在《政治学说史》一书中，萨拜因不仅对政治学说从理论上做了探讨，而且从历史的角度对古希腊以来政治学说的形成、演变和发展做了系统的阐述。作者认为，各个不同时代的政治思想家的思想，不管是拥护当时的政治制度还是相反，都有其思想渊源，并且是和当时的社会政治背景分不开的，由此也就可以看出每个政治思想家在政治学说史上的作用和地位。下卷主要包括从马基雅维利政治思想到近现代法西斯主义和民族主义政治理论的发展流变。

George H. Sabine (1880-1961) was a philosopher, best known for his A History of Political Theory (1937). He taught for many years at Cornell University, where he also served as dean of the Graduate School and vice-president of the University.

纵轴从马基雅维利一路细数到法西斯主义，横轴则涵盖了政治、哲学、历史和宗教诸领域。拜此书所赐，我那些原本零散而模糊的认知断章终于能拼出一幅相对完整而清晰的图景了。
