Jimmie Mayfield is a mullet-headed manchild, a 30-year old man going on 18. He hasn't found his groove in life; not in his career, not in love, not in anything. Jimmie believes that he is destined for greatness, but has no idea what that means or how he is going to get there.
Living with his mother in a dilapidated trailer at the Pleasant Meadows trailer park in the coastal town of Englewood, Florida, Jimmie's life is a series of missteps. With his loyal but misfit friends at his side, Jimmie tries to figure it all out. But what will he do when a stroke of luck changes everything for him?
Catcher in the Rye meets A Confederacy of Dunces meets High Fidelity. This lighthearted tale will make you laugh at parts, cry at others, but more often than not have you say 'WTF Jimmie?' For anyone that has ever sat and contemplated their life, you'll soon find that there is a little bit of Jimmie Mayfield in all of us.
A very entertaining read. I loved the quirky characters and could not help but root for Jimmie through all of his escapades. I can’t wait to read the next one.
Let me begin by saying that I'm used to reading horror, thriller, some science fiction. My usual genres have a clear villain/hero (some sort of tension). This was a step outside from my usual reading. It's a comedy about a guy who can't hold a job, and pretty much about him and his buddies hanging out until he does find a job. Zero tension like I'm used to. That didn't stop me from reading every page. I suppose some scenes were comical, but I'm not sure if I'd classify it as a full fledge comedy. Imagine reading Joe Dirt, but the main character isn't as likeable and there's no obvious goal (unless the goal was for the thirty-year-old kid to get a job). It was still entertaining. There was one part of the book that made me cringe and I almost put it down. I detest politics in my reading. There were political lines drawn in this book, but I'm honestly not sure which way the author sways. A certain character clearly spoke against one side of the aisle, and then other characters spoke against the other side. I try to avoid all of that on social media, internet, news, etc... so I really don't enjoy coming across it in my fiction. Also, let me note, that the 'bleeding heart liberal' (another character's words, not mine) was basically a loser not really willing to work and trying to live off his mom for rent and his buddies for rides and beer. That did not get lost upon me.
How can 1 guy have such lousy luck..Jimmy lives In a run down trailer park with his mom ..... he has several good buddies that enjoy razzing him about his inability to hold a job... Some crazy things happen to Jimmie... Give him a read... ..
I had such high hopes for this book based on the synopsis. I did not make it past the first chapters The crudity and swearing, took away any conceivable charm in the story. I would not want my mother or my children to read this book. What a disappointment!
Jimmie Mayfield has the habit of waking up with a protocol that makes him happy : frosted flakes, diet coke and a cigarette. "That's life ! " he thinks happily.
Jimmie Mayfield lives with his mother in the latter's trailer. Without a goal in life and without a job, he survives without really asking any questions until one day a series of events will change his life...

I really enjoyed reading this original and realistic novel which tells the story of a citizen faced with his recurring laziness.
I didn't get bored for a single second reading of this fascinating story !
The character of Jimmie Mayfield is endearing, the story with his friends is sympathetic and the unforeseen events are captivating.
I loved this beautiful novel : a great surprise and a Must Read 🧡
