Nostalgia isn’t only about the pain and pleasure we experienced as a generation, decades ago. The human values we used to share as a society should not be ignored too. The times when we didn’t have these many countless choices of TV channels and family gathering was still the best source of entertainment for the elderly as well as kids. Friendship didn’t mean give-and-take like today. And so on. Then came digitalization which brought along with itself the glamour, pretension, envy and blame-game that we see prevalent today. The people who managed to retain all those human values within themselves are now taken for granted.

Through this novella and its characters born around 90s era, the author is making an attempt to revive all those pleasant memories while motivating the readers to persevere with integrity and belief that ultimately everything falls into place.

Remember your good old school days!! If you do, this Book is for you and if you don't then this Book will take you to the lost world which we all long to live once again. No matter how much we grow up, no matter how rich we become, a part of ours will always long to live our school days once again. Isn't it?

No matter how many girls or boys we date in our life but that school crush will have some special place in our life. That lost innocence is not coming back but author has tried to enliven the most precious feelings through her work. The journey of school friends from school to college , from college to job, from job to married life, and the ups and downs in their lives described beautifully by author will have an mesmerizing effect on readers.

The story is not only about Iksha, Tithi, Ratna and Yug. The story is about you and me living our good old school days, the age of audio cassettes, greeting cards, flowers and Love letters, an era lost never to come back again. The story is about struggles yet never yielding to destiny. The story is about coming back stronger after every shock that life throws. Some of the wonderful lines from the Book are:

1) You cannot direct the wind but you can adjust the sails” foreword by Ar. Vijay Garg Acting President Council of Architecture India

2) Well, this is a thing with me. Lonely people interest me. Moreover, the more someone seems to be hiding, the more I feel like digging him or her deeper”

3) Then there is this beautiful poem in the Novel:

Dear Time, My partner in crime,
You are like a flowing river,
And I'm just a traveler,
Rowing a boat against your flow,
A tedious task but how would you know,
You sometimes manage to be in my favor, More often than not.
I manage to move a bit farther,
With my dear boat.
But sometimes you are cruel...
You don’t care how it makes me feel Be it my joy or my people,
Tell me why you steal?
Of course, it’s a fail, Whenever you add to my sorrow Tell me, how do I sail?
Through a path which is narrow All in all,
I would say, You need to be a bit more caring To make the world a place to stay,
Add scenes we can't stop staring.
For, factually God is always with you.
You must have mercy on the non-blessed few. Thank you for being the Way you have been to me You often open my eyes to The blessings prior unseen to me.

Still thinking?? Go get your copy.

Life indeed is full of pluses and minuses; advantages and disadvantages. And these pros and cons help us to create memories; memories for us to cherish.
The story is mainly about Tithi, her friends, and how their lives evolved over the years. This book has well presented that aspect and did complete justice to the title. I was hooked to the story from the start ‘cause of the familiar premise. The story was narrated in lucid language, with relatable dialogues and familiar events. Each character justified their presence and stood up to their usual character trait.
Each episode was thoughtfully composed and the relatable happenings brought back flashes of memories, which I believe, every reader will experience once they read “Plus Minus.” The author has beautifully portrayed the bond of true friendship between Tithi and Iksha. I’m sure several readers will connect with the space they shared.
Every incident and each decision has its pros and cons. Neha Sharma, the author, has covered various moments of human life to explain and present the plus-minus theory. The emotions were well handled within the story. One point that made me wonder of the author’s intention- the lengthy excerpts of the familiar songs. I guess four lines could’ve served their purpose, but then again, the author must have had some reason for putting them that way. Didn’t bother my reading though. The poem on ‘Time’ was excellent and I loved it.
How often we wonder - why me? What’s the plus in an unfavourable situation? Seldom do we find true friends to hear us out; to understand and empathize. The era of human connection vs the digital connection will make the readers realize certain important bits of life that often get missed. I felt nostalgic and was quite contented with the intention and the message.
Ratna’s chapter- the author has highlighted a very important social issue which, unfortunately, prevails in modern society. But the author wisely presented the character of Nalin to bring a balance and to show how and why the world is still a happy place. Lastly, the epilogue was well concluded with some wise words.
I recommend everyone to give this book a read. The story will surely stir those long-forgotten memories and will leave you inspired with a positive message. My best wishes for the author Neha Sharma and her book, ‘Plus Minus.’
