They have three lovely children, Cara, Faye, and Benjamin, and have always had a menagerie of animals in the house, which at the present is confined to two endearing and very comical dogs who would make a great double act on TV! The children, friends, and pets all keep the house buzzing and the food cupboards empty but Helen wouldn't have it any other way. She still lives today in Northampton with her family. Although having enjoyed some wonderful holidays abroad she has never been tempted to live anywhere else, although she rather likes the idea of a holiday home close to the sea one day.
Being a committed Christian and fervent animal lover she finds spare time is always at a premium, but long walks in the countryside with her husband and dogs, meals out followed by the cinema or theatre, reading, swimming, and having friends over for dinner are all fitted in somehow. She also enjoys sitting in her wonderfully therapeutic, rambling old garden in the sun with a glass of red wine, (under the guise of resting while thinking of course!)
For years, she was a secretary. She began writing in 1990 as she approached that milestone of a birthday 40! She realized her two teenage ambitions (writing a novel and learning to drive) had been lost amid babies and hectic family life, so set about resurrecting them.
Her first novel was for Mills and Boon and was accepted after one rewrite in 1992 as Helen Brooks, and she passed her driving test (the former was a joy and the latter an unmitigated nightmare!) She has written 50 novels as well as several sagas as Rita Bradshaw.
Since becoming a full-time writer she has found her occupation one of pure joy and often surprised when her characters develop a mind of their own but she loves exploring what makes people tick and finds the old adage "truth is stranger than fiction" to be absolutely true. She would love to hear from any readers care of Mills & Boon.

I can't decide if I liked this enough, hence the 2 stars. The H is a commitment phobe so he hurts and insults the heroine when she is just an impressionable 16 year old with a crush on him....huh? Why? Then he goes off and marries someone else and proceeds to have destructive relationships until they meet again 12 years later. Now, he is determined to pursue a sexual relationship with her, despite her hostility, but still without a commitment....Somehow, it just didn't work for me.
I don't really like stories where the H and h have all those wasted years for no good reason.

It is among few books which has earned my rating below three stars. I had not read novel for long time, and picked to read this one.
The author has developed a beautiful plot though ennui at some stages. The plot builds a journey of protagonist, Clay, a wealthy person, who attempts to rescue falling PR business of Robyn to become reluctantly her partner in sleeping.

August 14, 2025I didn't believe in the H's love for the h. If he really had loved her that much he wouldn't have married any ow. Also there was too much pitying the H, I felt that he deserved his past trauma.
Also, I don't think that their age difference was that big and he could have waited until she turned 18 or whatever age he preferred. But no, he just moved on and married some other bitch that also was a virgin like the h but older. In some books the heroines are 16 and pregnant or if I remember it right, some of them are even married (for whatever reason) and I mean in contemporary romances, not historical .

So let me get this straight... he hurt her when she was 16 by being callous and cruel, so much so that she has never been able to trust another man to get close to her, but she has STILL loved him since she was 16? What kind of martyrdom is this?
This plot is so similar to Bitter Honey by the same author. 12 years later the h is still bitter and wounded and hates the sight of the H. Unfortunately they have ridiculous chemistry, so every time he takes her into his arms, she melts, and after that she hates herself.
The good thing is that this h is not shrewish, unlike the h in Bitter Honey. However, the H is another matter altogether. We get that he has A Tragic Past but it is really hard to believe that he loved her all along when he never made any effort to get in touch with her for 12 years! Once again Brooks has gone for h-only POV so we don't have much inkling of what the H is thinking and he is the standard cold and hard, unemotional and ruthless alpha male type that Brooks favours.

I could understand why Clay had to keep his hands off Robyn because she was so young and being her sister and brother-in-law's friend it didn't feel right.
But did he need to be nasty and accuse her of being promiscuous? And did he have to do that once they met again as an adult?
If my sis did to me what Robyn's sister did (go tell Clay about Robyn's biz problems despite Robyn expressly telling her NOT TO) I'd freak out!
Overall an ok read.

This didn’t feel like an HP. I thought the heroine’s hang up was unwarranted.

Robyn memiliki bisnis humas yang sedang di ambang kehancuran. Satu satunya cara adalah ia harus bekerja sama dengan Clay Lincoln. Pria kaya raya yang dulu pernah dicintai Robyn ketika masih remaja.
Karena itu ketika pertama kali bertemu dengan Clay, Robyn masih mengingat penolakan pria itu terhadapnya dan berkeras menolak kerja sama itu.
Clay adalah seorang pria yang selalu menyimpan rapat rapat perasaannya sehingga tidak ada seorang pun yang tahu, bahkan masa lalu tentang pernikahannya dengan Laura pun tidak banyak orang yang tahu.
Clay ternyata mencintai Robyn sejak dulu, tapi Clay tidak sanggup untuk mengatakannya karena ia mengira Robyn seperti ibunya.

Dan hal pertama untuk menyakinkan Robyn akan perasaannya adalah ia harus menunjukan peraasaaanya yang sebenarnya pada Robyn.

Lumayanlah ... antara suka dan tidak dengan ide bahwa Clay juga udah suka ama Robyn. Klise banget, tapi namanya juga hq. :p

masa kelam yg dialami Clay membuatnya saat berumur 23 tahun belum bisa memahami perasaannya sendiri ketika ia tertarik pada Robyn..
ternyata mereka berdua memang ditakdirkan untuk bersama..

This was an alright read. I liked the hero. The Heroine was fine. It had a decent plot.
