I was captivated from the beginning, with such beautiful descriptions who wouldn’t be? The descriptions of places were so beautifully written, it made me feel immersed in the story. I felt like I could see how each place looked.
I actually had to take a break from reading, not because it was bad but because the emotions were so raw? It was all to real, the guilt, conflicting emotions and the disgust the characters felt. The emotions felt to real, and so beautifully tragic.
The characters themselves were very lovable? But they also had flaws, which is what makes Edwin human and Sentos a magical being lol. Both love each other so much, to the point where they would sacrifice everything for each other- especially Sentos.
There wasn’t just a lovers love, but there was also familial love. The few interactions we saw between Edwin and his family was so sweet, you can read how much they love each other. Which is why it hurts so much more. Then there’s Sentos and Cyclos, we didn’t get many scenes that clearly showed how much they cared for each other but you just know. The love between a father and son is there, and we see how far Cyclos is willing to go to protect Sentos.
The story starts off with Edwin returning to his grandparent's home that he has just repurchased. We hear his soft memories of his grandfather and staying there in the summers. I was immediately pulled into some thoughts about my own childhood home. Edwin is a very real person; he is seeing a physiatrist and despite the loss of the memories of his grandparent's death he still feels a strong pull to be back in Whisper Woods. It calls to him. Here is where we get a romantic tale full of magic, mystery and destined lovers. There are complex and intertwined worlds, and I was captivated the entire read as it had a very atmospheric feel.
This is my second book by this author and am just as impressed as I was with the first! The story hooked me in from the beginning and I was enamoured with how beautifully written and descriptive the storyline was. It was so captivating and really emotive so much it brought tears to my eyes in places as I really felt the emotions along with the characters who are so endearing and loveable and shared a magical love for each other. I highly recommend this book and am looking forward to more from this author.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It felt like a more grown-up take on a fairy tale, but it still had that kind of cosiness that felt like a nod to traditional fairy tales. The characters were actually a little bit naughtier and sassier than I initially expected, and I liked that, it was quite refreshing. I also found the characters quite humorous, and enjoyed their chemistry. There were some satisfyingly steamy scenes as well.
Thank you to Booksprout and the author for a free copy to review.
