It’s all fun and games . . . Until it’s not . . .

Felicia Ellway has always been the type of woman to stir up drama. So when her friend Kit dares Felicia to tell her family she’s engaged, she doesn’t flinch. But when her family books the next flight to see her, she’s scrambling for a plan.

To continue her lie, Felicia convinces her best friend Marshall Jackson to act as her fiancé for the weekend. Marshall would do anything for Felicia—even buy her a real diamond.

When Marshall sees Felicia’s walls start to crumble as they spend the weekend together as a couple, he enlists the help of Felicia’s little brother to win her heart for real. Will Marshall find the courage to tell Felicia how he truly feels or will he let Felicia’s facade continue?

Wow, a Beautiful Story (Tears Optional) . . .

Felicia Ellway has been ignoring her mother’s calls all day. She will eventually use “work” as an excuse, but it’s really just that she is tired of being told how happy her newly married cousin is, hoping to nudge Felicia into getting married too. But when her friend and roommate Kit, the town’s landscape architect, rushes into their apartment to beg her to call her mother – since mom has called Kit all day to ask why Felicia won’t pick up the phone – it’s time for an intervention. Kit had told Felicia’s mom that Felicia has some big news she has been keeping secret to build suspense. She was implying that Felicia is engaged. But it sort of backfires and the family is on the next flight out of Canada to visit her in person. Now Felicia needs a quick plan to convince them.

Felicia convinces her best friend Marshall Jackson, who works at the bakery, to act as her fiancé for the weekend. Then she will pretend they broke up by the time of the next visit. Marshall, who has loved Felicia since they met, would do anything to help her. So he agrees. But spending the weekend together working on the festival makes the feelings real. Will Marshall tell her how real it has always been for him? Will Felicia feel awkward and back away from a real relationship? Or has she had a chance to realize that those feelings are real for her too?

This was a cute, clean romance read / listen. I really enjoyed the overall storyline, it flowed smoothly and was easy to follow. Some of it was a bit sudden but overall, I thought this was a well written best friends romance. Sweet with no steam. Our main characters are Marshall and Felicia and the story is told from Felicia's point of view. I liked that their friendship was firmly in place, and they already had a routine. I thought there was a lot of extra descriptions or characters that didn't necessarily serve a purpose. Narration was good but I think could have been better with dual narration. There were times that the vocals seemed stilted but overall, not bad. I think this was a cute and sweet listen - good but not great. There were areas that more humor or conversational dynamics could have added more punch. I liked the small town feel and the festival vibe for this season. I'm looking forward to the other seasonal books in this series.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

Good! Felicia lives in a small Canadian town that hosts an annual fall festival weekend. A bit of serendipity enters the picture when her mother telephones with the incessant inquiry as to when she will marry. Felicia replies she's already engaged.

So, begins the fake engagement with her best friend of six years Marshall. The family decides to visit her and this new fiancé over the fall festival weekend. What could go wrong? This book has good writing and a clean romantic storyline.

🌷Book Quotes:

"It’s like being single at my age is a sin in her mind.”

"I both love and hate how news travels so fast in small towns."

"His laid back attitude complements my craziness perfectly."

Felicia Ellway's mother has been calling her all day, but she has no desire to listen to her mother tell her how happy her married cousin is. Her roommate, Kit, suggests that she fake an engagement, just to get her mom off her back. Felicia's best friend since forever is Marshall Jackson. He works at the bakery and has been in love with Felicia since they met, making him the prime candidate as Felicia's fiance. They do their job so convincingly that it only takes a short while before they both understand that it's not fake, it's forever.
Sally Barron does a wonderful job with the narration. Her voice is well-modulated and lively, and she sounds as if she's having a good time as she reads.

🍁A cute fall read🍁

Our MCs have been best friends for the past 6 years. To get her mom off her back, our FMC decides to lie to her mom and tell her she's engaged. That quickly backfires when her mom, along with her dad and brother, decide to make an impromptu trip to visit and celebrate the engagement. Now, our 2 MCs must act like a real couple when her family is in town. While faking their engagement, there's no denying there is more than just a friendship between these two.

Set in a small town, this is a cute, clean, cozy fall romance. It's under 200 pages, so it's a quick read.

- small town
- friends to lovers
- fake engagement
- clean, no steam
- fall vibes

Felicia’s roommate Kit goads her into telling her mom she’s engaged to her best friend Marshall. If I knew a hot sweet baker like that who brought me treats, knew what I liked, and would do anything to help me out, I’d think about marrying him too. Felicia’s family is over the top funny and pushy, but I could tell they love her and want her to be happy. Frenchie with her attitude and obsession with pastries and squirrels was a riot. Willow Ridge sounds like a wonderful place to live especially during their fall festival.

4-stars for Faking My Fall Crush

This is a quick, cute, fun novella length read. Two great friends afraid to tell the other how they really feel after six long years of friendship. That is until they are forced into a fake engagement that leads real words of how each of them actually feel. If your looking for a sweet, quick, clean read with no steam, I would recommend Faking My Fall Crush!

This was a first for me from this author, but it definitely won’t be the last! I really liked the way she writes, and the story was woven together so wonderfully that the pages just flew by. A fake relationship with her best friend to get her mother off her back leads to a funny and sweet story with delightful characters.

It’s all a little to simple and cliché. Felicia is a little to clean cut in my opinion and miss a good dose of humour.

Felicia needs a fiancé before her parent come to visit her. Enrolling her best friend Marshall may prove better than she thought when real feelings start to bloom in her heart and Marshal finally show her his true heart. The audiobook narrated by Sally Barron is a good one.

This a cute short story. Wish there was more focus on Felicia and Marshall’s 6 year friendship but other than that it was really good.
