Touching moments and a big shake up, but sometimes I was pretty confused about what was happening where and why. Still, it feels better to give a four star review and makes me feel more positive about the reading, so I am rounding up :)
The girls' world is shaken up in this volume as a disaster forces them to "graduate" from their high school and look for answers to the zombie plague. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the girls function outside of the school!
This was an action-packed, full of tears volume! As I already thought in the previous volume, the event that happened in this volume is indeed the cause for the girls to graduate! To move on. Of course they already wanted to move on, but now they have got to. The school isn't liveable any more. Thank you zombies. :|
I was on the seat of my chair for most of the volume. At first it starts off quite nice with the girls hosting some sort of Culture Festival and them making a radio show about it. Then things happen and our girls are up on the roof when poop hits the fan, when the helicopter appears, and when it crashes. Miki and Kurumi are crazy enough to go downstairs and outside to check it out (just in case someone is alive), while Rii and Yuki stay upstairs. I have to say I was shouting at the girls to not go outside, to just stay inside, to run to the basement, to seek safety. It was just such a horror cliche to go outside when you know it is a terrible idea.
In this volume all the girls are experiencing some terrifying moments (Miki and Kurumi outside, Yuki and Rii inside/on the roof), but it seems Rii is the most affected. I don't even want to think of what Rii was planning at that moment, but I can be sure we have Yuki to thank for stopping her. Throughout this volume we see Rii wavering between protecting and collapsing. She is just not holding it any more, which doesn't surprise me. She is the one who never really showed any sort of discomfort, pain, hurt. I think she, like Yuki (though less extreme), just tried not to think about it too much. Just tried to override her mind with chores so she wouldn't have to think of the pain inside of her. But now? Now it is all pouring out. I just want to hug and hold the girl.
Yuki on the other hand is showing clearer and clearer signs that she is just pretending that she is fine. Not like the previous times when you could see she was truly oblivious. I am not sure what is worse. The knowing Yuki who hides it, or the oblivious Yuki who doesn't know at all.
Thankfully for the girls they have the basement. Now that zombie-nee is away it is a safe spot, even again fire and smoke. I was heartbroken when they went upstairs again and saw what happened to their relatively safe school. :(
Lastly their graduation. Gosh, I was already crying for quite a few parts of this volume, but this brought on a new flood. I want to wish the girls all the best. Yes, I already know what will happen, and they will need all the best wishes.
Someday I will re-read Volume 6 to 9 again, but since I only recently read 8/9 I am not really in the mood to read them again.
Of course I would highly recommend this volume (and series) to everyone!
I finished this volume a few minutes ago. I'm pretty sure this manga is going to have more volumes after this one, but honestly, if this was the last book, it would have already been okay. The ending was great in this one! I almost cried since i'm one who would cry once exposed to a tear jerking story! For most of this volume, Yuki and Rii are trying to escape a huge fire, while Kurumi and Mii-kun are trying to kill more zombies after a helicopter crashed on their school. (?) They all survived but there were some pretty emotional parts between the characters. I'm totally watching the anime. This was the best volume of School-Live so far!

There are some big changes to the status quo, which should be exciting, but the presentation was pretty muddled and even hard to follow at times. My frustration with the story made it hard to empathize when way too much time was spent with characters crying or getting all emotional. I hope things get back on track next volume.
I was really curious to see how this story would continue since the last issue showed that the students' letter had reached other people and that people were on their way in a helicopter. Seeing the helicopter crash was disappointing but the fire it caused and the sudden action and panic made for a great plotline. I also liked that we got to see more of the emotional impact that this is having on every student, even Yuki. Seeing a gun get thrown into the mix made me so worried, so I'm definitely glad it ended up being thrown away. This was one of the best volumes as I literally could not put it down and kept wondering what would happen next, but there were still fun school moments and deep moments between characters as well. I'm curious about where the series goes from here now that they're leaving the school.

A military helicopter crash results in the school catching on fire as the four girls 'graduate'.
The plot picked up in this volume with each of the girls having an important part to play. The lack of clarity is sometimes a bit annoying. Either Yuki understands what's going on (in which case, her question about what the others hope for their future is a little cruel) or she doesn't (how did she really react to the zombie in the classroom??). This is the first volume that's successfully shown a 'gross' zombie rather than a mostly black silhouette which I liked. The ending of this book shows that the series will go in a very different direction as the girls leave the school and I'm looking forward to seeing it.
I remember enjoying the anime a lot more than I currently am enjoying the manga though it was nearly 5 years ago now. Sometime the panels can be kind of hard to know what is going on and this may be impacting my enjoyment, plus it is really fast-paced so it doesn't really build up any stakes to get invested in.
This volume is so scary and gross!! These poor girls! Almost rescued, or so they thought, and now they have to leave. I can't wait to read more of their terrifying adventure.
Oooh! real world outside starts intruding... with a helicopter crash in the schoolyard, the resulting fire engulfing the school, and the volume ending with the students leaving their safe haven.
That...really didn't play out like I thought it would. Not to say that this is a bad volume, but it kinda feels like I'm at the same place I was, at the end of volume 4: waiting on the cusp of major changes for the characters. At least, with the way this one ended, I don't think there's any possible way those changes can be put off any longer, so there's that.
I like how the whole "college or a job?" metaphor carried through in the decision the girls had to make in the last chapter, because it's one of the most poignant bits of symbolism in the series thus far. Also nice to see is the toll the constant stress they're under is taking on some of them. And even though I'm still not 100% sure of the reason behind the big event that happened early on, I have a sneaking suspicion that that event (plus one throwaway line later on), foreshadows bad things for Kurumi. Time will tell.
Given the way volume 5 ended, I expect the next one to set off down a significantly different track, and I'm looking forward to it. School-Live! has been enjoyable so far, but this increased sense of urgency, and the higher stakes that come along with it should be a welcome change-up.
