Started off so well then went into the toilet at light speed.

The minimal amount of monster battles possible, still no explanation of the runes or the books found ten or more books ago, no translation of the book stolen from Carth. This story then proceeds to become the happiest of romance novels were get this, our hero tears up at his friends wedding and over his family life. Gryff has certainly not become very manly for someone who has seen so much death and destruction. This is very uncharacteristic of someone who has lived through things like that . Gryff went from manly to mildly male in this book. If I wanted to read a romance novel instead of a fantasy I would have found plenty of female authors better than this guy if that was what I wanted to read. Pathetic purely pathetic how this story went from really good to trash in only a few books.

How far this has fallen

At this point in the story, nearly 20 books in, you'd expect depth in the characters and plot. Something to question about their actions or their motivation. Maybe a few loose ends left unanswered within the story that keep you interested. Anything really that has the potential to be surprising and make you sit back and say "Wow" and then want to keep reading. Unfortunately, that has long since not been the case.

Everything in the entire series has been to Gryff 's favor. He has literally never know defeat. But not because he trains or works to improve himself or out thinks his foe. It just kinda happens. In the "big" battle halfway through the book, he very nearly one-shots every monster by himself, out of an army I was supposed to believe was intimidating. Gryff himself was spouting off about how dangerous and imposing the monster army looked, then proceeds to rip through them like papier-mâché. And then I'm supposed to believe he's overdrawn his mana when he has clearly fought longer and harder battles than this in the previous books? At this point, all the negatives that happen within the story seem convenient to the plot and everything else is just filler to get to the next uh-oh that will see Gryff walking away without a scratch or scar to show for his trials.

Along with massive plot issues that I have, there's no apparent depth to any of the characters. I can't figure out why exactly so many characters are falling head-over-heels to be around Gryff. The man certainly deserves respect and acknowledgement for his achievements from the characters in the book, especially when he doesn't seem to care for anyone other than his women. He's like some of the people I know who are all happy to see you when you're standing in front of them, but couldn't spare you a second thought otherwise. Out of sight, out of mind. But people are still falling over themselves to be around him.

I was hoping for a point of contention between Gryff and his aunt, something to disturb Gryff's fairy tail life, but they made up like an old married couple. And then he proceeded to absolutely clap Carth in battle, no issues. The only moment of potential in the entire book was when he passed out following his battle with Carth (I say his battle cause the others didn't really do much). Maybe all his success had caught up to him and holding that many Archons in his head was finally taking its toll. Nope! He gets back the the infirmary, starts bantering with whoever's there, and doesn't immediately go to sleep cause he just wasn't tired enough.

This was the final nail in the coffin for me. The whole story felt so inauthentic I skipped to the end. There wasn't any worth in reading anymore when the action was a chore. Which is especially unfortunate, since the first few books we're actually pretty good, and the magic system was unique and interesting. And there's no potential in the story anymore either.

Long story short (probably should've said this earlier) the story is made of forgettable characters, an extremely dull plot, and nowhere foreseeable to go to perk my interest.

ugh

My frustrations continue to grow. I wont write these long reviews. I mean like i said in my previous reviews. I truly love this story but Gryff and his friends are just disappointing me. His continued denial, the stupidity of Gryff and his friends constant bickering and not backing his plays. Sometimes Gryff doesn’t use his head and the answers are so simple and plain as day and sometimes it takes his friends to come up with an answer or his friends will argue with him. This issues with Jace was nice yet frustrating. The way his friends “handled” him during that situation was annoying to me. I was like shut your mouth, this is his story and his past, let him find out about his lineage and keep your mouth closed yet they had to constantly insert their noses and opinions into things and constantly interrupt things it was just annoying. Same with the mega monster fight. The herd that was so frightening all of a sudden its like stop babying us Gryff we got this. We have experience when those things killed most likely over a thousand mages from varle when it attacked the enclave but these 6 dudes including an inexperienced moose with untried and unknown magic was like bruh we got this lol stop coddling us. Also, id truly like to see Gryff utilise his stronger summons. I get he still uses his grade e monsters etc but he has so many other cool monsters… you’d think the mud man, belial, the crystal dragon or many of his other cool summons would have made an appearance. Also him taking his sweet time with carth is truly foolish. I mean im glad he captured the crystal dragon, again Xan is truly amazing. I wish the Archons got more page time. I wish he had more of a loving relationship with them. I mean the way the covers are drawn its like he has these relationships with them but in all honesty he treats them like trash. I wish it was different with the Archons. Truly i do

A filler milking the story for all its worth
What do I want in a fantasy harem? Some nice story progression and harem!

What do I get? Story? You get 50% baby talk, a 40% outstretched boring fight and some slice-of-life. Don't get me wrong i love some slice-of-life character progression, but this is just nagging and whineing. You get like a 1 page storyprogression of the MCs childhood and the rest is milking the story for all its worth with fillers.

Harem? You have to wait 7 (out of 10) hours until some babymaking. WTH! There is yet another wedding (I really liked the wedding book), but why put so much time in for his friend to end up in some vanilla evening for the MC.

I'm dissappointed. Summoner is the only series I still follow, due to the lackluster storytelling and mundane characters. Step it up!

Absolutely brilliant!

For a long time I've been reading this series in the hopes of learning more about Mistral, and Gryff's past. And for the past few books we've finally been getting answers.
And this book has plenty of them!

But along with answers, it's nice to have a book slow down the pace and just enjoy the simple things, and Gryff definitely needed the break.

But as with any great book, Eric Vall just has me wanting to read the next one even more!
Especially since I get the feeling were in the home stretch now...

Thank you for this series it is great!

I can't wait to read about his aunt will she take a step and try to visit the family?? Who knows but I can't wait to find out! What will she think when she meets the rest of the team? Will she realize she is not alone anymore in the fight?

To many unanswered questions! Love the series and look forward to the next book!

Excellent Series Continues

Through 19 books Eric Call has kept the story line clean, dialogue fresh and action on pace. Gruff and his friends are well developed characters battling the forces of the shadowscape. He finally captured Carth Brandon gets married, and learns a great deal from his Aunt. With two Archeraons left to capture and one to submit this series will continue to be a fascinating read! I strongly recommend this series!

Pleasure, Love & Pain

Griff is coming closer to finding all the secrets of who he is, but as he gets closer he has to fight more & more. He has a lot to fight for and those who rely on him. He has more babies being born and therefore more reasons to fight.

This was another fun installment in this series and there is still so much more to learn about the MC.

So good.

I really enjoyed reading this book, but I always look forward to this series. Gryff and the guys head out to capture Carth. They find more than they bargained for. However, happiness is around the corner. The story and characters are interesting and continue to grow. This book is definitely worth reading.

Awesome, as usual

While I enjoy every series that Eric Vall has written, this series quickly became my favorite. While I'll be sad to see it end, I still can't wait to see how it does. I'm anxiously waiting on book 20, even though this book just came out yesterday, lol.

Great addition to the series

Finally, some long awaited answers to questions. Not complaining, the author has done a wonderful job of developing the characters and plot while rolling out some answers but maintaining some secrecy and mystery. Wonderful series. Bring on Book 20.
