My new boss likes rules, but there's one nobody dares to break....
No touching his banana.
Seriously. The guy is like a potassium addict.
Of course, I touched it.
If you want to get technical, I actually put it in my mouth.
I chewed it up, too....
I even swallowed.
I know. Bad, bad, girl.
Then I saw him, and believe it or not, choking on a guy's banana does not make the best first impression.

I should backtrack a little here. Before I ever touched a billionaire's banana, I got my first real assignment as a business reporter. This wasn't the same old bottom-of-the-barrel assignment I always got. I wasn't going to interview a garbage man about his favorite routes or write a piece on how picking up dog poop from people's yards is the next big thing.

Nope. None of the above, thank you very much.

This was my big break. My chance to prove I wasn't a bumbling, clumsy, accident-prone walking disaster. I was infiltrating Galleon Enterprises to follow up on suspicions of corruption.

Cue the James Bond music.

I could do this. All I had to do was land the position as an intern and nail my interview with Bruce Chamberson.

Forget the fact that he looked like somebody carved him out of liquid female desire, then sprinkled on some "makes men question their sexuality" for good measure. I needed to make this work. No accidents. No disasters. No clumsiness. All I needed to do was hold it together for less than an hour.

Fast forward to the conference room before the interview, and that's where you would find me with a banana in my hand. A banana that literally had his name on it in big, black sharpie. It was a few seconds later when he walked in and caught me yellow-handed. A few seconds after that was when he hired me.

Yeah. I know. It didn't seem like a good sign to me, either.

Picked up this book today as an impulse purchase. I was in the mood for a rom- com and as it turns out this book really is the brand of silly, slightly slapstick adventure that I enjoy.
Lighthearted, quirky and funny but also sweet and sexy.
Fast read, adorable heroine and NOT man-whore hero (which was a relief). That has just gotten old for me, so over it. Not that I think I was really into it in the first place but I digress.
Entertaining read and my first by Penelope Bloom.
It was the title and cover that caught my attention so props to the author and publisher.
As you can imagine there were a lot of banana references included here but they were truly in relation to the fruit itself , that Bruce enjoyed daily on a strict time schedule.

I stumbled across this on Amazon free books and I'm not sure what grabbed my attention first, the cover, the title or the blurb but regardless it was a must click if there ever was one.

There were certain things I expected from this book, I expected to laugh, cringe, feel dishevelled and it delivered, massively. I felt the same as when I accidentally ate a whole tub of Ben and Jerry's mint choc chip ice cream, naughty, giddy, ruffled and wanting more.

These kind of books are never going to win any literacy awards but they have a very solid standing in my life, for those weeks where the mundane takes over, to combat the reading slumps.

Will I be continuing the series, oh yes, I'll be putting the rest in the freezer for future slumps without a doubt.

Shout out to Ahmed, Zain, Chafic, Sandy and Salema who read / are reading this alongside me, fused together by Bruce and his Banana. Always.

At time of posting this series is available on Kindle Unlimited.

I was in the mood for a light & humorous book to read on a lazy rainy afternoon and I came across this and in the most part, it lived up to my expectations.

Color me blind, but with that picture & title, what was not to love????

So as you can guess from the title, the Hero in this story L-O-V-E-S ❤❤ Bananas! Yes, folks, he has a banana fetish, go-figure! From the first chapter until the last, this clever author had me in stitches. It is really a funny story with lovable characters.

The heroine, Natasha, is a struggling journalist working for a rundown magazine in which she is constantly being given fluff stories to write about. Oh.... and she is a major klutz, constantly broke and always taking care of her older dead-beat brother! (I had major girl-crush on this chick as she was just too funny & cute!!).

The Hero, Bruce, is a billionaire & a workaholic who runs his business with his partner & twin brother William. He also has "issues" - the kind that because he was hurt by a past relationship with a woman, he has shut down. Meaning that he has become cold & robotic with control issues. MAJOR control issues! Like the fact that he has a place for everything in which God forbid if anyone touches or moves anything not to his specifications (loved the scene in which heroine's brother goes to live with Hero & the scene about his couch!). Then there is his strict regiment of what & when he eats and how he starts & ends each day!

Some of the funniest moments was his love of bananas which he has to have one each day at a certain time and which has to be "perfect" according to his requirements. He marks his banana with his name every day because he eats healthy and that is his one indulgence for the day - every day! It is because of this "need" of his that he comes to meet heroine one day who at instructions from her boss, she has applied as an intern at his company in order to find dirt on him.

On the day that Natasha goes to interview, she stops by the cafeteria and picks up Bruce's banana, not realizing that his name is on it! When Hero goes to eat his banana, heroine has been caught with his banana in her mouth and he is beyond furious!

"She had the fucking nerve to touch my banana? My throat was tight with rage and indignation".
"Don’t look so pleased with yourself. If I liked you, I would send you packing. You’re going to wish you never touched my banana, Intern. I promise you that.”

So Hero strikes a deal with heroine in which she has to buy him a banana each day and shuffle him around. He wants to make her miserable so that she can quit - as payback for eating his banana!😜

Some of the funniest lines that had me in stitches is:

" I was late. I’d done everything in my power to be on time, including planning on catching the train that should’ve had me at Galleon with thirty minutes to spare. I’d even shooed Braeden out of my apartment the night before and texted my parents to help ensure he wouldn’t end up back at my place in a few hours. Of course, I hadn’t budgeted time for the explosive diarrhea my French bulldog, Charlie, decided to have all over the apartment. He was a nervous pooper, and he was also extremely empathetic. I guess he picked up on my nerves and cluster-bombed the apartment as a kind of canine act of solidarity"

William followed her to the fridge as she rummaged for god-knew-what. "He has a chronic condition. They found the stick up his ass when we were just kids and the doctors said we couldn't remove it without killing him. Naturally we all tried as hard as we could to pull it out, but the stubborn bastard never gave us an inch. So, he is a tight-ass too. It's tragic really, when you think about it. Sometimes I lay awake at night trying to figure out what came first... the stick, or the tight ass."

"So he's kind of barbaric? Sexy?". " More like robotic. Sexy, yes, but he's like a microwaved burrito. Scolding hot on the outside, and cold as ice on the inside".

" By the way, keep wearing the pencil skirts. The whole secretary look - It's like a fetish for him. Really gets him excited. He's like an old car. Hard to start-up, but once you get him going, he REALLY goes. Just keep at it, kid!"

So why not 5 stars? Well because while it is totally safe as there is no cheating & Hero is not a manwhore,

As for the HEA, that was a bit disappointing for me because
It's still a good light read though that had me cracking up throughout the story.

I thought this was a romcom. Based on the blurb, I thought it would get a chuckle out of me.

Not a lip twitch to be found.

His Banana features Bruce Chamberson, the rich co-owner (with his identical twin) of Galleon Enterprises, a firm that does some sort of marketing. I'm still not sure what it does and nothing about the story solidified the reasons for its success. Natasha is a fledgling reporter at a borderline bankrupt business paper who has to infiltrate Galleon as an intern to get some dirt on Bruce.

Beyond the part in the story where Natasha ate Bruce's banana (and I'm talking about an actual yellow banana), I failed to connect with this story. I actually found this book hard to get through. I liked Bruce, I didn't like Natasha, and I'm still trying to figure out the purpose of his ex and the kid subplot. I just didn't see the point! The characters lacked depth and this didn't help them achieve any. I did think Bruce's brother and Natasha's brother had the potential to be really funny, but they fell flat as well.

Why did I enjoy the blurb more than this story? There are 6 books in this series already so I can only hope/assume that it gets better from here.

Second time read & review.

Wow, I definitely flew through this one. I will admit that I'm already super behind on my planned reads for July because of my hectic life. It's like everything was like.. nope, you don't get to read today.. tomorrow.. next week.. next month.. BASICALLY NEVER.

So, I decided to take days off of work because I need some me time - aka reading time. That being said, I broke into this bad boy and wasn't disappointed. I definitely fell back in love with these characters because their relationship was just hilarious. Yet, when the moment needed to be hot - it was. Definitely a book that I needed to read on my official reading day.

The one thing about this book that still annoys me to this day was the ex. Bruce's ex Valerie (I think that was her name) was a piece of work guys. Oh lord, she was a terrible mother and person. Thinking people are beneath you and shit was just ugh. She was absolute trash and definitely deserved all the karma she got in the end.

Besides all of that, I'm still not quite sure if they are engaged yet or anything but I'm hoping that books in this series might give me a hint (or two) about their relationship. Pretty please?

Pretty cute read.

His Banana was sort of a second chance at romance. Well, at least for one character. The other was just kind of getting swept of her feet - mostly because this girl was accident prone. Natasha is a broke ass reporter and who definitely finds herself in trouble a lot. Whether it's at work or in her daily life, trouble will find her ALWAYS. She get's an assignment, that no one wanted, to dig up dirty information on a company. Her task is to get the internship and then to start digging.

Of course, on her first day she is seen eating a banana. No, not any ole regular banana - Bruce's banana. Her soon-to-be-boss because he wants to make her life a living hell. So his first though was to automatically hire her as the unpaid intern. Her job? To get him a damn banana every damn day. I honestly started laughing.. because that's more of an annoyance than anything else. Heck, I'll buy bushels of bananas for him once a month. Bam - done!

Throughout the book, they each start developing feelings for one another. She somehow breaks down all of his barriers and he just let's her slither in. At one point, he can't stand it. Bruce wants her and she definitely is feeling that spark as well. They do have some teasing moments.. that lead to the oh so amazing smut ones. However, with everyone cute and predictable relationship - we get the drama that breaks them apart. Oh that dreaded drama!

Eventually they get back together, after Natasha does a lot of groveling. Which works out for the both of them - they had great chemistry and were obviously meant to be together. I loved them and wanted more. The two epilogues were adorable - I just kind of wished I got a wedding.. or an engagement.. or a baby or two? I'm greedy people and I have needs and wants.

Its not that it was bad per say, but its more because nothing was original, characters didn't hold my attention and there was no reason to finish the rest of it because this has been written so many times before.

This book deserves a rating of 3 whole bananas. I'm dead serious!!!

Thanks to all the loony heads in my book club I was pushed towards His Banana and must say, this was one of the most discussed books in the club. Michelle & Chafic's combined effort on making me feel like 'i must give it a try' and Ahmed's review that pushed me towards 'I'm going to taste his banana, and SOON' deserves appreciation.

I liked it. I really liked it. Hats off for the non E L James type writing (i'm not comparing, but.. yeah). The writing style is so catchy. It's not horrendously long which is another fact I really like. I even liked the choice of words she has used. It felt relevant for some reason. There are few plots crammed into less than 200 pages without making them disconnected from the main ride and I was actually ok with it. I'm sure she can do way better than writing about bananas.

However, among all those late night banana splits, banana tasting during office hours, Diving & riding & what not, what the fuck happened to Charlie????

My first book of the year and a re-read. I needed a light and funny book to start my dark anti-hero binge coming up. His Banana is a quick read. The concept is funny. I will say I don’t think this book is for everyone since it all started because of a food item,

Natasha is an undercover journalist and posed as an intern to get dirt on Bruce, who has an obsession with eating the perfect Banana, That he keeps in the break room to interact with his employees. As he walks in and Sees Natasha eating his Banana, he is instantly attracted to her and hires her on the spot to punish her for eating his Banana. Natasha is one hot mess, and Bruce is about order.

Did I mention Bruce is handsome, and he has a twin? I love his brother William,

“So you’re the polite one,” she said to William. “I guess that makes you the evil twin, Bruce?” William smirked at that. “Hey. Can we keep her? I like her already. No wonder you’ve got a hard-on for her.” “I’m the one without STDs,” I growled, ignoring him as much as I could.

I liked the build-up and original story. My concern is the ending was a little anti-climactic. I kind of expected more with the build-up.

***DNF*** I really wish I could press on through this book to see what all the hype is about but I can't get past chapter 5. What is it with every new romance novel portraying the heroine as a bumbling fool and calling that attractive? In what world is publicly verbally attacking the CEO of the company you work for ok? I guess the same world in which it's ok for said CEO to continuously make sexual comments to his intern (btw, CEOs don't have interns)? She spills stuff on him, dents the company car, arrives late, stumbles everywhere, and the thing is, she doesn't give a darn. She doesn't even try to be professional. That's not cute... it's inconsiderate and incompetent. Not to mention that the entire premise of going undercover for a news story is unethical these days, even for investigative reporters (which she is not). And I'm not going to even get into how the head of this major organization has time to spend his entire day devising ways to drive an INTERN to quit. That's just... never mind... SMH...

I really tried to get past all of that to get to the actual story (I made it to page 43, surely, with all the 5 stars, it gets better). But then the intern is invited to an important business meeting with the CEO (um, what?!?! are there no VPs or even managers at this company?!?!?) and makes the conscious decision to get drunk in order to teach her boss a lesson (after undermining him in front of the clients). Come on! As someone who's fought hard to be respected in corporate America for decades, I'll literally gouge my eyes out when the CEO and/or the clients inevitably find this behavior charming and endearing. So I didn't turn the page.

I really, really, really wish someone (anyone) would write a romcom about a woman who values herself, works hard in life, AND somehow still gets the guy. How is it that the older I get, the worse women are portrayed? At least Cinderella and Snow White worked their butts off when they had to... and they chose guys who didn't continuously hurt them over and over again. That makes way more sense than this. Is Disney on Kindle Unlimited lol?

A clumsy, underpaid, witty, gorgeous reporter is sent to dig for dirt in a company run by an overly organized, rich, serious, hot entrepreneur; but instead ends up with her hands on his banana.
The fruit - banana. No your thoughts aren't running amok, if you were wondering that she was talking about the other banana. The phallus and the phallic shaped fruit are talked about on every page.

I absolutely despise reading novels like these simply because I find it very voyeuristic. I hate looking or reading about people being in that mushy kind of love, or about their sexual intimacies. Fictional or otherwise. It makes me uncomfortable and visibly cringe. I cringed so hard, like no one in human history has ever cringed before. For that very reason, 30 pages in and I wanted to DNF this book. But, I am not one to step down from a mild challenge. After having read War and Peace with my bookclub members, we decided that we would do this for a laugh, and well to just reset ourselves. I don't know about being reset, but there were some laugh out loud moments in this book.

The thing is though, I really liked the writing. Penelope Bloom is a very talented writer. Often in erotic novels, the writing is rife with grammatical errors, horrendous sentence structures, repetitive hyperbole, and more. But Penelope manages to write excellently. But do not go in expecting more. It's a potassium filled smut book, not Socrates.

Rating: 3/5

Note to self: All good-looking, rich men are a little broken on the inside.

It was underwhelming

I read this book because of all the great reviews I read about it. The premise was very interesting...a reporter goes undercover as a intern to get dirt on the owner off the company. She accidentally eats his banana in the breakroom that clearly had his on it, but doesn't realize it. He finds her eating it and is so mad that he offers her the intern position.

The author and some of the reviewers hinted that this book was a laugh out loud comedy. I got to about 20-30% when I realized I had not even cracked a smile. The dialogue between the two main characters didn't come off to me as being witty, but felt abrupt and uncomfortable. The storyline was boring and I found myself skimming through the rest out the book including all the sex parts and I usually like to read those!

I just couldn't get into this book and feel a little bad because of all the wonderful reviews from others, but I guess I have just recently read a number of awesome books. If I hadn't read those really good books prior to this I may have given this book a better rating. But our experiences colors our perspective no matter how hard we try to be impartial. I won't count our this author just yet and plan on reading more of her works because it may just be fluke that I didn't like this book and may love another book of hers.

Re-read (Jun '24):

"They say you know a guy is the one when he gives you the last bite of his favorite meal."

Trama sencilla y predecible, pero divertida. Lleno de clichés. Seguro leeré el siguiente...
