As a beta in Wereduin society, Fern has no choice but to be mated when he comes of age. The ideal beta wereduin was subservient to their alpha, bears young, and knows their place in society. Fern isn't like that. Rather than become an extension of his alpha, Fern wants to play in his band, hang out with his friends, and stay himself. Now of age, Fern is to be placed in the Offering—an annual ceremony where alphas hunt and claim their beta mates. And whose attention does Fern attract? None other than Donovan Blackfang, a Highborne alpha who will stop at nothing but to claim Fern’s heart, body, and soul.
Rosary is an author of erotica ranging from sweet and fluffy, to dark and taboo. She aims to foster a sex-positive experience for readers to indulge their fantasies in a fun and safe space. Sometimes she uses her writing to journey into the often hidden and taboo depths of human sexuality, and hopes readers will take away from her stories, not an acceptance of violence and sexual abuse, but rather a way to embrace their inner desires often shamed by society.
I think this duet could have easily been a 4-star read for me. This was a dark omegaverse; it had non-con, some humiliation, forced breeding, and more that would have made it an enjoyable dark read.
The world-building was messy and somethings were repetitive, but since it's supposed to be more on the erotica side I could overlook that.
HOWEVER, I discovered that there's an orgy scene in book two. For how possessive and forceful Don is in this book (mind you, he had his sights set on Fern for a long time and is willing to kill people, even his friends, just to keep them away), the fact that he's okay with sharing (with penetration) was baffling to me. Even if it's not by other Alphas and he wants to punish Fern, it didn't make sense and felt out of character. This totally killed any enjoyment I had. I can't finish this book knowing what's to come.
The story starts with a humiliating Hunt, where alpha’s jump, bite, and rape beta’s into submission as mate or slave. Fern just turned eighteen and finds himself in the middle of Round One in The Offering: the Hunt. He will not be claimed, that’s his goal. All those stupid Alpha’s, even the strong, big black-furred one with laser blue eyes. No, not for him, he doesn’t want to be claimed or submit he just wants to finish his study, play music and be with his zombie and vampire friends. Donovan has set his eyes on Fern and he always gets what he wants. Not long after Fern gets his first of three claiming bites from Don. Everything in Fern screams resistance and every time he finds himself under the strong domination of Don. Don is protective and never lets Fern out of sight. No one will ever hurt him, but him. We can follow them fighting, one for dominating his mate and the other against the pull to submit and be owned. It’s a hard fight.
A dark, hurtful, gore, gritty story, full of abuse, and taboo. With alphas and betas werewolves, zombies, vampires, and other creatures. The feelings are all over the place and strongly palpable. It has a lot of noncon and dubcon sexuality, so be aware of it. The heat rating is sky-high. The author created a stunning paranormal urban world. An extended glossary at the end of the book brings clearance about the realm we’re in at the moment. Absolutely intense and intriguing narrative, It took my breath away at times, can’t wait for #2
I never thought this book will be THIS AMAZING. OMG. I'm in love! One of my favorite this year, it was everything.
The world building is so awesome! The alpha/beta part was really interesting, every other shifter book is alpha/omega pairing but not in this one. The betas are who's getting pregnant, and ahh the whole mating scheme is SO GOOD!
Wolves, vampires, zombies... all the awesome things. Loved everyone in this world.
The book was from Fern's POV and I loved it. It held my interest from the very start, I really couldn't put it down. Don was a real alpha, and it was so great to see him from Fern's view. All the action and love, and romance and erotica and ahhhh, so, so good.
Don is a strong alpha and I just loved those scenes when he got in full protection mode and did everything to protect his beta, his love, his Fern♥
As I said, the world building was the best in this story, it is so well written and so many things are there. It's a really unique story, not your everyday shifter romance at all. I love finding new authors and when it turns out this awesome I just love it more!
Oh, I can't recommend it enough. Everyone needs to read this book. The best ever!
I was so, so sad when it ended at 90%, I just wanted to read more. I need more Fern and Don in my life and I miss the others too. This series has so many potential and I can't wait to read more from it.
Man why do I always do this to myself?! What even was this.😭 These ppl were either fucking or randomly fighting. Not gonna say I had no idea what was going on throughout the book because everything's so repetitive. I was initially intrigued abt a beta- alpha relationship in a world where witches, zombies, werewolves and humans all live together. Instead, I got a whole lot of triggers and no warnings.
Fern has come of age and according to Wereduin society it's time for him to join the Offering and an Alpha mate to choose him. Fern just wants to continue on with his life as it is, but the law is the law and he has no choice.
Even though Fern doesn't want a mate and see's Donovan as an overbearing and bullying Alpha who takes him whenever the mood strikes his strong will is slowly wearing down much to his own anger.
I very much enjoyed this book. Fern is strongheaded, snarky, and isn't afraid to stand up to his potential Alpha. Until the third Offering he's determined to fight against the whole process and Don. Donovan is hard-headed, on a rare occasion when he feels Fern is putting himself in danger he will be physically abusive to get his point across. I got the feeling there is more to Donovan than we're seeing in this book. Hopefully I'll see those hidden parts in the next book.
I loved Fern's zombie and vampire friends. Their band as well though I wish there was more of the band playing (or even just practicing) in the book.
The book is written only in Fern's POV. Despite the non-con/dub-con in the book it's written in almost a lighthearted manner after the first Offering. It's not what I would consider a dark romance in the slightest. (Though I do consider the world the book takes place in on the dark side.) The book doesn't end on a cliffhanger, but it's not the whole story in book one either. It continues into book two.

Side Note: Both books are available on Smashwords. The second book is also available on Amazon. (The first was banned from Amazon.)
Wow! What an original omegaverse story! I was very pleasantly surprised at the amount of detail that went into the worldbuilding, the different species and different customs. The mythology and customs were original, violent and more than a little disturbing. The dynamics between Wereduin alphas and their betas had a darkly seductive quality, which I loved (so hot!), and I found myself rooting both for Fern, so earnest in his quest for independence and equality, and Don, as he tries to do right (or his skewed version of it) by his chosen one and make him submit. Fern stays blind to Don’s more redeeming qualities for a long time, and he’s definitely not quick to fall into Stockholm syndrome, if at all. I was also very happy with the secondary characters, who are very well-written and intriguing in their own right. I’m kind of hoping Fern’s friends all get books of their own. I read this in one sitting and am in dire need of the second book. The Offering is told from Fern’s point of view, I hope to get more insight into Don in the following book.
The Offering was my first book by Rosary Deville and I can't wait to read more. This was a really good read, so much more than I expected, I was hooked by the characters from the first chapter and couldn't put the book down.
It isn't often that I read paranormal romance but this book makes me think I'm missing out. I loved the array of characters, wereduins, zombies, vampires, humans, trolls, etc, and the quirky extras the author gave them. The worldbuilding and customs were fabulous and made me want more.
My only disappointment was that it finished. Be warned there is a mini cliffhanger with a happy for now ending. This had me immediately hunting for a release date for book 2.
The Offering takes place in a fictional world of werewolves, called wereduin.
The world building is refreshing, unique and skillfully put together. The characters are real and well fleshed out and the writing style is delicious dark and gory.
Fern and Don are opposites in every way. The chemistry between them was intense and palpable.
If you like a dark, gritty, gripping and unconventional paranormal romance, this is definitely for you.
This includes some dub con, non con and other graphic content so read the triggers warnings before heading into this one.
Thank you for the ARC read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review. Fern is not ready for the hunt, to be tied down to an alpha, all he wants is to play in his band and finish school with his friends. Once caught a war brews inside but will Fern go down easy as lines blur of pain and pleasure, domination verses submission. Don will have to fight for every inch. Just loved Fern's friends Shamar the zombie, Lucian the vampire and the human descendant Alphonse. Hopeful to hear more from these amazing and creative world. A brilliantly written book that has humorous and steamy goodness crushing the lines of a darker side to of bonding in this supernatural world. Poor Don the sometimes brute I do feel sorry for as he deals with the bratty side of Fern. Ugh I'm internally screaming at left hanging.
An erotic paranormal romance with some good world building. It introduces so much! Werewolves,Zombies,Vampires and more. It goes in depth on werewolves society and mating rituals in an approachable way. Very much enjoyed and looking forward to more from this world and the author.
I'm not gonna rate this because I didn't read enough to do that but I'm still gonna take notes.
I LOVE dark books and I was down and ready for this. But this book just made no sense. The world-building was rough, to say the least, and not knowing Fern's age (old enough to mate but not to drive!?) left me a little unsettled. The smut was very hot, I'll say that but it wasn't enough to keep me.
I love this story! Fern is my favorite kind of submissive in shifter tales. Reluctant and antagonistic! Don likewise is my favorite dominant. Fierce and strict! Can't wait for book 2
Warning this is a very dark story. That said this book, which is the first of two that make up this series, is an incredible read that looks at how mating happens in this imaginary future society. The main focus is the mating between Fern and Donovan who are werewolves, but there are all types of other characters like zombies and vampires. Alpha Donovan does force Beta Fern to submit which is sometimes rough to read, but when I think of werewolves I don’t usually think about fluffy little poodles. These are raw, basic and animalistic werewolves who are following the rules set by their society where Alphas are in charge. I do like that it’s not sexist because women can be Alphas like Fern’s mother is. This is a terrifically well written book in my opinion. Yes it’s not to everyone’s tastes and you should definitely read the trigger warnings. It’s a fantasy and to me that’s the main thing. The author is in no way advocating that anyone go out and do this. If you are in the mood to read a very different type of werewolf story, that is maybe a little more primal than most, then you will probably enjoy this book and the sequel.
I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down. Fern and Don make such an interesting couple and the universe the author created is fascinating as well.
This was different than most shifter/mpreg I’ve read. For one there are no omegas mentioned. It’s the betas that that get pregnant and must submit to the alpha. What lured me in was the fact that the betas are hunted and claimed by the alphas. I liked that it wasn’t live at first sight or fated mates, but Fern (the beta) hated Don. Fern did not want to be claimed and hated and fights Don on everything. At some times I got confused on how and where the characters were. This ends in a cliff hanger, which really bugged me, there was no warning and the book just ended with no warning and in a horrible spot. Overall I enjoyed it and am looking forward to follow Fern and Don.
This is a paranormal romance with a lot of dudcon/noncon, Fern is a Beta in a Wereduin society he is to be mate when he comes of age, he is still in high school and he’s not ready for the hunt and don’t want to be tied down to an alpha, all he wants is to play in his band and finish school with his friends. Now that he is place in The Offering he would do everything to not get caught, Fern is in constant war now that he is mated to Don, he will not go down easy he trying to resist the compulsion he feels for his Alpha, the hates Don but lines blur between pain and pleasure, domination verses submission. Don choose Fern a long time ago and would do everything to make Fern submit to him. I like Fern's friends Shamar the zombie, Lucian the vampire and the human descendant of Van Helsing Alphonse. This is a amazing world and a well written book that has super steamy scenes and a much darker side in a super natural world. This end in a kind of cliffhanger, I’m looking forward to know what would happen to Don and his bratty mate Fern.
I received and ARC in exchange of an honest review.
Loved this story. The world building of the Wereduin society and the other fantastical races in this story are well thought out. The sex is hot, hot, hot! The non-con and dub-con elements fit well into this werewolf culture as it might in real wolf society. I can't wait for book 2 in this series.
This was a fun escape into paranormal dubcon/noncon romance. I really enjoyed the beginning, primal play with catch and capture is a guilty pleasure! I liked Fern, I was rooting for him, love the name by the way. I hope he never completely goes over to the submissive side, the power struggles between Donovan and him were too much fun to give up. Donovan, if you were living in that world, he would be the one you’d want for your alpha. At times I found him too callous, it’s a harsh universe that’s created. I could have done without the backhanding, spankings are hotter and we got one of those. If your’e looking for a realistic look at a dom/sub relationship, this is not where you’ll find it and that’s ok. This is all fantasy in a very harsh world that weeds out the weak so the strongest survive. If you enjoy noncon and an alpha that doesn’t give an inch, you’ll enjoy it!
This was unique, very original! Fern just turned eighteen. He’s now in the middle of The Offering/Hunt, round one. He’s not ready to be claimed, no does he want to submit. Donovan wants Fern. He always gets what he wants. He gives Fern three claiming bites. This was a super steamy story full of abuse and noncon/dubcon. The author did a great job with world building! I’m voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
this was wow... it was darker then i thought.. it was action packed and interesting.. it was different then the normal.. it was amazing and fun.. i liked it a lot
So. MM shifter reads is a guilty pleasure of mine. Then The Offering was recommended to me. I read the blurb, I read the warnings, and I still bought it. Maybe I shouldn’t have.
Anyway. The story takes place in a universe where completely different rules and morals than our own apply. It’s truly the world of the strong. The weak are used, enslaved, or even outright killed. It’s also a world where, among the wolves, you’re either born to be a dominant or a submissive. Pretty crappy odds for the submissives in other words.
Now, I tried to keep an open mind as I read. I tried to stop myself from expecting Fern’s alpha to behave like a decent person. But of course I failed. I’m not one for dark reads. I want consent, mutual respect, and happy endings, and this is just not that kind of story
And yet, I was intrigued.
Most of the time, however, I was just outraged and downright pissed at Don on Fern’s behalf.
It’s a very well-written story, despite the content not being my cup of tea. And I felt for Fern so hard. How he tried to keep himself from being diminished and overtaken by his beta instincts. How he fought to keep his own will and personality and not just mindlessly submit to his alpha. And I devoured the story, needing it to go Fern’s way. And when it ended, I immediately bought the second book. So I was entranced. Disgusted and enraged yes, but completely hooked.
I was disappointed, however, that I didn’t get to see more of the society outside of the weird and violent wolf / Werduin customs. Fern’s best friend is a zombie. And they both play in a band whose other members consist of a vampire and a human. And again, zombies! So bloody awesome! I would have liked way more clashes and interactions with them. As it were, almost all the focus was on how Don tried to crush Fern’s free will by using his dick.
The Offering is violent, bloody, and gory. There’s humiliation, and subjugation, and way more cum than should be legal. But within it’s genre, it’s a 4-star at the least.
Let's start with a bit of a summary; Fern has come of age and is now going to partake in the age old tradition of being hunted by an Alpha and getting mated. Not that he wants to be mated at this time, nope Fern is his own man and wants to finish school and play with his band. He has hopes and dreams and he feels those will be crushed by an Alpha. Determined to fight this mating with everything he has, first with the hunting and then after when he has been claimed, he fights until Don forces him to submit in the moment. Submission never lasts long, but Fern is starting to fight himself, maybe Don does have his best interest at heart? Maybe being with Don isn't as bad as Fern is trying to convince himself it is.
OK, does anyone remember Monster High, that's really what this world reminded me of. Vampires, werewolves, zombies, trolls, the only difference is they didn't seem to co-exist in harmony. I wasn't really taken with the MCs, I wanted more from them; Fern was a brat the whole time, and Don was of course the one to tame him. We got loads of naughty bits, of course some drama, a bit of danger and a tad bit of violence. I give this 3 stars.
This had potential, but the dialogue was terrible and the writing was all over the place. I felt like I was bouncing around the mind of someone with ADHD (hell, maybe I was). I contemplated DNFing so many times, but I somehow made it through. Giving it the extra half star because I did want to find out what happened, but it was almost torturous to get there. Doubt I'd be able to get through book 2 though.
"Fern has no choice but to be mated when he comes of age." "The ideal beta wereduin was subservient to their alpha, bears young, and knows their place in society." "Now of age, Fern is to be placed in the Offering—an annual ceremony where alphas hunt and claim their beta mates."
So....we're now rebranding rape and sexual enslavement and hunting down someone and forcing them to be your life mate, like it or not, as 'taboo' and 'dark erotica' to excuse it.
This one is definitely a dark, wild ride! I found myself questioning many times, ‘do I like this?!’ And the answer? Yes. Yes I did like it. A lot goes on in this book and it definitely pushes the parameters of right and wrong, and just how far one can be pushed past their limits! This book is FILLED with dub-con, and it very much toes the line of: is this dub-con, or is this rape?? That being said, this book very much takes place in a fictional world, filled with supernatural beings; you HAVE to keep in mind that their customs and views of one another within the power rankings are very much different than those of a normal, human society.
We meet Fern as he comes of age to be entered into The Offering. This is very much an age gap story, so remember that, but again, rules are different in the Wereduin society! Fern is a beta (very similar to omega in omegaverse), and he finds himself in somewhat of a predicament when he is claimed during The Offering. Fern does not want to embrace his beta desire to submit to an alpha and he fights Don at every turn. Don is a strong alpha, and he knows what he wants and will do whatever he has to, to get it.
The world that Rosary created is quite unique and I thoroughly enjoyed it! There’s a lot of different supernatural beings we meet, but I absolutely adored Fern’s friend group that consists of him, a zombie, a human and a vampire!
This book is SMUTTY. Holy hell is there a LOT of sex, a LOT of knots, and a lot of Fern fighting his submission to his alpha!! The action is never ending, the tension is THICK, and there is no lack of emotion! Fern is a brat and he gives Don everything he’s got; Don is a stubborn alpha, but he does a lot of what he does to protect Fern. I really, really enjoyed this book and honestly could not put it down!
Nailed the Dubcon but could have truly rocked the story with a little plot work. My review relates to both books, the entire story, together.
Dark, omegaverse book with an OTT Alpha and his strong-willed Beta. Fern lives in a world where Beta's are mated off to an Alpha during the yearly Offering ceremony. Nature then kicks in as Betas submit to these Alphas, spending the rest of their lives as obedient mates who will eventually carry Pups. Over the next month, the Alpha and Beta live together and must pass through 2 more offerings/challenges before their mating will (hopefully) be blessed by the Goddess. There's a lot of violence and death along the way.
Fern was born to a higher-ranking Alpha (woman) and Beta (man), so thankfully not destined to be a Slave Beta. This doesn't mean he's happy about the situation. While he may be a Beta, he inherited his Alpha mother's headstrong personality. He's in high school and a EMO metal bank with his 3 best friends (a vampire, a human, and a zombie). Spending his life without freewill or control over his body and sex/mating, always at the mercy of the Alpha prowess, isn't a dream scenario for him.
Donovan is a high-ranking Alpha who trained under Fern's Alpha mother. He's been attracted to Fern for years, following him in preparation for Fern to come-of-age and participate in The Offering. He is the first Alpha to claim Fern and the story takes us to their time together as Donovan does everything in his Alpha power to make Fern submit, to give into the his natural Beta instincts.
That's the setup. While I did find the dubcon to be mind-blowing, little bits of the plot kept teasing that a deeper story arc was coming. Sadly, I was left a bit unfulfilled. Don repeatedly tells Fern that he isn't going to block him from his life or what he wants to do. But they never have a conversation. Rosary teasing at Don being an amazing Alpha and the perfect mate for Fern, but then she seems to forget and drop the arc. Or there are moments where there seems to be a breakthrough, but then Don reverts to being tight-lipped and controlling. Give Fern a bit of info FFS!!
So much happens to Fern, some of it because of his choices and some because of Don's. Rosary seemed to be setting us up for a story ending where they have that mated pair breakthrough. Finding a connection/deep love that strengthens them both. Honestly, I kinda wanted something to come from the Book 2 scene with Don's family. After everything with that Lord, and all the other trauma, how did Fern not have a mental breakdown? Maybe he should have. Make Don go through a bit of emotional turmoil and really face what he's done to the Beta he's supposedly loved for years. While I don't expect any kind of universe revolt and massive reflection of Alpha/Beta practices, a smaller change with Don and Fern would have left me so fulfilled at the end.
I do hope we see more with Fern's friends. Shamar needs a story, and there's something going on with Alphonse and Lucian.

I won this book a few months ago, got it from the author. It is not for everyone to read, definitely 18+. And it's a CLIFFHANGER.
I loved the book. I really did, and it was getting better with every page. Engaging world building, supercool supporting characters, plot twists. All there to be enjoyed from the first page to the last. It is paranormal in its finest. Various creatures from the paranormal world enjoying an existence in Rosary's world. Wereduins (werewolves), zombies, vampires, humans that are descendants of Van Helsing and humans or human parts that get used as food for the supernaturals. Here's the reasons why I had to give only four stars. The extensive trigger warning in the book needs to be where customers read it before buying the book. Rape on page isn't an easy read, even for people who never in their lives had to fear another person forcing themselves on someone. The other thing that made me roll my eyes a lot was the whining of the young main character. While every other character had a unique way to deal with their lot, Fern, the young wereduin is not happy at all with his future life. He's born a beta and has to go through a rite of passage. The offering will pare him with an Alpha who he will have to submit to. So he plans to run. And of course he has no chance to escape, whatever he tries. Yes, he is young and inexperienced, but he is also one of those who don't heed warnings, who won't listen to his elders to learn from them and who has to make his life hard before he can let go and reap the spoils. I guess there is a reason for generation gaps. The third and final reason is of course the damn cliffhanger. Not a fan of it at all. Never was, never will be. So yeah, could have been a five star read. Maybe the next book.
