man #299 plus The Amazing Spider-Man #300.
It is an anthology of stories that give at best an overview of the origin story of Venom. If you read it with the expectation it is a graphic novel with a beginning, a middle and an end you will be disappointed. It lacks Secret Wars #6 which introduces Venom on Battleworld. This collection starts with Spidey's return to New York after the events of Secret Wars. If you are interested in the history of Venom you will need to read the Secret Wars for a more complete picture.
With anthologies of this nature is suffers the common issues of lack of consistency i story telling and art. There are three writers Tom DeFalco, Louise Simonsson and David Micheline. And three artists: Ron Frenz, Greg LaRocque. It also picks out stories from over four year the life of Spidey which throws you out of the continuity.
In the first story is planning on catching up with Aunt May then in the second, four issues later he is not laking to her. The end of issue #259 has Spidey rekindling his relationship with Mary Jane we miss his break up with Black Cat and the marriage with Mary Jane.
There are also problems with the serial nature of the story telling which works for a serial but does not sit well within a graphic novel format. There is a constant retiling of the events from the previous issue to allow readers to catch up.
I also have a problem with the telling instead of just showing. There are times when the writers seem to lack faith that the picture can tell us what is going on without the protagonist providing commentary to explain what we seeing.
The story does have some historical value but I would not recommend going out of your way to read it.

If you are interested in the history of Venom you will need to read the Secret Wars for a more complete picture.
With anthologies of this nature is suffers the common issues of lack of consistency i story telling and art. There are three writers Tom DeFalco, Louise Simonsson and David Micheline. And three artists: Ron Frenz, Greg LaRocque. It also picks out stories from over four year the life of Spidey which throws you out of the continuity.
In the first story is planning on catching up with Aunt May then in the second, four issues later he is not laking to her. The end of issue #259 has Spidey rekindling his relationship with Mary Jane we miss his break up with Black Cat and the marriage with Mary Jane.
There are also problems with the serial nature of the story telling which works for a serial but does not sit well within a graphic novel format. There is a constant retiling of the events from the previous issue to allow readers to catch up.
I also have a problem with the telling instead of just showing. There are times when the writers seem to lack faith that the picture can tell us what is going on without the protagonist providing commentary to explain what we seeing.
The story does have some historical value but I would not recommend going out of your way to read it.

Spider-Man n'est décidement pas mon préféré. Je ne sais pas pourquoi mais à part les version ciné, j'ai toujours un peu de mail avec le peu de comic books que j'ai lu sur lui. J'aime bien Peter, et les autres personnages mais quelque chose ne clique pas. Dommage.

The Black Suit arc is by far the most famous and most popular arc in the Spider-Man franchise, to the point where every adaptation of the Spider-Man franchise is just expected to have it at some point. So naturally, I was excited to see it show up for the first time in the comics. It’s not often you get to see comic book history be written right in front of you, and I can only imagine what it must have been like for readers to read these issues monthly as they came out.
Because all these ideas were created as they went along, it isn’t as thought out as they were years later in stuff like the movies and cartoons. A lot of what we know now comes from the ’90s Spider-Man cartoon that had to be nice to doves. That’s where things like the suit making Peter evil and him knowing Eddie Brock before he became Venom comes from. So, all those things that you would think would be a given by this point don’t show up in this arc, which made me feel quite underwhelmed by it. This collection ranges from nice to “uh”. But I didn’t hate it, as there were still loads of things to like. But because of everything I know from other versions, I couldn't help but be underwhelmed.
The things I liked about this story weren’t the bigger moments, but rather the smaller ones, which were always the main feature of the Spider-Man series. In the first issue, Spider-Man and the other Marvel Heroes return from Battle World from the Secret Wars event, and not having read that before this and being as confused as everyone on earth was, actually made it more intriguing to me. The mystery of what happened on Battle World and the way Spidey had to readjust to life back on Earth made it feel all the more personal to the reader. It asks the question, “How does someone readjust to their only normal everyday life after being in such a cosmic event like that”?
There was also an issue of Mary Jane telling Peter about her troubled childhood and how a lot of the people close to her went from decent to psychopaths. This could have been one of the greatest comic issues of all time if it weren’t for the Hobgoblin stuff and the fact that Peter and MJ aren’t together during it. This really made Peter and MJ feel very close and reminded you why they are the perfect pairing. And MJ’s story, while slightly tedious, we are appropriately tragic and seeing how her Father and Step-Brother suddenly loose there minds in an instant was quite something. I think that if something like the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon had done a whole episode of “just” that, then it would be seen as one of the best episodes of that show. It feels like something a fan comic might do, like a Sonamy comic, if that counts as a mark of quality.
Another small moment I liked was when MJ asks Peter to photograph her, and he tries doing the sexy photographer voice like “yeahh, work it for me, baby”. You can’t hear him say it, but you can hear it in your mind as you read it; in a very awkward and disinterested fashion. It just goes to show how good the writing is and how well the character of Peter Parker is defined. You know him so well that you can tell what he’s thinking without needing context. And in another great Peter/MJ moment, MJ undresses and lets him take photos for their private collection. Again, they are such a perfect match that you don’t see much in other versions.

But much of the rest of the comic was just the same as a lot of other comics, being just random moments of tough-jawed guys looking really angry at each other, and then a fight breaks out. And as for Venom, he’s not much in this one. Again, he didn’t know Peter before meeting him for the first time, and he got beaten quite easily in the end. I liked the part where he shows up in Peter and MJ’s apartment and scares MJ, which I wish would be in more adaptations, but once he makes his presence known, he’s just gone. And some of the other stuff is just as underwhelming. The Symbiote is just blasted off of Spidey’s body and then comes back just so we can do the bell thing that in other versions is the big finale. It’s not a good singe if every other version of this story can do a better job at it than the one it derives from.
I wanted to give this a higher score, but I just couldn't, and not for lack of trying. Picking up immediately after the events of 'Secret Wars', Spider-Man returns to Earth sporting a new black costume which features remarkable powers of its own. When the costume begins to behave strangely, however, Spidey learns that it is in fact an intelligent alien symbiote attempting to permanently bond with him. His desperate attempts to separate himself from the costume will eventually lead to the creation of one of his most dangerous enemies ever; Venom.
One of the things that makes Venom's origin so compelling is that it was built-up slowly over time, with the alien costume going from just a cool gimmick, to a threat and, eventually, to a fully-fledged enemy. This book charts that story as we slowly start to see the effect the black costume's behaviour has on his life, particularly in the creepy way it sneaks up on Peter when he's asleep and takes his body for a joyride.
It all feels like a strong progression and the only real downside to the whole story is Eddie Brock himself. His motivation for revenge (i.e. Spider-Man proved an article he wrote was unintentionally untrue) feels really thin and unconvincing.
On top of the great alien costume shenanigans, we also see the return of MJ, who I'm a big fan of, to Peter's life and some action involving Puma and Hobgoblin.
So pretty enjoyable stuff, really.

Като за човек, сблъскващ се за първи път и не особен почитател на графичните романи (комикси) бих казала, ще Раждането на Венъм си заслужава да му се отдели време. Доста добре написано като за комикс, с добри илюстрации. Критиката трик ще бъде откъм преводът и липсата на всякаква редакция - за пореден път и брой тя просто липсва, което адски дразни... По отношение на превода - гоблинът си е гоблин, не е караконджул (изобщо това са коренно различни неща и част от българския фолклор)... Та преводачът нека не се прави на много интересен и да се е мъчи да е оригинален, а да се придържа към вече утвърден превод с подобни чуждици...

Naskočih i ja na ovaj Hachette vagon, iako mislim da ću izaći mnogo ranije od planiranog. Po ceni po kojoj se ovo prodavalo bilo je teško ne naskočiti.
Simpatična je ova priča, očekivao sam mnogo naivnije obzirom da je priča iz zlatnog doba kad su stripovi još uvek bili naivni i okrenuti mlađoj publici. Na kraju mi je bilo zanimljivo osetiti duh te ere stripova što grafički, što narativno, pogotovo što se oseti u kom pravcu će ići sve kasnije.
Klasična superherojština ali ima i deo sapunice sa Mary Jane koji je lepo odrađen.
I solidno je ovde Hachette probrao epizode pokušavajući da ih smesti u neku celinu u čemu i uspeva, ali heroji iz tog perioda su toliko povezani da čak i omnibusi koje se izdaju se bore sa tim kako da zaokruže celinu a kamoli knjiga od 200tinjak strana.
Tehnikalije su odlične ovde i u odnosu cena/kvalitet daju sjajno izdanje. Hachette na domaćem terenu je postavio pitanje domaćim izdavačima - jel vidite da može?! A to je da se dobije orginalni američki trade format u tvrdim koricama na dobrom papiru i u kvalitetnoj štampi a po povljnoj ceni. Jer mi godinama slušamo od domaćih izdavača kako to ne može.

Значи прочетох го най-сетне Спайдър-мен-а.
Няма да крия, че олд скуул рисунъка с много текст ми е слабост и много ме изкефи. Проблема ми беше с тоя безумен супер герой. Опитах да му симпатизирам, но въобще не ме зариби. Сценария не е лош и на моменти прелиствах с интерес какво ще се случи нататък. Венъм, няма много участие тук въпреки заглавието. Реално, чак в последната част "се роди". Като оценка ми е по-средата някъде.

I quite liked Birth of Venom, especially because I was hoping after Secret Wars we’d see Spider-Man’s story continue with the symbiote. I liked the first few issues more than I liked the second especially with the big time jump (due to them being different comics) and how a lot of stuff changed that we didn’t see but overall it was a decent story.

Mientras Peter lucha por mantener su vida equilibrada y proteger a sus seres queridos, Eddie se sumerge en su odio y desesperación, encontrando en el simbionte una segunda oportunidad para vengarse. Esta dualidad añade una capa de complejidad a la historia, mostrando que los verdaderos monstruos pueden surgir de la desesperación, el deshonor y la venganza.
